For a couple of weeks now I've been immersed in my nostalgia and childhood memories. Which makes me going through a lot of my old stuff. Among them, consoles and video games.
Desde hace un par de semanas que ando sumergido en mi nostalgia y en mis recuerdos de la infancia. Lo que hace que esté revisando mucho mis cosas viejas. Entre ellas, consolas y videojuegos.
Previously, it was the turn of Super Mario Sunshine and now it is the turn of Dragon Ball Z Budokai. A game that marked the beginning of the golden age of Dragon Ball games.
Anteriormente, le tocó a Super Mario Sunshine y ahora es turno de Dragón Ball Z Budokai. Un juego que marcó el inicio de la época dorada de los juegos de Dragón Ball.
Dragon Ball Z Budokai was released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2 and in 2003 for the Nintendo Game Cube (which is the version I have).

This game is obviously way behind the times by today's standards. It is more than 20 years old, but in its time it was revolutionary and innovative.

What stood out the most about the first Budokai was its story mode. It recreates the events from the beginning of Dragon Ball Z, until the Cell saga. With quite impressive graphics for that time. To the point that it really doesn't look like it came from a game that is 23 years old. You can tell that the graphic designers took full advantage of the capabilities of the graphics engine of the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Game Cube.
Lo que más destacó del primer Budokai fue su modo historia. Que recrea los acontecimientos desde el inicio de Dragón Ball Z, hasta la saga de Cell. Con gráficos bastante impresionantes para aquel entonces. Al punto que de verdad no parece que vinieran de un juego que tiene 23 años. Se nota que los diseñadores gráficos aprovecharon al máximo las capacidades del motor gráfico de la PlayStation 2 y la Nintendo Game Cube.
Aside from introducing us to and reliving the early Dragon Ball Z sagas, we also have a bonus episode after each “what if?” story arc. Where we get the chance to star Vegeta, Freezer and Cell. And where we are given the possibility of which villain manages to win this time, twisting events from the original series. Which I believe was the first time something like this was implemented in a Dragon Ball game.
Aparte de introducirnos y revivir las primeras sagas de Dragón Ball Z, también tenemos un episodio extra luego cada arco argumental del tipo “¿qué pasaría si…?” Donde tenemos la oportunidad de protagonizar a Vegeta, Freezer y Cell. Y donde nos dan la posibilidad del que villano logre ganar esta vez, torciendo eventos de la serie original. Cosa que creo que fue la primera vez que se implementó algo así en un juego de Dragón Ball.
Apart from the story mode we will have a tournament section where we will be able to compete against the machine by choosing the number of participants and the difficulty (easy, normal and hard). Honestly, this was what I was least interested in playing.
Aparte del modo historia tendremos una sección de torneo donde podremos competir contra la máquina eligiendo la cantidad de participantes y la dificultad (fácil, normal y difícil). Honestamente, esto era lo que menos me interesaba jugar.
Finally, we have the typical VS where we can play with our friends choosing from a category of usable characters. Which I think is fine. If I'm not mistaken it's the first time that diagonal moves were included in a Dragon Ball game.
Por último, tenemos el típico VS donde podemos jugar con nuestros amigos eligiendo dentro de una categoría de personajes utilizables. Que creo que está bien. Si no me equivoco es la primera vez que se incluía movimientos diagonales en un juego de Dragón Ball.
Something that I personally didn't like about this installment was that they cut the content of the Buu saga and all of Dragon Ball GT. Not so much for the story, that doesn't bother me much. But I am annoyed by the limited amount of characters. Since it only has 23, ignoring many transformations like SSJ 3 and SSJ4 and characters like Majin Buu, Yi Xing Long (one star dragon). I guess this is due to the limitations of the time, but it was still something I didn't like.
Algo que a mí personalmente no me gustó de esta entrega fue que hayan cortado el contenido de la saga de Buu y todo Dragón Ball GT. No tanto por la historia, eso no me molesta mucho. Pero si me fastidia la cantidad tan limitada de personajes. Ya que solo cuenta con 23, ignorando muchas transformaciones como el SSJ 3 y SSJ4 y personajes como Majin Buu, Yi Xing Long (dragón de una estrella). Supongo que esto se debe a las limitaciones de la época, pero aun así fue algo que no me agradó.
The game, in general, is fine. It met the standards of the time. And in some aspects, it even surpassed them. For me it was an honor to have known and played this game. Which was the one that kicked off an incredible era of Dragon Ball games.
El juego en general, está bien. Cumplió con los estándares de la época. Y en algunos aspectos, hasta los superó. Para mí fue un honor haber conocido y haber jugado este juego. Que fue el que dio inicio a una época increíble de juegos de Dragón Ball.

Well yeah for examples Buu's Fury or Xenoverse or the new Sparking. One of my favorites is from GBA Dragon ball adventure hehe or me is the best. But you know i love DB and everything related
