Battle Mage Secrets: Briar Patch, Avoiding Thorns
Good day everyone splinterlands community, zactian here. Today I'll blog about another weekly challenge, Battle Mage Secrets, and share my strategy.
What Account Use
I'll play my Scholar Account (IGN: BLTZR-WIZARD-728). I will reveal my primary technique in this rule set Champion/Diamond League level.
Challenge Rule set
Briar Patch is the challenge, in which all units gain the ability of Thorns. Publish by the challenge on the official Splinterlands Hive Blog.
Comment below with your opinions on the potential lineups at this level. Is it effective for this battle ruleset? Let's see and match up with the Briar Patch rule set.

BRIAR PATCH

INTO THE BATTLE:
Rule Set
- Units that use Healing or Tank healing won't be usable.
- All units will gain the ability of Rebirth.
- All units gain the ability of Rebirth.
Recommended summoner to use Armored Up for this match:
Dominating in Damage | Dominating in Debuffing buffing | Dominating in Speed difference |
---|---|---|
- Owster Rotwell | - Thaddius Brood | - Lux Vega |
- General Sloan | - Quix the Devious | - Quix the Devious |
- Prophet Rosa | - Astral Entity | - Avina of the Wolf |
- Underboss Fabino | - Ilthain | - Byzantine Kitty |
- Grandmaster Rathe |
The maximum mana for using summoners and cards in battle is 25. The elements inactive are Fire, and Earth in this battle. I watched the opponent's previous fight and saw that most of their opponents used better cards, certain units were also rather good. I will use Quix the Devious summoner because of decreasing range damage and speed to the opponent, I also want to use Void Dragon for a balanced line up, if the opponent use magic.
Note: I only have limited cards but they are useful in some rule sets and I will try my best to win with existing cards. So if you want a high chance of winning, I advise you to rent or buy useful or stronger cards for most rule sets.

Quix the Devious
- Decreasing opponent Speed and Range damage by 1.

- Combining with water element. This is the best to pick because in a low mana cap, you can get a decent amount of range damage and tank.

Link of the battle: RUMBLE
My Lineup
First position - Cruel Sethropod
- Even if it has no ability it still has a decent amount of Health, Armor, and Damage with only 3 mana costs.
Second position - Tide Biter
- A Second position for Tide Biter supporting damage to the front position and with its ability useful in this battle the True Strike, Reach, and Reflection Sheild. We know that the reflection shield doesn't receive damage if it attacks the Thorn enemy units.
Third position - Void Dragon
- A second tank with Void, Phase, and Flying with a decent amount of speed can have a chance to miss incoming attacks.
Fourth position - Igor Darkspear
- Additional Damage with a chance of applying Stun to the opponent.
Fifth position - Merdhampir
- Additional damage and it can be a tank after my Igor Darkspear executed because of Life Leech Ability.
Last position - Kulu Swimhunter
-Main damage with 4 Range damage.
Regarding the skills that are made ineffective in this battle due to the Briar Patch Rule Set, selecting a useful ability in this battle with a good amount of damage will increase your chances of victory in this type of rule set.

Analyzing Battle
The opponent uses the Lux Vega Summoner, and the majority of their units are rather a bit tanky. It shows that I assumption and line up is quite a good chance to defeat the opponent. It shows Igor Darkspear, Merdhampir, and Kulu Swimhunter are the most common lineup for this rule set so my best bet is to pick Quix the Devious. I relied entirely on chance and RNG (Random Number Generators) to position my unit for both damage and health in the hopes that it would attack first and eliminate the majority of the enemy units. The opponent's positioning was excellent in terms of using Doctor Blight in third position for I think it is a tank to freely attack its range attack team.
Effective or not?
It was close but I managed to win the match with Briar Patch Rule set. Avoid using melee because of thorns😁. The way the fight plays out shows exactly how fortunate the sides are with their positioning. Of course, I love this rule set, with Water and Dragon Element are active then I have a chance of winning the match because I have some Lines in mind😁.
If you would want to use Water Line up, please read over some of my blogs; they could be useful. 😊

Thank You! for being here, coming this far, and supporting me. I hope this will help you in some of your battles.🤗
You can share thoughts and ideas about what could be possible to use in this rule set.

Luckily there is a dragon that can deal with Dr. Blight monster cards that have poison and a good choice of summoner, bro haha
That's what I thought too if the opponent focus only using magic damage that is why I choose Void Dragon and Quix the Devious 😂
haha good job bro. sps is down again, keep up the enthusiasm for the battle :)
i agree wtih duja that void dragon was smart play for dr blight prediction
