What is basically done in this office?

The Upazila Parishad administrative building essentially serves as the hub for all administrative activities and government services in an Upazila. It is an important part of the local government system, where representatives elected by the local people Chairman, Vice Chairman and Women Vice Chairman and officials from various government departments work in coordination.

Here, along with administrative functions, various important government decisions are implemented. For example, agriculture, education, health, infrastructure development, poverty alleviation, self-employment creation, etc. are planned and implemented from this building. Moreover, information about land-related issues and the law and order situation is kept here. In addition, this building has the function of delivering any incoming information services of the government to the public.

When I went, it was noon and there was no crowd of people. There is a clean and secure main gate to enter the office premises which is manned by security personnel 24 hours a day. The entrance is wide and clean so that there is no difficulty in the movement of people.

There are directional boards for visitors on both sides of the gate which show the layout of the office, the departments and the location of the rooms with pictures. Although I will write about this in the next step. This gate is very secure which is known as the iron snips gate.

There is a parking area next to the administrative building in the district council with ample space, which is divided into two separate sections. One for the working officials and one for the visitors. Although I did not have any vehicle with me, I had no other work to do except take pictures of the parking area.

There are separate parking lanes for all types of vehicles including motorcycles, private cars and microbuses. The parking area is monitored by CCTV cameras and is manned by security personnel round the clock.

There were three big notice boards or it can also be called instruction boards. The notice board section plays a very important role in informing the visitors and officials. A big digital and printed notice board has been installed next to the entrance of the main building.

Here there is all the information about all the administrative activities of the upazila. In addition, there is a specific list of how and within what time this upazila administrative building will complete all the activities of private and government educational institutions, old age allowance, land related matters, infrastructure development in rural areas, primary education related matters and land related matters. In addition, there is a structure showing how many unions there are and where each union is located. It is easy to understand which union is on which side by observing it, which makes the functioning of the building easier. Moreover, there are instructions on holidays at different times and what work to do at what time.

The office of the Upazila Nirbahi is located in the heart of the main building. This room is furnished with modern furniture, file cabinets and a small conference table. Here, various important files of the health department are approved every day, meetings are held with officials and decisions are taken regarding the implementation of various government and private directives.

The room is beautifully and professionally decorated. One thing I noticed is that the Civil Surgeon has two bodyguards who are his personal secretaries. They are always in his room. The name of this Upazila Officer is (Md. Kamrul Hasan)

There is a spacious and cool waiting room for people coming to the Rangunia Upazila Parishad administrative office every day. There are enough chairs and benches to sit, health awareness posters and digital screens are pasted on the walls.

Many times, elderly or incoming people enter the office after taking a break here for a while. A separate filter machine has also been installed for water. However, I noticed that everyone has a high-quality fan above their heads to withstand the heat. Fans have been arranged so that people do not suffer in the heat, but there is an AC arrangement for high-ranking officials.

Since it is an important government office, it is very important to have a security system. To ensure overall security, CCTV cameras have been installed throughout the office area.

High resolution CCTV cameras have been installed at every important location like the main entrance, parking area, waiting room, office rooms and corridors which are monitored round the clock from the control room. As a result, it has been possible to ensure order and security of the office. The CCTV cameras are active 24 hours a day.

Accidents are not uncommon in our lives and can happen at any time. Therefore, it is important to always have safety equipment. As per government regulations, the office has a modern fire extinguishing system. Fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and alarm systems are installed on each floor.

Fire escape routes are marked for safe exit in case of emergency and fire drills are also organized every year so that officers and employees can be prepared. However, the most important thing is the fire safety equipment, which I have taken a picture of.

Since visiting there, I can personally say that the Sonia Upazila Parishad Office has undoubtedly strengthened its position as a modern, orderly and people-friendly administrative institution. Every aspect of it, such as a clean and secure main gate, spacious parking area, comfortable waiting rooms, orderly office rooms, prayer rooms designated for religious practices, staff restrooms, CCTV camera security everywhere, modern fire extinguishing system, electrical maintenance unit and notice boards ensuring information flow, all combine to make this office a unique model administrative center.
