Splinterlands | Survival Mode Cooldown Strategy
Hello Splinter Warriors,
The Splinterlands game has become a whole lot more exciting since they introduced the Survival Mode in the game! If you are already playing this game for a while, then recently you may have noticed a new format named ‘Survival’ showing just beside the game’s existing Modern and Wild formats as shown in the screenshot below.
Especially for those who have been playing this game for quite some time and were looking for something new and unique, looks like the game has finally listened to us all and given us a brand new and unique gameplay mode before the launch of GTA 6. With a fresh challenge that it offers, Survival Mode brings a completely new way to play while utilizing your same old splinterlands cards while focusing on endurance, strategy and smart card management, all of which are important factors in this new gameplay format.
The Survival mode is completely different than the other existing formats because, unlike these other 2 game modes, Survival Mode enables you to battle as much as you want without worrying about a limited energy bar like in Wild or Modern format. However, though there is no Battle energy bar, there is still a catch that you have to take care of while engaging in Survival mode. That is when one of your cards is defeated while playing Survival mode, it goes into Cooldown mode. That means you can not use that card again in any other format until the cooldown period ends or you find another way to bring it back.
At first, the survival mode might sound like a disadvantage over the other formats, because once a card is defeated, you can not use this card for a certain period of time, depending on your card level. However in reality, if you think about it, it actually pushes players to think strategically and manage their card collections wisely. So, in this post, Let us try to break it down and figure out how to dominate this new exciting mode!
How to Play Survival Mode
If you already have a decent card collection, playing Survival Mode is easy, but before you jump into Survival Mode, there are a few key things that we should know:
By default, all your cards are automatically included in Survival Mode, which you can view by simply clicking on the Manage button while on the Survival Mode page. But in case you are playing other modes as well and don’t want to use certain cards in this mode, you have the option to disable them.
To disable cards, go to the item page and after filtering your desired cards, just click the "Disable All Survival Mode Cards" button. You can also manually turn off Survival Mode for specific cards based on your requirements.
To help browse through cards based on survival mode, there are also 3 new filters that have been added to the dropdown menu to help manage your collection:
Survival Mode Enabled
- Shows all cards available for this mode.Survival Mode Disabled
- Displays cards not available or excluded for Survival Mode.Survival Mode Depleted
- Lists all cards currently in cooldown mode and can not be used in any format including Survival mode.
These 3 new filters make it much easier to keep track of which cards you can use or have opted out and which ones are in the cooldown period and need time to recover.
Cooldown System Strategy
Unlike other modes like Modern, Wild or Brawl where you can use your favorite cards repeatedly to snatch more and more wins, in Survival Mode you can not rely on them forever. Respecting the gameplay mechanics of Survival mode, When you lose a survival match, at least some of the used cards in that match may be defeated, meaning they will enter intoa cooldown period and be out of commission for a while. This means you either need to have multiple copies of that card as backup or adjust your strategy constantly.
If you stay dependent too much on a single powerful card and it enters a cooldown period, you might find yourself stuck as you can not use it anymore for a while. That is why smart players will start collecting multiple copies of their favorite cards, especially the cheap ones to keep their battle plan going.
Strategies to Win in Survival Mode
Build Depth in Your Collection
The biggest change while playing in Survival Mode is that every defeat temporarily removes cards from your collection. To counter this, you may start collecting duplicates of your most-used and most powerful cards. This way, when one card enters cooldown, you have a backup ready to be used.
Choose Cards Wisely for Each Mode
If you play multiple game modes, be careful about which cards you choose to play with in Survival Mode. Once a card enters the cooldown period, you can not use it anywhere else until the cooldown ends. If you have a card that you frequently use in Modern, Wild, Brawl or in Tournaments, you may consider disabling it for Survival Mode to avoid losing access.
Rotate Your Cards Strategically
Instead of using the same team every battle, you may create a rotation system. Try to reduce the usage of your strongest cards or use a mix with both strong and weak cards, so that they don’t all enter cooldown at the same time. This ensures you always have a solid team ready for battle.
Create Custom Sets for Easy Management
Managing your card collection efficiently is the real key to Survival Mode. One useful trick is to create multiple custom card sets with your own cards for different situations. Then when in need, you can quickly switch between those sets based on which cards are still available.
Adapt Your Battle Strategy
While in other modes, you may want to apply the same tactics in every match. But in Survival Mode, flexibility is very essential. If one or multiples of your best cards are on cooldown, try to find new combinations with your remaining cards and experiment with different lineups. This will not only help you survive longer but also make you a more well-rounded player.
Last but not least, the Survival mode adds a whole new layer of thrill, fun and strategy to Splinterlands. While it might seem challenging at first, it is actually a great way to improve your skills, build new combos, manage your collection better and discover new winning strategies with cards you were not focusing till now. Through strategically planning your playing style, keeping backup copies of important cards and making smart battle decisions with unused cards, you can dominate Survival Mode and outlast the competition than most of the others. So, what are you waiting for?
