Double Snipe = Double Trouble

Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

Kela Gaines.png

It's been a while now since LYRA & LORN’S voucher shop has become available in Splinterlands. It is a shop where items can only be purchased with Vouchers, after it has been removed as a discount token when buying packs, or as an alternative entry fee for a Wild pass. Since the Voucher shop has become available, it has produced 5 different cards that were only available for sale within 90 days before they were replaced with a new card. It is also the only Voucher card so far that was able to make us Voucher deflationary, meaning more Vouchers were burned during the time that it was available than what was minted.

In this post, I like to share a recent battle that I had using Kelan Gaines, which undeniable still the strongest among the Voucher cards for this week's Community Engagement Challenge, with the theme of Battlefield Breakdowns

Kelan Gaines is a rare magic unit that has both the Death and Dragon attributes, so any Archons with those abilities can summon this card, making it a very versatile card. It was not as strong of a card at level 1, as it only has the Snipe ability, but when it reaches level 2, it gets Phase, which allows it to dodge magic attacks, and since it has a decent speed, that will be something that is helpful when against any magic teams. At level 4, it becomes more of a solid card, having the Backfire ability that will inflict damage to any units that miss their attack on this card, but it really becomes a frightening card when it reaches level 8, where it gets the Double Strike ability that allows it to attack twice per turn.

Battlefield Rulesets

Rulesets are the modifiers that change how a player will build their lineup with the cards at their disposal. In the match that I am about to share, there is the Blood Moon moon ruleset, which is a Halloween limited ruleset and will be unavailable within the next few days, and what this ruleset does is to give the Bloodlust ability on all units. Broken Arrows was also available, but that just means that no units with range attack can be used in battle. Aside from that, there is a 47 mana-cap, and the only available elements to play was Fire, Life, and Death.

My Lineup

Archon: Lorkus

With the Archon Lorkus, both melee and magic units gain +1 damage, so adding that to the damage of Kelan Gaines, then all of a sudden, he gets 4 magic damage per attack or a total of 8 damage per turn. But aside from that, by giving it the Life Leech and Affliction ability during the tactics stage, not only will it gain additional health every time it lands an attack, but also, it will prevent the target from getting any form of heal.

Units

In this battle, I had Grimbardun Smith as my main tank, cause while it does not have any damage, it has both the Shield and Void ability that reduces the attack from melee, range, and magic attacks by half, and it has Immunity, so it will not get any debuffs from the opponent, then I had my black foil Grim Bonewhip to do any Reach attack while it reduces the armor of the opponent team with Rust and provide ally units additional speed with Swiftness.

As for my main attacker, I had Barashkukor, which is already a powerful card with 5 base damage even without the boost from Lorkus, and then, there was Kellan Gaines, who may not have as powerful base damage, but since it can attack twice with Double Strike, can provide more damage.

Dark Arborist on the 3rd position helps a little by reducing my opponent's melee damage, and can also provide some good defence against magic units with its Void and Magic Reflect ability, while Ujurak Elder was there mainly to provide additional speed and health to ally units with its Swiftness and Stregnthen.

Battle Showcase

image.png

With those two rulesets around, I chose a fast magic-focused team with my tank able to defend against both melee and magic attacks. On the other hand, the opponent has chosen to use a bloodline summoner that gives his Dwarf units the Void ability, which is the main opponent of my team. That said, my team still had the upper hand, given that the opponent team had a lower level than mine.

image.png

In round 1, the taunt unit of the opponent team was taken down by Dark Arborist through the support that my main attackers have provided, and as a result, it gains additional stats with the effects of Bloodlust. But even not able to defeat the opponent, Kelan Gaines was still able to Leach some health, and now has a total of 12 health.

image.png

But then, during round 2, Kelan Gaines was finally able to hit where it hurts, defeating Emberguard. Meanwhile, Dark Arborist was able to steal another kill by defeating Drybone Megalodon. Now both cards have 5 magic damage.

image.png

And in round 3, the battle has finally ended with Kellan Gaines taking hits to Conclave Tracker while the remaining cards were defeated by Dark Arborist and Ujurak Elder, causing all of them to get an additional stat boost. Now, both Kellan Gaines and Dark Arborist has as much damage as Barashkukor.

Closing

Kelan Gaines was still undeniably the best Voucher card, and also among the best cards in modern right now, so even when against a team that was supposed to counter it, the chance for it to claim the victory was still very high. So if you are not yet trying this card, then you are just putting yourself at a disadvantage. And if you see that cool Lorkus skin that I had, I actually had two of those, so if you want one, you can write me a message to negotiate its price.

Thank you, and see you on the next post!

I'm glad you got your hands on Kelan Gaines. It is such an incredibly powerful unit and one of the metagame cards of modern format. If Kelan is up for selection, your lineup better have an answer to deal with it or be forced to pay the price!

True. having it makes so much difference in the game. It's just thought I bought a Skin for Kelan. I only noticed now that I didn't, so that leaves Lorkus the only one with the spooky skin.

I save my Glint for new cards and energy. I didn't bother getting any of the skins!

Yeah. There will be a market for that soon, so if one wants some, they can use other tokens to save their glint for the reward cards.
