DIY: Couple of avocados to decorate the fridge. [ENG+ESP]

I never cease to be amazed by the curiosities of the DIY world, and when I was asked to make an avocado-shaped magnetic decoration, the phrase they used was “I want one because I've seen so many”. It turns out it was true, and this particular decoration is one to have in the repertoire, as it is famous and has been replicated many times, varying only slightly in design.

The strange thing is that I had never made an avocado couple before and I have been making similar decorations for a long time. That is why this time I will share with you how to make some beautiful and simple magnetized avocado couple decorations made with fomi.

Nunca dejo de sorprenderme con las curiosidades del mundo DIY y es que, cuando me pidieron elaborar una decoración imantada con forma de aguacate, la frase que utilizaron fue "yo quiero una porque he visto muchas". Resulta que era cierto, y esta decoración en particular es una de las que hay que tener en el repertorio, ya que es famosa y se ha replicado muchas veces, variando solamente un poco el diseño.

Lo extraño es que nunca había hecho una parejita de aguacates y eso que llevo tiempo confeccionando adornos similares. Es por ello que en esta ocasión les compartiré cómo confeccionar unas hermosas y sencillas decoraciones imantadas con forma de parejita de aguacates hechas con fomi.

Step by step // Paso a paso

1️⃣ I will start by marking the design on a sheet of paper and then cut out each of the parts to form the molds. Don't worry, I will leave a link at the end of the publication in case you want to print the molds.

Empezaré marcando el diseño en una hoja de papel para luego recortar cada una de las partes y así formar los moldes. No se preocupen, ya que al final de la publicación les dejaré un enlace por si desean imprimir los moldes.

2️⃣ Using the two larger molds, I will mark and cut out their silhouette on a green fomi sheet for the large one and a yellow one for the small one. These pieces are cut out in pairs. Remember that this is a pair of avocados.

Utilizando los dos moldes más grandes, marcaré y recortaré su silueta en una lámina de fomi verde para el grande y una amarilla para el pequeño. Estas piezas se recortan en pares. Recuerden que se trata de una pareja de aguacates.

3️⃣ With the small pieces I will proceed in the same way, only the circle and the heart will be carmelite, while the ribbon will be frosted fuchsia. The carmelite pieces correspond to the seeds of each of the avocados and, well, the bow is a bow. 😅

Con las piezas pequeñas procederé de igual forma, solo que el círculo y el corazón serán carmelitas, mientras que el lazo será fucsia escarchado. Las piezas carmelitas corresponden a las semillas de cada uno de los aguacates y, pues, el lazo es un lazo. 😅

4️⃣ Once all the parts that make up the ornament have been cut out, I glue them on top of each other. First the yellow layer on top of the green one and on top of that the carmel seeds. The avocado with the heart-shaped seed will be the small avocado from now on, and it will have a ribbon glued on the upper right corner.

Una vez que todas las partes que conforman el adorno fueron recortadas, las pego una encima de otras. Primero la capa amarilla sobre la verde y encima las semillas carmelitas. El aguacate con la semilla en forma de corazón será a partir de ahora el aguacate chico, y este llevará pegado un lazo en la esquina superior derecha.

5️⃣ With all the parts glued together, I begin to draw and shape the face of the avocado couple. Both the boy's and girl's designs will be much appreciated and I will draw them first in pencil. After I am satisfied with the design, I begin to draw over it using the black fine tip marker. Additionally, with the white marker, I draw the sparkles of the eyes and with some pink shadow I give blush to the cheeks of the girl avocado.

Con todas las partes pegadas, comienzo a dibujar y dar forma al rostro de la parejita de aguacates. Ambos diseños, tanto del chico como de la chica, serán muy apreciados y los dibujaré primeramente a lápiz. Luego de quedar conforme con el diseño, empiezo a dibujar encima utilizando el marcador de negro de punta fina. Adicionalmente, con el marcador blanco, dibujo los brillos de los ojos y con un poco de sombra rosa doy rubor a las mejillas del aguacate chica.

6️⃣ Finally, I glued two magnets on the back of each of the avocados and they were ready to decorate any refrigerator.

Para finalizar, pegué dos imanes en el reverso de cada uno de los aguacates y así quedarían listos para decorar cualquier nevera.
