Splinterlands Saturday

Hey Everyone. The second week of the new year is ending and I'm back with another edition of Splinterlands Saturday. A quick recap of where I'm at in the game (Modern--Diamond reaching for Champion with full Chaos and Riftwatchers decks and partial Untamed and Azmare Dice) so you know where I'm coming from. That's done so...what happened this week?

This Week

First off, the proposal passed so you can be looking forward to buying DEC-B if you want, which can be used to purchase upgrades and a few other things down the road. These give a discount to those future prices and the DEC used to purchase them is burned. For example, you pay 80k DEC now to buy a DEC-B package that allows you to upgrade something that costs 100k DEC later. So you are in essence getting a 20% discount on that upgrade by paying for it now. Details will be coming in the days ahead so keep a watch out.

Another significant thing that happened this week was the release of the January Roadmap.

As you can see, there are a lot of things the team wants to accomplish over the next 6-9 months. A couple things I found particularly noteworthy are the "Season Rentals" and the "3 Rulesets per battle" being added this quarter.

Season Rentals

For those of us who use the rental market, on either side, this will be interesting. I know my rental income fluctuates up and down by almost 50% depending on where we are in the season and when Brawls are happening. Cards that barely get rented for .1 DEC can all of a sudden rent for 3 or 4 DEC, sometimes more, during Brawls. There are also cards that get crazy expensive (usually Goldfoil) during those same Brawls. Being able to rent cards out for an entire season will help alleviate some of that. The question will be finding the "sweet spot" that balances collecting income every day for 15 days versus getting really high prices during brawls and next to nothing on the other days.

Three Rulesets per Battle

I don't know about you, but I have enough trouble with two. lol I'm sure this is going to open up a whole new set of strategies. I mean, think about having a Battle with Thorns, Magic Reflect, and Headwinds all at the same time. :-) Better have some Reflection Shield cards.

Further out in Q3 there are a couple other things that caught my eye.

Land

Obviously this one is top of the list for many Splinterlands players. The promised "Surveying" is on tap for this quarter but "Buildings & Resources" is hanging out there in the third quarter. We're getting there. I won't hold my breath on that happening on time, but I feel like it's going to happen eventually. That still doesn't look like it will affect Battles though. It will add another element to the game in that you will be able to work on your land, but it doesn't look like the "spells" or enhancements you might be creating will make it into the gameplay yet. We'll see.

Rebellion

With Chaos Legion packs at a steep discount due to the DEC price, an ongoing sale, and 25k packs being burned daily, they are not going to last long. A couple months at most. That means there will be a long 3-6 month period with Riftwatchers as the only packs available. There will still be plenty of Chaos packs available on the second-hand markets, but I would guess the price is going to start going up almost immediately. Like I said, there will still be literally millions available, but there should be some upward pressure as that will be the only way for new players to get them. How far? No telling. It depends on how badly the people who own those millions want to get rid of them. It should also help the rental markets somewhat and certainly the overall price of cards on the market.

Which is why I'm still...

Bargain Hunting

I added a couple more I've been wanting to get my hands on.

First, this beauty.

I've had this at Level 5 since I first started playing a year and a half ago but it has always been soooo expensive to upgrade any further. Plus, the difference in stats between 5 and 6 was just never worth the $200 I would have to spend. I just couldn't justify spending that much for 1 more armor when I have so many other holes to fill in my deck. That changed when I saw a max level for just over $250 total. I scooped it up immediately and now I can rent out my level 5 until prices go back up and probably/hopefully sell it for more than I paid for this one. Instant impact. Check out this battle. So much fun (for me). lol

The other one I picked up was...

SPLundeadbadger20230112 052229.gif

I got a max level for just under $120. The Death Splinter is kind of weak on Sneak cards in Modern. The only one is Sha-Vi and that costs 5 mana. This card was selling for around 70 cents per BCX not that long ago. Being a common, that meant I needed 400 to max it. $280 was just too much for a niche use Death card where you're often facing Weaken, Magic, and that stupid Windeku and his Thorns. But, for that price, I think it's worth it. Two mana cards can be very, very handy to have in the arsenal and the 6 speed is never a bad thing (except in Reverse obviously).

Til Next Week

That's it for this week. May the RNG not eff you over and over and over again like it does me. :-)

Hive is the Way.

That's pretty cool picking up maxed cards, And renting out the others, could work out in the long run.

Well, the hope is that prices go back up and I can sell the lower level cards and basically get the max cards for free. We'll see. I think you can sell the lower level cards for more per BCX so that might help.

Nice cards and that taunt plus shield ability looks like a strong combo.

Also, do you think rentals might drop more when they remove the CP requirement for ranked battles? They want to move towards a staked SPS requirement.

I actually had the Taunt plus Shield at level 5. The real value of taking it all the way to 10 is the Return Fire ability on ranged. Now it can be put at the back end of the lineup and avoid taking damage from the tank and a possible Reach monster. PLUS, it can absolutely punish ranged. If you check out the link in the description above you'll see what I mean. He destroyed my opponent without ever firing a shot. :-)

As for the rentals...I don't know. Maybe a little but they're also implementing season long rentals as well as 1-click sets so....there will be some enhancements that may offset the negatives. Plus, Chaos packs will be done being offered by then so...prices may just go up. Throw in a nice bull market and I don't think there will be anything to worry about. :-)

Those are a couple of nice cards to pick up at max level.

Shieldbearer is a great buy and if you can max out a sandworm and silver assassin you have a serious life splinter.

I've got the Sandworm but only half of the Assassin. I've only been playing Modern lately though. I've got full RW and Chaos decks and decent Untamed and Dice so I don't get outclassed too often in cards playing that. My Beta deck has some of the important ones but is pretty weak overall. I kind of maxed out at upper Gold/low Diamond for a while so I just rented them all out and focused on Modern.

Yeah, Life is my favorite Splinter. Throw in the Sacred Unicorn and I've had some fun wins. Super happy about finding that Shieldbearer though. I've been wanting to max that card forever. It's very satisfying to use it against a bunch of ranged, as in the Battle I linked in the article.
