Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!

So, another week, another Social Media Challenge. The most exciting thing that happened this week was the launch of the first Chapter of the new Campaign mode, which has probably been awaited for 7 years, as it does a really good job introducing new players to the basic mechanics of the game, and that's an important onboarding tool for any game which wants to grow its player base and reap long-term success. We finally have gotten the tool (a part of a whole bundle of different tools), and now we just need to find the right players for us (a lot harder task undoubtedly). Along with the Campaign mode, a new card set was introduced - the Foundations set.

Let's start this short write-up by having a look at the Campaign mode:

It is accessed from the big forest-themed rectangular button on the Play landing page named... Campaign, duh.

Then you can choose which Book of the Campaign to play. As previously mentioned we currently have available only Book 1 - Waur Medge Academy. Hopefully we won't have to wait for another 7 years to get Book 2 and beyond.

After choosing the Book you want to play, you then can choose which Chapter of the book:

Every time you complete a Chapter, you get some rewards for that. In this first Chapter all the rewards were Foundations cards and some small amount of Glint. The Chapters themselves were not difficult at all. After all this is aimed at people who have no idea what they are getting themselves into but I'm sure as more Books come out, some challenging stuff for seasoned players will also become available.

You can replay each Chapter however many times you wish, of course, you can receive the rewards only ones. We might get some additional incentives to replay Chapters in future Books, who knows. But for now - one time will do, especially given the fact that they are of very low difficulty as already mentioned.

Overall I really like this new addition to the game and I truly believe that this is just the beginning, and we can gradually get a fun and exciting PvE (Player Vs Environment) mode out of what currently is an introductory campaign for brand new players.

Now for the Foundations cards:

They are a totally of 34 brand-spanking new cards. They are completely replacing the "Starter Cards" set which was provided up to now to new players to try out the game and get going. They cannot be combined, sold, delegated or anything else which can be done with the normal cards for now but the team has plans to get them developed in the near (?) future, so they can be leveled and gain additional abilities as any other type of cards.

So, Phase 2 is definitely going to be exciting cause I don't think there's anyone who doesn't like leveling cards and making them more playable. Of course, it has to be mentioned that these cards have been made weaker on purpose, and are not supposed to be meta or better than any of the other cards (I'm sure there will be some exceptions as soon as we can get them to max level) but they are definitely playable for anyone who does not have a good amount of cards yet a.k.a a new player.

Let's have a quick look at the cards for each Element, starting with

Fire:

What's notable is the cost of the Archon - a 6-mana Archon who grants +1 Speed. That's obviously intended, as already mentioned, to make this Archon basically unable to compete against his regular counterparts. That, of course, does not mean that you won't ever be able to win a battle against some other Archon (provided the Foundations set has been leveled in Phase 2 or you're playing at Novice/Bronze level). Other than that you can see there are 3 Common Cards, 2 Rares, 1 Rare Archon and 2 Epic cards. They are all more expensive than normal for their power level and with barely any abilities so not much to discuss right now.

Water:

The Water Archon provides +1 Magic Damage for 6 Mana. There are 6 water cards - 3 Commons and 3 Rares (1 Archon)

Earth:

The Earth Archon provides +1 HP for 6 Mana. There are 7 Earth cards - 3 Commons and 3 Rares (1 Archon) and 1 Epic.

Life:

The Life Archon provides +1 Armor for 6 Mana. There are 6 Life cards - 3 Commons and 3 Rares (1 Archon).

Death:

The Death Archon debuffs the enemy team by removing 1 HP for 6 Mana. There are 6 Death cards - 3 Commons and 3 Rares (1 Archon).

Neutral:

Finally, there are 5 Neutral cards - 3 Commons and 2 Rares.
