Fighting Idols - Dipped my toes into a GF Modern Tournament
Prologue
So, I spend a considerable amount of money on Alchemy Packs. I got a nice collection of Gold Foil cards from it, unfortunately not all summoners, but with the GF from Rebellion it's now enough to play a Modern GF Tournament at Bronze Level. Easy, I thought, there won't be too many hardcore players, it's not like there is much to win.
Boy, was I mistaken. In the first (and last round for me) I encountered Lorkus, Thoogen, Tarazkp, EMP-Warden, schachoberhessen - and those are only some of the Top players mingling in that tournament.
At least they were kind of drawn down to my level. More or less. They have GF Tofu and Lorkus, and I have... well... this is my modern gold archon team:
Luckily, the League was lvl 3 common and lvl 2 rare, so I had at least one summoner for each Splinter.
Battle 1 - Elves vs. one of the best content creators on Hive
I actually won this one!
And I'm getting into the CA strategies, step by step. As you can see, I chose Kaylia as an Archon. She gives the Elf-Bloodline (and shapeshifters) the Execute ability, and reduces the enemy's magic damage by 1.
The halfling is still my favorite tank. It's getting tankier by the Venomancer with Shield Ward - a shame that it's an Orc, and not an Elf.
Then comes the strategy - 4 Executers. And one Taunt monster, so the halfling doesn't get hit by magic.
There was only one execute. Most of the time, it was not an elf that brought the enemy monster down to 2 or 1 LP, but the Orc.
Battle 2 - Against my Guild-Leader
Well, not directly. It's one of his scholars I think.
Dragon is great for me since I have more options with Gold-Foil-Cards, as I pulled some from rewards. The Night Reaper is still one of my favorite cards. I tried Thragun as Reach with double attack, and that worked out nicely, too. The Weaver is a staple as healer. Two opportunity monsters, and the magic taunt with extra speed in the end. That extra speed was great to take down the Seer quickly, without getting any backfire.
Battle 3 - A demonstration of Power
I lost this one by far. Just wanted to show how impressive the enemy line-up is, with Tofu, Runi, Hemlig and Riklauniman - all gold foil. That team must be worth around $2000.
Battle 4 - Let's burn!
Another win this time - but partially thanks to luck.
We both chose 2 burning monsters! Honestly, the combination of Conjurer and Blazebeard is becoming one of my favorites. They're both burning already, so the fire will only spread into one direction, though I'm using 2 burning monsters.
In this battle, the Halving-Ability was hard on my monsters, but in the end I made it through. The trick was not to use Bren. His Sneak overrides the Opportunity, and as a legendary monster, he attacks first of the backline monsters - so everyone else will attack the last monster, too, due to opportunity.
Also, the opponents (9 Mio. Collection Power!) Burn spread a little quicker than mine, which did help quite a bit.
Conclusion
I'll do that again. I ended up 4 wins and 6 losses, but it was a lot of fun to scramble through my little cards and fight as a total underdog. I still made 100 SPS off it, spending 200 DEC, so it's a huge positive on the ROI-Side, too.

The tournaments are really competitive. Even more than Diamond Rankd Modern in my opinion. So I think 4/6 isn‘t bad!
I thought the same! Getting 4 wins (and none from a flee) was quite exciting. The bad thing is that it makes me want to collect more gold foil, and those are expensive :-D
That is a great win against lorkus. I just realise now how to counter that strong legendary archon ahaha😊
Sometimes I get lucky... But often it's really hard to beat Lorkus and/or the other legendary RB summoners.
