New Living Wage for Musicians Act put to US Congress | Rising Star Giveaway - Reward 15000 Starbits (Ends 11 March UTC)
A New Living Wage Act for Musicians put to US Congress, and the act introduced by Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and Congressman Jamaal Bowman would pay artists at least $0.01 per stream. The legislation was said to have been created in partnership with the United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) and local and national musicians directly affected by the lack of oversight in the music industry.
Additionally, Rashida Tlaib introduced the Living Wage for Musicians Act on her website, click to read it in full.
In the example given in the article, it is stated that Spotify pays an average of $0.003 per stream to the rights holders of music on its platform. In the example given in the article, it is stated that Spotify pays an average of $0.003 per stream to the rights holders of music on its platform. As outlined in the article, this means artists would need to make more than 800,000 streams per month to equal the earnings of a full-time, $15-per-hour job.
I can say that it surprises me that artists and musicians earn so little per stream. Although $0.003 seems sufficient when we consider very popular and world-renowned artists and musicians, when we consider local and less well-known artists and musicians, $0.003 is really too little. And the people who create the music we love should be earning more, so I think the New Living Wage for Musicians Act is pretty fair. In fact, I think artists and musicians should earn more per stream because streaming platforms earn billions of dollars. Additionally, if there were no artists and musicians, there would be no streaming platforms.
Enjoy the music and stay with Love

The act does seem interesting but I wonder if it is sustainable long term. I know they aren't earning a lot but there are a lot of things we don't know about.

@stamato
it's a start i would say. Artists should get a better share of the money earned by streaming companies
Congratulations @imfarhad your reward has been sent.

I think some new laws are needed in what is a pretty recent way to listen to music that the current laws don't apply or they aren't effective. There's many factors to consider and I don't have the knowledge to answer them. We have to consider how much the streaming service earns to know if the $0,01 price is too much, too little or fair. Because, if we make it too expensive, those services will close and no one makes any money that way. If $0,01 is too little, we might need to tweak that number up even more.
It is great that the musicians are being appreciated
