OnlyFans Quietly Added "Web3 Avatars"
I was doing some research earlier and found a little gem that I thought I'd share. OnlyFans is the most popular internet content subscription site that is primarily used for NSFW content. They advertise that it's for musicians, personal trainers, and other creators that want a deep connection with their fans or whatever... But when they decided to ban explicit NSFW content in October, the business nearly died.
Web3 Avatars
In the profile section of OnlyFans, you can add different things like your Spotify so fans can listen to the same music as you. You can add Amazon wishlists, and much more. What you probably never would have expected is to see your favorite adult model using their Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT as their profile picture. I mean, It would get me going but I don't know about you LOL. They have added a feature where you can link your Ethereum wallet to display your NFTs as your avatar or profile picture.
Initially when I noticed this feature, again, I was just doing some research. Right Under the Web3 tab, you have a Web3 Avatar setting. When you click it, you're directed to connect your Metamask wallet. I didn't go any farther than this for a few reasons. Number 1 - I don't use the platform and if I did, I don't know if I'd want to flex my Crypto Punks on there. Number 2 - I don't really trust the website, at all. I would never connect my Metamask to it.
This feature seems to be available to both creators and consumers. So if you're subscribed to your favorite model and they see your Crypto Punk NFT, you might get some special treatment. I really don't know how to write about this without cringing or laughing so that's what I'm here for. I saw this feature and it got my mind churning. They could easily enable crypto tipping with a connected wallet. Imagine if creators were able to accept tips directly with whatever crypto they choose without OnlyFans taking 20% of it. I'd bet that 80% of creators would opt for this rather than have their earnings eaten up by fees. They already get murdered on taxes, why slap them with a 20% fee on top of it.
I fully support and respect anyone that uses the platform to distribute content. I feel they should have a better platform to do so, but there just isn't one yet. There's some projects claiming to be launching the "OnlyFans of crypto" and all that but I have yet to see anything like this actually functional. Regardless of the nature of the creators' content, they are technically running a small business. 99% of the time, they do their own advertising and have other business expenses as well. There's no reason they should have to pay this insane 20% fee just to use the platform. We need to eliminate the middle-man and have a platform for the creators, not for the people running the platform and making insane amounts of money. Said platform could definitely be built on Hive with insanely low fees and nearly instant transactions.

Imagine risking your entire business on the whim of what OnlyFans consider to be woke at this particular time in history.
Losing all your work and followers because someone else clicked a single button and banned you.
Hive solves the problem adult content creators face by offering censorship-resistant accounts, accessible through multiple front-ends.
Their followers are always retained at the account level and if one front-end doesn't like their content, then they just move to another.
It's a perfect fit.
