Creating Splinterlands-inspired accessories (Eng-Esp)
My first craft inspired by a Splinterlands character is an exciting challenge for me, as I've never created crafts before looking for elements that represent a character, but I couldn't help but resist THUNDERBIRD with its beautiful color palette. This decision was one of those moments when the universe conspires to make it possible, because I just happened to have some stones, earring clips, and foam to honor this character.
So, I invite you to this tutorial where I show you how I made these earrings... Welcome.
Mi primera manualidad inspirada en un personaje de Splinterlands, es un desafío emocionante para mí, ya que nunca antes había creado manualidades buscando elementos que representen a un personaje, pero fue inevitable resistirme ante THUNDERBIRD con esa hermosa paleta de colores, y esta decisión fue uno de esos momentos en los que el universo conspira a que sea posible, porque justo tenía unas piedras, broches de zarcillos y foamis para hacerle honor a este personaje.
Así que los invito a este Tutorial donde les enseño cómo realicé estos zarcillos... Bienvenidos.
- Brown, yellow, and pastel yellow frosted foam.
- Gold metallic cardstock.
- Scissors and liquid silicone.
- Two colored acrylic pieces.
- Pair of earring snaps.
- Iron clothes.
- Foami escarchado marrón, amarillo y amarillo pastel.
- Cartulina metalizada dorada.
- Tijera y Silicón líquido.
- Dos piezas acrílicas de color.
- Par de broches de presión de zarcillos.
- Plancha de ropa.
The design of these earrings, inspired by Thunderbird, meant I wanted to recreate its open wings a bit, using the color palette that most closely resembled the original artwork. So, I drew some free-form shapes I liked with a pen and outlined them with a marker.
Then, using very light pastel yellow foam, I marked and cut out the design. I did the same thing in a lighter yellow, but a little smaller, and repeated it again in a slightly smaller pastel yellow.
El diseño de estos zarcillos, al estar inspirados en THUNDERBIRD quise recrear un poco sus alas abiertas, en la paleta de colores que más se acerca al arte original. Entonces, tracé con bolígrafo unas formas libres que me gustan y las remarqué con marcador.
Luego, en foami amarillo pastel muy clarito, marqué y recorté el diseño. En amarillo más fuerte hice lo mismo pero un poco más pequeño y repetí en nuevamente amarillo pastel un poco más pequeño.

I placed the three pieces of the design on a hot iron. Each piece will first curve outward, but after a few seconds, it will curve downward and bulge slightly. This is the effect I'm looking for using heat on the foam, since this material allows for heat molding. Now, using hot silicone, I glue the three pieces together in order of size.
Las 3 piezas del diseño las coloqué en una plancha caliente, cada pieza primero se va a curvar hacia afuera, pero con pocos segundos se curva hacia abajo y se abomba un poquito, y ese es el efecto que busco utilizando el calor en el foami, ya que este material permite o se moldea con calor. Ahora con silicón caliente pego las 3 piezas en orden de tamaño, una con otra.

For the design decoration, I used the brown frosted foam and the gold metallic cardstock, and I drew some circles in different sizes and cut them out.
Para la decoración del diseño, uso el foami escarchado marrón y la cartulina metalizada dorada, y dibujé algunos círculos en diferentes tamaños y recorté.

Now the fun part is gluing the decorative elements with liquid silicone. The acrylic stone, which is amber in color, and the circles I prepared in the previous step, positioning them as I imagined in my design. Another thing I did was add a little interest to the edges with a yellow highlighter.
Ahora la parte divertida que es pegar con silicón líquido los elementos decorativos. La piedra acrílica que tiene un color ámbar, y los círculos que preparé en el paso anterior, ubicándolos como me lo imaginé en mi diseño. Otra cosa que hice fue darle un poco de interés en los bordes, con resaltador amarillo.

To finish, I placed the earring clips, which are pressure-type, with liquid silicone.
Para terminar coloqué los broches de zarcillos, los cuales son del modelo de presión, con silicón líquido.

For the other earring, do everything the same way, but it's very important to flip the template so that you have one earring on the left and one on the right.
You can see in the following gif that the amber acrylic stone and the gold metallic cardstock circles shine brightly, and this is something I really liked about the materials I chose.
Para el otro zarcillo se realiza todo igual, pero es muy importante fijarnos en dar vuelta a la plantilla para que nos quede un zarcillo para la izquierda y otro para la derecha.
Puedes apreciar en el siguiente gif, que la piedra acrílica de color ámbar y los círculos en cartulina metalizada dorada, brillan mucho y esto es algo que me gustó mucho de los materiales que elegí.
I hope you liked this tutorial. I think I want to make this design in another material because I really liked the concept and the final result. I loved the way they look framing the face.
