USE THORN AND MAGIC REFLECT EFFECTIVELY IN BROKEN ARMOR RULESET (Plus Giveaway #82)

Welcome back to my blog, @queen-silvia. The current theme for Battle Mage Secrets is Broken Arrows 🎯. This ruleset is an old one where all monsters who have ranged attack type (including those monsters who melee-ranged and magic-ranged attack) would not be able to be used in the battle. That means the battle will be consisted of melee 👊 and magic 🔮 monsters only. Let's discuss the Broken Arrow concept by discussing it's definition first :

Fundamental Concept of Broken Arrow

  Broken Arrows : Ranged attack Monsters may not be used in battles. Monsters with two types of attack may not be able to be used as well.  

Well, as we have mentioned earlier, In Broken Arrow Ruleset, only melee 👊 and magic 🔮 monsters are available to be used in the battle, so we have to think about how to overcome our opponent's attack. As we already know that the counter for melee and magic attacks are Thorn and Magic Reflect abilities respectively so we have to put monsters who have both abilities in the battlefield. Now the question is How to utilize both Thorn and Magic Reflect monsters effectively? Here is the answer :

1. Put monster who have amplify ability like Queen Mycelia, Dax Paragon, Venari, etc. That way, we can increase the Thorn or magic reflected damage which is returned back to the attacker.
2. Try to support tank monsters with tank healer to make him immortal. The most common used tank healer monster at Gold League is Goblin Psychic because not only being able to heal, but Lv.8 Goblin Psychic also has affliction to prevent the target to be healed (when the affliction is activated) and a silence ability to reduce all of the opponent's magic attack by -1.

Well, In this article we'll implement the theory of how to use Thorn and amplify ability effectively in a Gold League ranked battle. All of the battle aspects within the game like Mana, Rulesets, Team line up and battle strategies will be explained in the next subtopics. I hope you could enjoy them guys. Let's start the discussion with Rulesets and mana first.

Rulesets

There are 3 rulesets in this battle, Here they are :

Ferocity	Broken Arrows	Taking Sides
All Monsters have the fury ability	Ranged attack Monsters may not be used in battles	Neutral Monsters may not be used in battles.

Alright guys, although we have 3 rulesets in this battle but the other 2 rulesets is minor compared to the Broken Arrows. The first ruleset is Ferocity . Well, this ruleset has an impact to the game if the mana is very high (above 50) because in that battle, players tend to use monster with taunt ability and the fury ability can be activated (does double damage to the target who have taunt ability). However in low until mid mana battle, this ruleset has very less impact since taunt monsters are barely played in that condition.

The second ruleset is Taking Sides . It prevents both players to use monsters with neutral splinter so the best tips in this ruleset is to remember some meta cards for each splinter. Meta is the most used cards because the card has incredible 💯 ability that makes it outstanding 💪 among others, let's put it in an example. In case of water 💦 splinter, Axemaster 🔨 is the meta card because he can give total 6 damage (double 3 ranged damage) while he only costs 7 mana. That's pretty cool offensive card that makes him outperforming other water ranged attack, that's why Axemaster is the meta card for water 💦 splinter. We have to do the same observation regarding some other splinter and use meta cards in Taking Sides ruleset.

The last ruleset is Broken Arrows and as we have discussed in the previous section, the way to win this ruleset is utilizing monsters who have Thorn and magic reflect abilities. Putting monsters with amplify will make it better because it can increase the Thorn and Magic Reflect damage.

Mana and Splinters

The battle is consisted of 27 mana. I would say it's belong to "mid to low" mana because it's less than 30 mana. Since we have taking sides ruleset so Dr, Blight is not available to be used in the battle and we have to use meta cards from each splinter. Based on the picture above, almost all splinters are available except water splinter.

One thing that we have to remember is that because of the ruleset is Broken Arrow, we have to use monsters with Thorn and Magic reflect ability. Splinter who have both abilities combined with amplify is Earth 🍃, because it has Unicorn Mustang for Magic reflect, Queen Mycelia for amplify and Mylor Crowling for Thorn ability. It's like a good template to use when we have another "mid to low" mana battle with broken arrow ruleset and earth is available.

At only 27 mana battle, ferocity is almost pointless because it's very unlikely that players will use taunt monster. One possible line-up that we can assembly with 27 mana battle is using Mycelic Splipspawn and monsters with triage ability like Queen Mycelia but that line up is too defensive and has very low damage to the opponent. If the opponent has higher attack then that line-up will be easily being beaten up.

Summoner

Level 6 Mylor Crowling

First of all, let's talk about the summoner. In order to give Thorn ability to all friendly monsters then there's no other choice than Mylor Crowling. I have to say this summoner is one of my favorites because players generally very like to use melee 💪 monsters like Pelacor bandit, Deeplurker, Dragon Jumper, etc. He is pretty useful in low until high mana battle ⚔️ because at high mana battle, earth 🍃 still has many monsters who can hold or counter ranged 🎯 and magic 🔮 attack like Unicorn Mustang or Mycelic Infantry.

