Damian Ochoa – ID: 4417 - Back Story

Damian considered himself a boring person, someone who had nothing to offer in any aspect of his life. That changed, however, when one day he woke up in the morning to find a small bird knocking on his window.

As he let it in, the bird began to circle the room.
“Hey! What are you doing?" Damian said, not waiting for an answer, of course, trying to catch it to guide him out.
"What do you do?" the bird replied.

Damian stopped in his tracks and stared at the bird, unable to believe it. "Did you just talk to me?"
“Sure, who else? I don't see anyone else here,” said the bird.
"How can you speak?"

"I don't know, but when I realized I could do it, I thought it would be good to talk to someone."
"And why me?"

“I live in the tree in your yard,” the bird's reply was so simple and obvious that Damian burst out laughing.
"What do you want to talk about?" the man asked, sitting on his bed.
The bird circled more. "I don't know, teach me something!"

Damian thought for a while. "I know things about trees, do you want me to teach you about it?"
"Sure," the bird answered and stood on the nightstand to listen carefully.

Damian began to explain to the little bird everything he knew about trees. The bird listened carefully and even asked questions about it. They talked for so long that it was nearly sunset by the time they finished.

"Well, I should go," said the bird. “Thank you very much for the talk and the explanation.”
“You're welcome,” Damian answered, smiling.

They both said goodbye. The bird went to his tree and Damian went to eat something, thinking that he had had a very strange day.
The next day, he woke up to a knock on his window. The little bird was there, waiting to be let in. But he was not alone, he was accompanied by another bird.

"Hello!" said the little bird as he opened the window for them. "I brought my friend, he wants to learn too."
Damian looked at them for a moment. "Well... what do you want to learn about today?"

“Other birds!” said the new bird.
Damian excused himself for a moment, going to get some breakfast. On the way, he took a book about birds from his library. Back in his room, he sat on the bed and began to explain once again everything he knew, using the book.

As the day passed, more birds came closer and entered Damian's room, to listen to what he had to teach.
This was repeated for several days, until a week later, the original bird approached him and said:
“You’re a great teacher, Damian.”

"Thank you very much, but I'm not really a teacher, I just like to explain things."
“But you are, you are our teacher. Thank you for teaching us."

"You're welcome, when you want to know something... you know where I am."
Since then Damian teaches a different subject to all the birds in his neighborhood.
