My Actifit Report Card: August 27 2025
The first day after coming back from San Diego went pretty well, I had a very successful production deployment at work and managed to get the side project moving pretty well as well.
Then, after work, I did a really good weight lifting workout, which helped me to achieve another day above ten thousand steps. It was a great timing for the weight lifting workout as there was no time or desire on my part to do a weight lifting workouts while on vacation in San Diego.
There was a full gym at our hotel, but we only used their pool where I did a little bit of swimming in addition to playing in the water with our daughter.
The cover image of two giraffes is from our visit to San Diego Safari zoo. Apparently, there are two zoos in San Diego. We chose to visit the larger one where we booked a ninety minute ride in a flat bed trunk where we were able to see various animals very closely.
It was an interesting experience as we had to go through multiple security gates. Some of these were double gates where you open one gate drive in and then close the gate behind you before you open the gate in front of you.
This was done to make sure that animals did not escape through the gates, and there were at least two double gates plus an extra single gate.
We were able to visit two areas, one representing Africa and one representing Asia. Africa was the first area that we visited, and it was our favorite. In Africa, we saw larger Rhinos and our favorite animals giraffes.
The giraffes were walking right next to the truck and were really fun to see. These animals are so tall over fifteen feet high. We also saw them being fed, and it was fun to watch as they gathered around some special tree branches that were put up on a high poll for them to eat.
We also saw lots of rhinos that were walking all over the place. Apparently, rhinos do not have a very good eye sight and can charge you if they perceive you as a threat. Attack first and ask questions later type strategy.
For that reason, when our driver saw one of the male rhinos suddenly get up, he chose to drive us away from the rhinos at that moment.
There were also other animals in Africa, but they were a bit less impressive, and the same can be said about the second area we visited: Asia.
I was surprised to learn that in Asia, there are still wild cows that were never domesticated. Cow is such a staple in agriculture that I would never think of a cow as a wild animal.
There were also smaller rhinos in Asia that really enjoyed hanging out in the water. It was such a hot day, and the larger zoo is located about thirty miles in land and away from the mild climate of San Diego.
So it was at least ten degrees hotter there than in San Diego. And we came a day after a heat wave warning, but it was still very hot, and we were glad to be on a truck where the breeze was helping us to cool down.
We are approaching the end of the season in Splinterlands. In the last few days we experienced a quick pump in SPS price from .72 cents to .85 cents.
This is due to the news that there will be a new mini set that will be priced in SPS at a rate of 1.4 cents which provided a fifty percent discount at .72 cents, but even at .85 cents it still provides a forty percent discount.
The pre proposal has not passed yet, but it looks like it is passing. It will be interesting to see if SPS goes higher, holds the current level or goes lower...

We have a zoo here that makes you do safari too, but with your own car, you enter and follow the path... Of course dangerous animals are behind water or not easily reachable, but it's still a cool experience
That is pretty cool as well!

I've always heard good things about the San Diego Zoo. It looks like quite the immersive experience. Nice shots!
Thank you! It is great, with one exception food prices: $65 for 3 hot dogs, small bottle of water and one lemonade :)
Oh dang, yeah, that sounds about like a major sporting event!
!PIZZA
Thank you
We have got giraffe 5 minutes down the road and only see them a few times a year as they are on the other side of the hill out of view normally. An old friend of ours lives there and he feeds them trucking in food weekly and why they don't wander around looking for food. They live outside his house permanently much to the annoyance of other residents in the eco estate.
It sounds like they are almost pests in Africa 😀
To us they were really cool to see...
No not at all we all love them and my old friend keeps them by his side as he feeds them and they just stick around his spot. Whenever we see them we try and park up and watch them for a few minutes as they are one of our favorite animals.
Do you remember the story about the giraffe hitting an over head pass? This was the officials trying to remove the giraffe from this eco estate as they said the food Giraffes eat was not native to the area. They were right as now we have Acacia trees growing everywhere from the Giraffes weekly food delivery. I had two growing in my garden and had to chop them down as they are a thorn tree that grows faster than a weed.
Didn't see that story :) It must be because these trees are not native to Africa, in Ukraine those Acacia trees grow very slowly...
They are native here as most of the bush has these trees except that is 200 kilometers away from this area and why they wanted to move the Giraffes away. No point now as these trees are everywhere and only took a few years to take over.
