Seven Years of Splinterlands: A Milestone Worth Celebrating

7 Years.png

Last May marked seven years of Splinterlands—an incredible milestone not just for a game, but for a community that has weathered the ups and downs of Web3 and blockchain evolution together. As someone who has been on this journey for a long time, I find myself pausing to reflect on just how rare this kind of longevity is in the crypto space.

Since the early days of this blockchain revolution, we’ve witnessed over 100,000 tokens come and go. The vast majority faded into obscurity, some flamed out spectacularly, and a few have found a way to survive—and even thrive. Splinterlands, in my opinion, is firmly in the winner’s column simply because we are still here. In a space littered with abandoned roadmaps and broken promises, surviving is an achievement in itself.

But it hasn’t always been easy. Like many in the community, I’ve seen enthusiasm give way to burnout. I’ve seen players walk away, and unfortunately, I’ve seen some voices in the community turn bitter. Passion, when left unchecked or unfulfilled, can easily transform into frustration. That’s part of the growing pains of any emerging tech, and Web3 is no exception.

I’ve tried to stay grounded through it all—choosing to remain on the sidelines emotionally when things get heated, though I’ll admit, that’s not always easy. This game has entangled me deeply—not just for the battles, the card strategy, or even the evolving land economy—but because of the people. There’s a sense of camaraderie here. I’ve made friends, joined debates, and collaborated with players around the world. That’s the real value created within Splinterlands.

Maybe we won't ever reach the millions of players we once envisioned. But what we have built is an engaged, resilient community that continues to iterate, adapt, and push forward. That’s no small feat.

So here’s to seven years of battles, builds, and belief. Here’s to the cards we’ve played, the land we’ve staked, and the friendships we’ve forged. Whatever the future holds for Web3, Splinterlands has already secured its place as one of the rare survivors—and I’m proud to still be part of this journey.

Let’s see where the next seven years take us.

You must have some nice old-school cards in that pile. I still have a bunch, but don't play anymore. Congrats on sticking with it!
