Privacy in Peril
This privacy thing is really putting me in confusion. When I think about it, good security practice can make good people, like whistle-blowers, make a better place. Take Panama Papers for example.
But bad people also will benefit from security technology.
I read about how US' gov got the bad guys from getting subpoenas and search warrant to people. It's good that they catch them. But news about them found out security vulnerabilities so they can use it against bad people and don't tell the manufacturer to patch it doesn't feel right too. Neutral and good people will be affected too as they may not be the only one discovering the vulnerability.
What about me? I'm an average person. What do i need privacy security? There are things to say about this. But ill give you an example: bad people are evwrywhere. When gov get a search warrant for a quantity of accounts, sometimes the innocent's account is also revealed. And who can guarantee there is no bad guy in gov that will take advantage from this innocent user data?
Technology is always a neutral two-sided knife. If neutral or good people don't invent and innovate in security, there will be bad people that will advance in this field eventually. So it don't matter if security also enables bad people do bad things, bcos bad people will always take thousand ways to get away with bad deeds.
