Splinterlands Community Challenge - Leveling Up

Hello everyone, this is my entry to the splinterlands community engagement challenge for this week. It's a new year now and we start the community challenges with an interesting one. This challenge is on providing a tutorial on levelling of cards. Let's get into it.

It's very important for all players to try as much as they can to level up their cards or upgrade them. Leveling up your cards usually adds extra abilities to the cards which can make a lot of difference in battle. To level up cards you need to combine a multitude of the same cards. Leveling from level 1 to 2 requires a different amount of cards as leveling from level 2 to level 3 and so on. The number also differes when you are leveling chaos legion legion cards and legendary cards.

Let's upgrade a card.

To do this, first of all select items and click on cards.

In the cards page, you have to find and select the card you want to level up. Let's use Vernari Heathsmith as a case study. We'll look at the stats and how many cards is needed to level it up.

For level 1, you just need 1 of Vernari Heathsmith. But to upgrade to level 2, you will need 5 cards. Meaning you have to combine an extra 4 cards to the 1 you already have. To upgrade to leavel 3, you will need 14 cards in total and 30 and 60 for level 4 and level 5 respectively. The abilities for level 1 to level 5 of this card is same as it has only the void armor ability from level 1 to 5.

Though it doesn't look like much, the stats change for this card as you upgrade. For level 2, you can an extra health. For level 3, you gain +1 shied and for level 4 you gain +1 health and +1 speed in level 5.

When you upgrade Vernari Heathsmith to level 6,7,8 and 9, you gain an extra ability which is the amplify ability. And when you finally max the card to level 10, you gain the thorns ability in aditiion to the other 2 abilities. You will need 400 cards to achieve this and then your stats become 5 speed, 4 shield and 4 health.

So, from this illustration, you see that when you go into battle with someone who has Vernari Heathsmith and you have it too, the level of this card can make a world of difference. If your opponent brings a level 1-5 card and you bring a level 6-10 version of this card, you will have a stronger version with the additional abilities.

When upgrading legendary cards, the number of cards you combine is a way less. Instead of maxing the legendary card at level 10, you max it at level 4. Using Djinn Oshanus to illustrate, you need 1 card as usual to obtain level 1 for Djinn Oshanus and only 3 cards for level 2. You need 6 cards for level 3 and only 11 cards to max legendary cards.

Level 1 of Djinn Oshanus has the void ability, 5 speed, 2 magic attack and a health of 10. Level 2 has 11 health, 5 speed, 2 magic and additional abilityy of phase. Level 3 and 4 have forcefield in addition to the extra magic attack only level 4 gets.

Let's now level up a card.

For this one, I will show how to level up Tatiana Blayde who's a legendary card. Once, you have the cards like shown the image below, you select the cards needed or click all.

Then, click on the "+" or combine cards which you will see when you hover on it. It is green colored as seen. The next thing to do is click on combine as you can see in the image below. Unfortunately, I am one card short so can't level up to level 2. Sign your keychain transaction to confirm.
