What is going on everyone? I am here to bring you some news, involving Ubisoft and their attempt at introducing NFTs to their games. And well, I am making this video/article to update you on this situation!

NFTs are a very controversial subject. Some people love them, others think they are a horrible idea. When Ubisoft announced that they would be going the NFT route, fans were upset. And rightfully so. As someone who is more for NFT’s then against them, I thought this would end in disaster.
Ubisoft NFTs took the form of “digits” items that could be purchased on their website with currency called Quartz. These items then could be used in game, or resold. To test this new mechanic out, Ubisoft used their game, Ghost Recon Breakpoint. And a few days ago, they had announced that they were waving goodbye to the game and not adding any more content to it.
As someone who knows a little about NFTs as I own some in the form of Splinterland cards, I always thought that this was a bad move. What would happen if a Ubi shuts down a game server? Any NFT’s that would be held for a specific game would lose all value, and the only person who would be out money are the holders.
According to The Verge, one of its writers asked in an email to Ubi if these NFT’s would be transferable to other games, and had not received an answer back about that question. If Ubi wants to do NFT’s right, this is one of the things they need to implement. Not only will it protect holders of NFT’s but it might also add value to NFTs that were obtainable in certain games.
But Ubisoft isn’t out of the NFT market. In fact, a recent job posting shows that they are looking to hire someone for blockchain related jobs. It will be interesting to see what Ubisoft does in the future, and whether NFTs will enter the mainstream gaming market.
But it also brings another question to mind: will the introduction of these NFT’s in game cause the game to become Pay to Win? When it comes to NFT’s in mainstream gaming, I believe in the same rule as I do with micro-transaction, as long as the item is cosmetic, and/or the currency for said items can be earned through in game grinding, I am okay with it!

Los NFT son un tema muy controvertido. Algunas personas los aman, otras piensan que son una idea horrible. Cuando Ubisoft anunció que seguirían la ruta NFT, los fanáticos se enfadaron. Y con razón. Como alguien que está más a favor de los NFT que en su contra, pensé que esto terminaría en un desastre.
Los NFT de Ubisoft tomaron la forma de artículos de "dígitos" que se podían comprar en su sitio web con una moneda llamada Quartz. Estos artículos podrían usarse en el juego o revenderse. NFTs and Play to Earn is the future of gaming. Its not a matter of will mainstream gaming companies introduced NFT's, its a matter of when and it looks like it has begun. I suspect many hiccups before they get it right as the majority of the population is still stuck on a web 2.0 mindset.
It's going to be interesting to see how other companies handle the change. To me, NFTs are no different than any other piece of DLC, with the exception that you can actually sell an NFT when done with it.

¡Gracias! He estado viendo otros youtubers y estoy tratando de hacer tomas cada vez más largas sin tener que editar nada. Espero que en un par de meses pueda grabar todo en una sola toma, o que sea lo suficientemente bueno como para ser capaz de "volar".
Y esa es mi principal preocupación, cuando estos artículos dejen de ser cosméticos y comiencen a sumergirse en equipos que otorgan bonificaciones a las personas.

I thought the concept would be cool for regular game companies like if an Esports champion had some NFTs equipped and then won a tournament with that setup then the prices of the NFT would sky rocket and such allowing a buy and sell market to flourish.
But it seems like they misunderstood the concept and perhaps explained it poorly to their userbase creating such a big strife among the community. Maybe if they allowed players the ability to mint their equipment into NFTs instead of selling already minted gear, giving the users more control over skins, gear, and unique items they have. That might appease some of the player base that have been burned out from all the micro-transactions.
But until everybody understands the concept, reasoning, and purpose of NFTs there will be pushback. Thank you for the news update regarding Ubisoft and their attempt to venture into the space, I was curious to see how it would all turn out and I am glad you shared this.
I agree. I think allowing the players to have more control over the NFTs would ease a lot of the fanbases concerns. But that being said, I don't think Ubi fully understands nfts or at least not in the capacity that they should before attemping something like this.

Hubo tremenda polémica con esto de Ubisoft, y es un tema medio peliagudo, pero yo no lo criminalizo como lo hace mucha gente, he jugado algunos NFT, y pues no me gustaría la idea de que eso se traspasara a juegos AAA, daría mala vibra eso.
Creo que si se hace bien, más personas se abrirían a él. Pero debe hacerse bien casi desde el principio, ya que muchos fanáticos no estarán dispuestos a darle una segunda oportunidad a las NFT. Y con el estigma que los rodea hoy, se vuelve aún más importante. Simplemente no creo que una compañía como Ubisoft pueda lograr esto.
