Whale for A Day - Day #5

Splinterlands-Header-GIF.gif

Splinterlands has another Social Media Challenge and I thought what better way to write a post about my "Most Remarkable Moment" then to do another Whale For A Day post... ;)

Without further ado I am back at it with another Whale For A Day post. This is my 5th entry into my series and I am sure there will be more (down the road). I keep saying it will be a while until the next post in the series... then I cave and piss away another $100 of crypto to fund my obsession with Splinterlands.

Notice: Please bear with me. I am trying new things out. For instance, I wanted my screenshots to stand out more and be more clear on both white and black backgrounds so I put the Orange border around each screenshot. I am going to keep testing things like this because I really care about how my posts look like and how aesthetically appealing it is. I am going to try to find the easiest method to clean up posts and streamline it for future posts.

$1

Need To Get Money To Play With First

First we send over some Ethereum cause why not. (Ethereum is my 'currency' in web3. I use it to buy things or swap for things. The rest of my Crypto I HODL)

I did some math behind the scenes and I get more DEC if I swap to Hive and then swap Hive to DEC as opposed to swapping ETH to DEC. So that is what I did.

Keeping a few HIVE just in case ;)

$1

Now that we got the funds... Let's start buying stuff!

Buying cards for LAND

First thing I wanted to do was finish building some plots of lands that I purchased in previous Whale For A Day posts. And the best way I found to do that was to head over to Iron Legion's website.

Using this website: https://www.iron-legion.org/splinterlands/production-points/ you can see what is the most cost effective cards to put onto specific lands.

$1

I won't bore you with my nerdyness but what I did do was copy/paste the table of cards for each plot of land. Import that into Excel and then edit and sort to find the best cards for my price point.

First up was my 3 BOG lands and for that I needed "Dark Ferryman" and 3 of them to be exact. Dark Ferryman is a Rare Untamed Reward card with a max level of 8.

$1

So for $20 I bought 3 of them.

$1

Upgrading my LAND

I have land across 3 regions and I did it as strategically as I could. So let's go through each one.

Lunaden

Here I have 2 plots of land. 1 for Grain and 1 for Stone. There is no point in activating my Stone plot without Grain to pay for it, so I need to hurry up and finish my Grain plot.

$1

$1

Adding him more than doubles my production for this plot which is good!

But it also means I need more DEC staked to power him.

$1

And now onto the next Region

Briarwood

(I forgot to take a before screenshot, so this is after but still)

$1

I have 2 plots here as well. 1 Grain and 1 Iron. Both are built but I had nobody working on the Grain farm. So let's fix that!

I needed a Power Core so another 5k DEC spent.

$1

Now I can add my 2nd Dark Ferryman!

$1

And yet again.. more DEC needing to be staked to power him!

$1

I will let my Grain farm accumulate some GRAIN to start and then I will put the Iron plot of land to work as well. (probably in my next Whale For A Day post).

Dryae Tor

This is where I started buying plots so it's my home base. I have over the past few Whale Days... bought unsurveyed plots of land and it was stupid. But here we are.

... stupid Swamps....

But either way I want to get my 2nd Grain plot up and running so that is what I take care of with my 3rd Dark Ferryman!

Before picture of my Magical Bog!

$1

Needed to stake another 4k DEC.. YOLO

$1

After staking the DEC and Dark Ferryman my ETA went from 23 days to 14 days. Which is better and also will be okay Grain earnings when it goes live.

$1

But then I also wanted to start gathering some WOOD from my Wood plot (the initial screenshot showing it already active is another screenshot I forgot to take before I staked the card woops)

I went back to my Excel doc for Forest plots and found that Temple Priest had a good Price per Production Point. So I bought enough to get 1 maxed lvl Temple Priest!

$1

For $5.71 its not too bad. And now we combine to a Max level 8 card.

$1

Then we put him to work at my Forest/WOOD plot!

$1

And while I already had a Power Core at this plot... I did not have the extra 10k DEC :)

$1

Now that my LAND units are updated and applied where I want them it's time to take a look and a snapshot at all my LAND plots.

$1

Buying other Cards

So this is where things go a little off the walls. My bot plays in WILD format and Survival now. But my problem is that I don't have a huge collection of cards and I thought the easiest way to solve this was to pretend Splinterlands was Pokemon Cards. I collect Pokemon cards with the kiddo now (he is my excuse to keep buying Pokemon so deal with it). We open a few packs of a new set (if I can find them for around MSRP) and then I sell my duplicates and use that money to buy up single cards that we are missing so we can hopefully complete a Master Set of that specific set.

So with that in mind I started to buy up semi cheap cards from a few sets where I was missing those cards.

BETA Cards

I bought 13 Beta cards for a total of $1.16 or 1,364.169 DEC

And since that screenshot does a terrible job of showing what cards I bought...

Rebellion & Conclave Arcana

Now I moved onto picking up any Common, Rare or Epic card I was missing from the Rebellion or Conclave Arcana sets.

Chaos Legion

Now we pick up missing Chaos Legion cards. I found 10 that I didn't have so I picked them up for $8.584 or 10,085.771 DEC.

$1

Buying 10 Chaos Legion cards for $8.584 seems crazy considering that Chaos Legion are usually the cheapest set because it was massively overprinted but the cards I picked up were all Epic's or Legendaries.

Archons

Then I got to thinking that I needed to plan smarter. My little bot plays in WILD and Survival, but he basically stops playing in Survival because well I have run out of Archons that are able to fight (not on cooldown). So I need to get more Archons. So what did I do? I bought the cheapest 15 Archons on the market just to have dupes of them and not to level them up.

And 15 Archons for $2.298 was not a bad deal.

$1

Untamed

Now I moved onto a set that I was missing a lot of cards in... Untamed. So I bought 30 cards for $8.579 or 10,071.613 DEC.

Fortune Tickets

I wanted to test my luck with another Tasoshi Drakamoto. So I bought the remaining 5 Fortune Tickets I needed (I already had 5) to enter the Gold Foil Draw.

Needless to say I didn't win the Gold Foil card, but I did receive a consolation prize of a regular version.

Gladiator Cards / Gladius Cases

Like most Whale For A Day posts, while I am going through buying random things I tend to check all corners of the game and that is when I noticed I had enough Merits to buy 2 Gladius Cases!

$1

So that is what I did. Here is my first case!

I will take 2 Rare's any day! And here is my 2nd case.

That one was more blah but I will still take it because I get to upgrade my Gladiator cards now!

I am still fairly newish to Merits and Gladius Cases, meaning I don't have a ton of Gladiator cards so any that I can level up is a welcome task!

Recap

I wasn't tracking the DEC overall I spent because I realized it was a waste of time. I sent $100 of ETH over and swapped basically 98% of it into DEC and I spent about 98% of that DEC. Which is roughly $96.04 worth of DEC I spent on Cards or Land upgrades.

But for fun let's look at where I stand with my Land right now:

Yeah, that makes it looks bad haha because of all those plots that I bought and surveyed and now am pissed. Maybe one day I will run the entire Dryae Tor Wood economy but not today!

so many swamps :P

With how much you have put into land I'm kinda glad I never got into it cause I wouldn't have anything to spend on it, or my deck would be stagnant.
