Exploring Card Synergies for Bren Palesworn

A few days ago, the first Influencer Townhall was held which consist of aftersound, infidel1258, bulldog1205, bjangles of the Peoples Guild and gathering the magic, some of the most recognizable voices in Splinterlands while on the team's side, we have the newly appointed COO davemccoy, blazekos and breakingbenjamin to discuss the upcoming release of Conclave Arcana. They talked about their hot takes on Conclave Arcana, their strategy on which packs to buy and early thoughts on how the new set could affect the game.

Aside from that, they also reveal some cards from the set, one of which is the legendary unit Bren Palesworn and in this post, I would look into its possible synergies in modern league as I see it to be one of the most necessary card with the upcoming meta.

Bren Palesworn will be one of the three cards which will have the Shapeshift ability. This ability makes the card to be treated as if they were all races or any race and as a result, this allows them to benefit from bloodline-specific effects, such as being summoned by an archon with dominion over a particular bloodline. Aside from that, it was also the first Weapon's Training card that will have 2 types of attacks, giving a non- damage unit with both melee and range attacks. It also has Sneak that will allow it to attack the back of the opponent's team and True Strike that will make its attack to not miss the target.

Good Rulesets for Bren Palesworn

^{Up Close & Personal}	Only Monsters with Melee attack may be used in battles.
^{Going the Distance}	Only monsters with Range attack may be used in battle.
^{Shades Of Grey}	Only neutral units may be used in battle.

As Bren Palesworn was both a melee and range unit, it can be effectively used in both Up Close & Personal and Going the Distance ruleset as well as when we have very few options of cards to play during Shades of Grey as only neutral units can be used.

Modern Card Synergies

Rebellion Summoners:

Among the Rebellion summoners, I think that Bren Palesworn could benefit when used together with Reklah given that it could give it the Reflection Shield to protect it against Eternal Tofu. And when it comes to dragon summoners, I think it could synergize well with Akane by giving the card the Ambush ability to be able to attack the opponent even before the first round begins and possibly defeat one or more opponent units as well as with Nidhoggr by giving it the execute ability to go through a third attack if the opponent has 2 or less health. But among the summoners, I see Cryptic to be the most compatible summoner for it with both Retaliate and Enfeeble to work against melee opponents or the Poison and Expose for that can make the target vulnerable.

Rebellion Units:

Basically, any cards that has no damage and does not have the Untrainable ability within the Rebellion set will synergize well with Bren Palesworn by giving them both melee and range damage on adjacent non-damage units due to the effect of Weapon's Training.

Furthermore, if we include Weapon's Training cards with magic damage, then suddenly, we got our non-damage unit with 3 types of attacks. And if you further sandwiched the Weapon's Traning card with another two non- damage units, then we will have all three of them trained.

Archons:

With the new Archons and Bloodline Dominion mechanic, Bren Palesworn can benefit to any status effect and abilities that Archons give since it has the Shapeshift ability, making the card all race. For example when used with and Ulunds bloodline, Brens Palesworn will be considered as Ulund an be able to get the Shield ability.

Closing

So yeah... I believe that Bren Palesworn will be a very important card when the new modern format comes as it was both a Neutral and an all race card that can also be used during either melee or range only ruleset. Moreover, we have yet to see the rest of the Conclave Arcana so I think that there will be more usecase for this card than from what we currently know.