Tips 💡

Use Mylor Crowling to give Thorn ability to all friendly monsters.

First Monster

Level 6 Unicorn Mustang

The tank monster I used for the battle is Unicorn Mustang. This is one of my favorite earth 🍃 splinter because of his Void and Magic reflect ability to counter any magic damage from the opponent. I often combined this monster with Mylor to counter melee 👊 monster as well but we have to be aware towards ranged 🎯 attack because Mylor-Unicorn is weak against ranged damage as he has no shield ability to reduce ranged damage. In terms of attack, he has 4 melee 👊 damage which is pretty powerful to beat the opponent's tank monster.

Second Monster

Level 8 Venari Scout

The second monster is Venari Scout 🐭, I put him as the "striker" to the opponent's backline because he has opportunity ability to attack the opponent's monster who have the lowest Health Point. He is not suitable to be the second tank because he only has 5 health points ♥️ so I really depend on Unicorn Mustang 🐎 as the only tank monster. Venari Scout 🐭 costs 3 mana but his attack is already 2 melee damage at level 8 which makes him a good damage dealer to the opponent in low mana battle ⚔️.

Third Monster

Level 1 Epona

The next card is supporting monster, Epona. I used lv.1 because lv.2 was not available to be rented at the market and lv.3 is very expensive 💸. She costs 1 mana only but she could give all friendly monsters additional 1 health ♥️ point which makes her pretty cool at low mana battle (under 20 mana). Lv.2 of Epona has divine shield but I think that skill isn't really affecting the outcome of the game so I think lv.1 is enough for me for battle ⚔️ at Gold league. This monster can be a tribute if the opponent has opportunity monster as her HP is just 3 only at level 1.

Forth Monster

Level 3 Queen Mycelia

The next monster is my lovely card, Queen Mycelia. Whenever the battle has low to mid mana, I always use this card because of her amplify , triage and protect ability. The amplify will add the Thorn and Magic reflect damage given to the opponent. Protect ability will give friendly monsters additional +2 armor 🛡 and triage ability will restore damage of the monster whose their HP is the lowest in the team.

Fifth Monster

Level 8 Goblin Psychic

The fifth monster is Goblin Psychic. this monster is also very important and frequently used for earth splinter because he has some strong abilities, like silence , to reduce all of the opponent's magic damage by -1. Affliction to prevent the target from being healed, either from triage, tank heal or self heal. Tank heal , to keep the tank monster alive. Unfortunately if the opponent is using affliction then the tank heal would be a waste until it get cleansed.

Sixth Monster

Level 8 Khmerr Princess

The last monster is Khmer Princess. At low mana battle, this monster is quite useful as she has tank heal to restore the tank monster Health Point in each round. However, it's a bit risky to use this card at Gold league because there are many monsters who have affliction ability like Goblin Psychic, Dr. Blight, Captain Ghost, Dax Paragon, etc. Cripple is also countering tank heal ability very well as the maximum health of the target will be reduced. If the opponent doesn't put monster who have affliction or cripple ability, this card is pretty strong as a support monster.

Alright, all the line up has been explained, Now let's move to the battlefield and see how to use Magic reflect and Thorn abilities effectively.

Here is the battle looks like in the first round :

Well, The opponent used total magic 🔮 attack with Hill Giant as a tank monster. He put Khmer Princess as a tank healer in the backline to restore the health point ♥️ of Hill Giant in each round but I have Goblin Psychic with affliction ability so when it's being activated, the Khmer Princess would never restore the tank monster's Health Point anymore. One thing which come to my mind when I first see this line up is at the end of battle, Kron will activate his last stand ability and that would be an interesting round to see. Which team would win the match, the "total attack" team or the "defensive & counter" team.

Void, Magic Reflect, Amplify, Silence & Tank heal are stronger than Last Stand & Magic +1

This is how the battle looks like in the last round before Last Stand Kron being killed. Although he has 17 health points once he activated his last stand ability, he only could restore 5 health Point in each round, while he got 4 melee damage from Unicorn Mustang 🐎, 4 melee damage from amplified magic reflect, 2 melee damage from Venari Scout 🐭, 1 magic damage from Queen Mycelia 👑, 2 magic damage from Goblin Psychic 🐷, and 1 magic damage from Khmer Princess. The total is 14 damage, wow, very huge damage to finish Kron in the next round. If we see at the battle through battle link below, we can see The Mylor team is flawless as no monster has any scratch.

Alright guys, as a little addition to the article, I am gonna share what I got as my daily chests 🎁 when I grinded ranked battle on April 12, 2023. There are 22 Gold chests but no legendary, no Chaos Legion pack, No great SPS nor Merits But I still have to be grateful with 10 BCX of Octavia Shadowmeld which helped me to increase the level of that death 💀 summoner into level 4. That's enough to be used on any SPS Silver tournament in order to call any Death Gladius card. Another cool card is Drybone Barbarian. I think this card is very underrated because he is a neutral monster and have Enrage and retaliate at Gold league. Very useful card in Up Close and Personal Combat ⚔️ when earth splinter is not available.
