Splinterlands Art Contest 356 - Coastal Sentry Fan Art Drawing [ENG-ESP]

Hello dear friends, I send my greetings to all the Aliens and artists who meet every week in the weekly Splinterlands art contest. My wish is that everyone can participate with their great creations, I'm doing the same this week, so I want to share with you which character was chosen to participate. It is Coastal Sentry, a beautiful and powerful woman with the body of a mermaid who belongs to the domain of the mares. It was not difficult to imagine the ancient stories of these mythological beings that lurked in the mares. I really liked her design, which I find very beautiful. To make this fan art I only made a few slight changes so as not to alter the essence of the character too much. Here I will describe in a few brief lines what was the step-by-step process to complete it. I hope you like it, let's begin!

Hola queridos amigos, envío mis saludos a todos los Aliens y artistas que cada semana se dan cita en el concurso semanal de arte de Splinterlands. Mis deseos es que todos puedan participar con sus grandiosas creaciones, yo hago lo propio esta semana, así que quiero compartir con ustedes cual fue el personaje que elegí para participar. Se trata de Coastal Sentry una hermosa y poderosa mujer con cuerpo de sirena que pertenece al dominio de los mares. No fue difícil imaginar las antiguas historias de estos seres mitológicos que asechaban en los mares, me gustó mucho su diseño el cual me parece muy hermoso, para hacer este fan art solo hice unos leves cambios para no alterar mucho la esencia del personaje. Aquí voy a relatar en unas breves líneas cual fue el paso a paso para lograr finalizarlo, espero que les guste, comencemos!

I was planning on doing this drawing on black cardstock. In fact, I did some tests, but I wasn't entirely convinced at first. I don't think it would stand out as well, so I ended up using traditional white cardstock. After that, instead of colored ones, I used a simple pencil for the sketch, using the face as a reference point and then drawing the rest of the person, such as their arms and the rest of their body. I made the lines without too much marking, since I didn't want to erase them completely but rather start painting over them with the colored pencils.

Este dibujo tenía pensado hacerlo en cartulina negra, de hecho hice algunas pruebas pero el inicio no me convenció, creo que no iba a resaltar de la misma manera por lo que terminé utilizando cartulina blanca, la tradicional. Después de ello, en lugar de colores, utilicé un simple lápiz para el boceto, tomando como punto de referencia el rostro y a partir de ahí dibujar el resto del personaje, como sus brazos y el resto del cuerpo. Las líneas las hice sin marcar demasiado, ya que no quería borrarlas del todo sino comenzar a pintar con los lápices de color encima de ellas.

I started painting my fan art. One of the biggest changes, or I would say the most significant change from the original card, was that I changed the skin color. Instead of painting it that aquatic green, I painted it in a somewhat humanized way. For that, I used a very light pastel peach color, and in the areas where more contrast was needed, I used a darker shade.

Comencé a pintar mi fan art, uno de los grandes cambios, o yo diría el cambio más significativo con respecto a la carta original es que cambié el color de la piel, en lugar de pintarla de ese color verde acuático, la piel la pinté una tanto humanizado. Para eso utilicé un color durazno pastel muy claro, y en las partes donde era necesario más contraste utilicé un tono más oscuro.

Once the face was painted, I think it was time to paint the eyes. I made them a light turquoise, but I added other shades to make them more vibrant and striking. For example, I added purple mixed with blue around the edges and some yellow dots in the center. I gave the hair a different look, but I tried to keep the colors, at least maintaining that cool tone that reminds us it belongs to the aquatic world.

Pintado el rostro creo que fue el momento de pintar los ojos, los hice de un color turquesa claro pero agregé otros tonos para hacerlos más vivos y llamativos, por ejemplo en los bordes pusé color púrpura mezclado con azul y en el centro unos puntos amarillos. Al cabello le di otro look pero traté de conservar los colores, al menos mantener esa tonalidad fría que nos recuerda que pertenece al mundo acuático.

Next, I began painting the remaining visible parts of the body, such as the chest and arms, using the same tones I used on the face, adding and changing other details. Up to this point, I was excited about the direction my drawing had taken; somehow, the skin tone I used made me feel like it was realistic, even though it wasn't.

Seguidamente me pusé a pinatr el retso del cuerpo que esta visible, como el pecho y los brazos, utilizando los mismos tonos que apliqué en el rostro, agregué otros detalles y cambién otros. Hasta aquí estaba emocionado por el rumbo que habia tomado mi dibujo, de alguna forma el tono de piel que puse me hacía sentir que estaba quedando realista aunque no lo fuera.

I also painted at the bottom of the drawing. I used the same colors but changed the tones just a bit. This kind of contrast is what I like to do most when I'm directing the drawing toward the anime style. I painted the staff that helps with its powers, I made the sphere turquoise so that the essence of water is very present, and in the design I only made a few changes to the strokes, but I tried to paint with light, warm colors to give the staff that golden style.

En la parte inferior del dibujo también fui pintando, utilicé los mismos colores pero cmabién solo un poco los tonos, esta clase de contrastes es la que más me gusta hacer cuando el dibujo lo estoy dirigiendo hacia el estilo ánime. Pinté el báculo que ayuda con sus poderes, hice la esfera de color turquesa para que la esencia del agua esté muy presencia, y en el diseño hice solo pocos cambios en los trazos, pero traté de pintar con colores cálidos claros para darle ese estilo dorado al báculo.

Then, to give more intensity to all the colors I've used so far, I take the corresponding colored markers and begin to give them more intensity. Since they're alcohol-based, the ink helps a lot to blend and blend with the texture of the colored pencils. Then, as a final important detail, I begin to outline the entire drawing with a fine-tipped black marker. Little by little, each line is covered, and the drawing gains more volume.

Después para darle más intensidad a todos los colores que he utilizado hasta ahora tomo los marcadores de los colores que corresponen y comienzo a darle más intensidad a los colores, como son a base de alcohol, la tinta ayuda mucho para difuminar y hacer mezclas con la textura de los lápices de colores. Después como útlimo detalle importante comienzo a delinear todo el dibujo con un marcador negro de punta fina, así poco a poco cada línea va siendo cubierta y el dibujo logra tener más volumen.

Then, to add some finishing touches to the drawing, I always like to go back over each step with the colors, so I can see where a little more contrast is needed. I do this until I'm happy with the final result. What do you think of the result? Although it changed a little, the difference isn't much. I emphasize the skin color; I really liked how it looks now. Luego para darle unos toques finales al dibujo, siempre me gusta volver a repasar cada paso utilizado con los colores, así puedo ver donde falta un poco más de contraste, esto lo hago hasta quedar conforme con el resultado final. Qué les parece el resultado? si bien cmabió un poco la diferencia no es mucho, insisto en el color de la piel, realmente me gustó mucho como luce ahora, otro punto interesante es la mezcla de colores que hay en sus ojos, le da mucha vida al personaje.
