Reduce GF Frays in Brawls

TLDR:/ Change tier five brawl tiers to be more competitive, eliminating unnecessary gold foil frays and increasing the amount of competitive frays available with variable set combinations to unlock new meta, gameplay and strategy.

Poor timing, its true. SPL just revised the brawl frays for the new release Conclave Arena. But somehow GF frays and the number of GF is never a part of the conversation. We hope to change that.

As a guild leader it is imperative to me that all guild members be able to contribute equally and participate in brawls. Right now, my guild members, and quite a few of the opposing guilds in the space feel punished because they cannot fill or compete in unnecessary GF frays. At a minimum, Tier 5 brawl suggestions to reduce GF frays down to three and add 4 additional set/combo frays to create a more competitive atmosphere.

Poll updated to give people a chance to voice all opinions. Add comments below for further discussion.

Alright, let's cut to the chase. The recent vote for Modern/Wild frays in Splinterlands Brawls highlighted an existing issue: the excessive number of Gold Foil (GF) frays, particularly the seven GF frays (19-25) in tier 5. The Current GF allotment of frays was never discussed during the vote; and with the changes to the rental system, the quality/competitive comps played in these frays is no longer up to par in the highest tier of brawls.

For top-tier guilds in Tier 5, where competition is at its peak, this GF dominance limits strategic diversity and accessibility for many guild members. To address this, a poll is being created to gauge support for reducing the number of GF frays to three for all tiers, with a specific focus on Tier 5.

This isn't about devaluing GF cards, but about creating a more balanced and competitive environment. By reducing GF exclusivity, we can open up more fray slots wild/modern bouts or simply for diverse card set combinations. Imagine frays mixing Core sets (Alpha/Beta), Untamed, Chaos Legion, Conclave Arena, and mini-sets like Dice and Riftwatchers. This would foster new metas, strategies, and tactics, making Brawls more engaging for a wider range of players. (Potentially leading the way to a survival match, best of 9 fights where cards are eliminated as you battle your way through the trenches, lot of details would need to be hashed out for this to even work)

For the health and competitivity of Tier 5 Brawls (and frankly, all tiers!), it's time for a little… rebalancing. Or at least some discussion.

Our proposal is simple and elegant: let's cap the Gold Foil frays at a sensible THREE for ALL tiers, especially the competitive Tier 5. Ensuring accessibility and competition remains peaked in the highest tier for the entire game.

While the recent Conclave Arena fray update didn't address the GF fray imbalance, this poll offers an opportunity for guild members to voice their preferences. Beyond simply reducing GF frays, we can also consider:

  • Augmentation of modern/wild frays available for more accessible competition
  • Specifying desired card set combinations for general frays.
  • Implementing a rotating set variable (every 3-6 months) to refresh the meta and strategic landscape.

Think about it! By reducing the gold foil exclusivity, we open up more fray slots for exciting combinations of card sets.

Conclave Arena, its arrival is long awaited and welcome. But the number of Gold Foil frays wasn't part of that seismic shift discussion in the latest polls. This poll is the chance to address this known imbalance and to shape the future of the Brawl experience.

We're not just asking for fewer gold frays. Imagine a future where every 3 to 6 months, (or longer), the set combinations for the replacement frays rotate to add a fresh fray combination in. This would keep the meta fresh, force us to adapt our strategies, and prevent the frays from becoming stale. It's like adding a surprise ingredient to your favorite recipe – it keeps things interesting!

This initiative aims to empower guild members and encourage Splinterlands to create a more equitable and strategically rich Brawl system. Your participation in the upcoming poll is crucial to making this happen. Let's work together to shape a more balanced and engaging future for Splinterlands Brawls.

With the changes in the rental market and full season rentals, the need for GF changes is becoming ever apparent.

Cast your vote, spread the word, and let's work together to forge a brighter, more balanced future for Splinterlands Brawls! Your opinion matters, and together, we can make a real difference in the arena.

All options include reducing GF frays to 3.

With the replacement frays including:

A/BUntamedChaos LegionConclave Arena
Paired with RiftwatchersPaired with Conclave ArenaPaired with Beta/UntamedPaired with Dice/Riftwatchers

Option 1 would be to eliminate the excess 4 GF frays and replaced with wild frays only.

Option 2 would be to replace the excess 4 GF with the replacement frays above.

Option 3 would be to replace the excess 4 GF with the replacement frays above; however the fray combinations/variations would change ever 3-6 months to ensure meta, strategy and tactics stay fresh with new set combos.

Option 4 to keep things as they are, or a different perspective. Comment for added insight.

(Some perspective, I have played in old gf and new gf after the rental change; the quality and competitive level of fights in these frays has slipped significantly. I would rather see great, accessible fights in rf frays across the board; whether modern or wild, than see a single gf summoner and a poor card placed into a brawl fight just so that guild gets a free win or some free sps).

Some folk have stated they just want to see guilds fight it out, and I agree. I would like to see more accessible frays with higher levels of quality competition instead of free wins being passed out to the guild that can afford to pay to win strat. All guilds would see more participation, gf decks could be honed to the specific frays, and the guilds are still going at it. win-win across the board.

May the best guild win.

Nah, the old votes were just to gather information and data. If you voted in the last, please vote on this to compare for those that want to keep the status quo

I feel like this is not just a Tier 5 issue, but I do think that the T5 guilds are going to be the only ones that substantially benefit from any change to gf frays. For our guild (T4) in particular, the rotation of CL has completed F-ed up our brawls. We don't have enough CA owners to fill rf frays let alone gf frays.

No, I think it is guild-verse wide. This proposal would be to change for all guilds. Not just t5. I just see the consequences in T5 the most cause I play there and mentor a t3-4 team.

I dont think anyone does. That would be the next poll/data to collect. I think a ton of ppl are getting steamrolled with the instant CA rotation. It would have been better to keep some training wheels on until the set has sold enough packs to assume the majority of ppl have access to the cards. Even then, those with modern cards are far and in between.

@davemccoy how do we get this in front of more guilds/guild members?

21 votes isn't exactly hard data to bring to the spl board/committee.

I think @clayboyn would be helpful in getting attention to it. I'm also happy to ask my guild players this Sunday and you should ask other guild from the top players too.

Ye, i have mostly been asking guild leaders to bring the discussion to their teams and see how people feel about it. Sounds good. Ill await clay, though i think he is busy atm.
