A Breakdown of WWE SmackDown This Week

WWEs SmackDown logo
Firstly, I want to say thanks for all the kind comments on my last post. I really look forward to being a part of Hive and I'm kinda blown away by such a great welcome. Thanks all! But that is enough of the babyface promo and time to get to a breakdown of Smackdown on Friday. I'll get back to the wrestling news tomorrow, but I wanna get this post up for Smackdown while it's still fresh. Alright, hot tag. Let's get it!!!

Cody and Randy Opened SmackDown and Yeah It Was Realer Than I Expected

I wasn’t even paying full attention at first cause I thought this was gonna be one of those classic WWE “two guys stare and talk for 10 mins” segments but then Randy starts going in and I was like oh he’s actually saying real stuff that actually has some meat to it. This promo started cutting and chef Randy was straight cooking.

Like he didn’t just run through Cody’s story to check a box, he really said it all, Legacy, Dusty, leaving WWE, coming back, all of it, and it didn’t feel fake. It straight felt like he meant it

Then boom he says he’s comin for world title number 15 after WrestleMania and I swear Cody did that little eyebrow twitch thing like “ok bet” and now I’m thinking yep that’s the match for SummerSlam isn’t it. I'm going to be excited to see what happens after Mania cause Cody could lose to Cena, and I don't really want another Randy Cena program tbh.

McIntyre comes out cause of course he does, man’s been popping outta nowhere lately like he lives under the ring or something but honestly? It works... He’s been on fire lately and now we’ve got like three dudes circling the belt and Mania hasn’t even hit yet. It's looking interesting if Cena wins or if Cody wins.

But yeah back to the promo. This wasn’t fancy and super scripted, it wasn’t overproduced, it was just guys with history talking and it felt real and that’s why it worked.

Also Randy’s voice just hits different when he’s not doing the “slow talk menacing thing” and just being Randy

If they’re setting up Cody vs Orton down the line, I’m here for it, especially if they let ‘em talk like this more often

Street Profits Defend the Belts But That New Theme Song Ain’t It Chief

So Street Profits defended the tag titles against Pretty Deadly (I'm not a huge fan of pretty deadly tbh) and I gotta say the match was actually fire. Which surprised me. It was super fast paced and there was some good clean work, the crowd was into it too which helped a ton, and Pretty Deadly honestly showed out more than I expected. Again, they aren't really my favorite team on the roster, but I enjoyed this match.

But yo… that new theme? No. Absolutely not. It was like really bad!

Just as soon as that thing hit the speakers it was crickets, like actual silence, not even confused cheering just straight up dead air and that’s when I knew WWE dropped the ball on that entrance music... The old one had energy, this one sounds like they pulled it from a 2K CAW menu. It was generic and for real bad.

Anyway back to the match. Montez is still a freak, the guy moves like he’s made of springs and Ford’s got that charisma where even when he’s just yelling random stuff between moves it feels like he’s on, Dawkins held it down too, he’s way smoother in the ring now than people give him credit for

Pretty Deadly had some slick moments too but you knew they weren’t walking out with those belts, this was a feel-good defense and it did what it needed to.

This match was a fun match, and ran at a solid pace. The champs retained but please for the love of all things holy give the Profits a brand brand new theme before Mania cause that song is dragging down their whole vibe and it's just not it.

WWE Is Putting Matches in the Hall of Fame Now and Honestly? Kinda Genius

So during SmackDown they dropped this little bombshell that they’re starting a new thing where not just people — but actual matches — are getting inducted into the Hall of Fame

And the first one up? Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin from WrestleMania 13

Yeah. That match. The double turn. The blood. The visual of Austin screaming in the Sharpshooter. The entire Attitude Era basically being born right there in that moment. That match

Bret and Austin are gonna be there to accept too which is dope, and honestly I can’t even be mad at this idea, cause if you’re gonna start this whole “match HOF” thing, that’s the one to lead with. No debate

Social media’s already eating it up, people saying it’s long overdue and they’re right — that match is a Hall of Fame moment. Like you don’t even need to be a Bret or Austin fan to admit that thing changed the game

If they do this every year and pick one all-time classic? This might be one of the best things WWE’s added to Mania weekend in a while

Rey Fenix Is Coming to SmackDown and I’m Already Hyped

So WWE finally confirmed it, Rey Fenix is making his SmackDown debut next week and I don’t care what else is on the show, I’m watching for that

There were rumors floating around that he might end up on Raw with his brother Penta, which would’ve been dope honestly, but nah they’re sending him to SmackDown solo and I’m not even mad cause that roster could use his energy bad

This dude is one of the craziest high-flyers out there, like legit moves that don’t even make sense half the time, and if they let him go full Fenix and not try to tone him down, we’re about to get some wild TV

I just hope they give him something meaningful and don’t throw him in a 50-50 tag feud for six months, let the man cook

Also, Chicago crowd’s gonna eat it up, that’s a hot city and they know who he is, so it’s gonna hit

SmackDown just got a whole lot faster

Naomi’s Promo Was Fire and You Can Feel the Heel Turn Coming

So Naomi had this pre-taped promo on SmackDown and it wasn’t long or flashy or anything but it hit

She basically said she’s done being nice, done being overlooked, done waiting around for someone to give her a shot and it wasn’t delivered like some over-rehearsed thing either, you could feel it in her voice — she was pissed and honestly she had every right to be

This felt like that moment right before someone snaps, like the “I tried doing it the right way but y’all didn’t respect me” phase that always turns into something dangerous, and I’m ready for it

If they pull the trigger on a heel Naomi and actually let her lean into it, this could be the best version of her we’ve seen, cause she’s been underrated for way too long and it’s about time she just starts wrecking people

And with WrestleMania coming up, I wouldn’t be shocked if she turns on someone big just to make a statement

Either way, I’m watching now, cause this version of Naomi? I’m all the way in

Punk Finally Gets His WrestleMania Main Event and He Was Not Ready for the Emotions

So SmackDown closed with the contract signing between Roman Reigns, CM Punk, and Seth Rollins and yeah, it had all the usual chaos and drama you'd expect, but also one thing I wasn’t ready for — Punk got emotional. Like legit started crying

This whole segment wasn’t just the usual “everyone flips a table and yells” routine, it actually meant something, cause for Punk, this isn’t just another match — this is the match, the one he never got, the WrestleMania main event he’s been chasing for like a decade and a half

You could tell he felt it, the second he sat down and looked around, it was like it hit him — he's finally here, on the poster, in the final segment, the top of the card at Mania, and it broke through the character for a second and you saw the dude underneath

There’s still this mystery about what Heyman’s favor to Punk is, cause main eventing night one wasn’t it apparently, and I gotta admit I’m hooked just trying to figure out what else Heyman could’ve pulled off behind the scenes

Only downside is that parts of the segment felt kinda rushed, which is wild cause this is the main event contract signing and they’ve got three hours to play with — but whatever, what we got still delivered

This feud’s heating up big time and with Rollins and Roman both circling each other too, this triple threat might be even bigger than people expected

Punk’s finally where he always said he belonged, and that makes this way more personal than your average Mania build

That's it for a breakdown of SmackDown. I hope you like it and I'll return tomorrow with even more Wrestling News!
