Round-by-Round Breakdown
#Round-1
The fight opens with a twist. The opponent’s Level 2 Vengeful Monk struck first thanks to better speed and the Opportunity Ability. But that “advantage” quickly destroyed their entire frontline. By targeting my low-HP Spellmonger, they triggered Spellmonger’s -2 Thorns Return Damage, and their Monk immediately paid the price, instantly being eliminated before the round even gained momentum.
My Spellmonger did fall soon after that, but not before shaving off armor from the opponent’s Nim Guard Captain. Losing my frontliner was expected softening their tank was the real goal, and it worked perfectly.

#Round-2
Rise of the MVP with; Spellmonger out, Arcane Curator briefly held the front before my own Nim Guard Captain stepped forward to take command of the battlefield. This round became a direct Nim vs Nim showdown, but despite my opponent’s higher level and better stats, the pressure from my Sorrow Harvester and Vengeful Monk began tipping the balance. My Nim Guard Captain held firm and deflected the incoming attacks exactly as planned.

#Round-3
Here comes the turning point. My Sorrow Harvester, supported by Monk, finally brought down their injured Nim Guard Captain. Just like that, the strongest pillar of their formation collapsed. The enemy Druid attempted to push back with some last-minute attacks, but the momentum had already shifted in my favour. From this point forward, my Nim Guard Captain fully controlled the battle, anchoring the frontline and clearing a path to victory.
Why My MVP Strategy Worked
Even though my opponent had:
A higher-level summoner
A Level 3 frontline
A more dangerous Level 2 Vengeful Monk
Better stats across the board
They failed to counter my Spellmonger plus Thorns setup, which was designed to break their backline threat immediately. And once the Monk fell, their frontline slowly crumbled. And in the chaos, my Level 1 Nim Guard Captain became the hero standing strong, absorbing hits, and leading the charge against monsters stronger than him. This battle was the perfect reminder that: Mechanics smart positioning greater than raw levels and power. Nim Guard Captain did not just participate, he led a weaker team to victory through grit, timing, positioning and perfect synergy.

Nim Guard Captain brings a powerful mix of high armor, steady damage, and exceptional frontline endurance. His ability to absorb pressure, hold his ground, and keep the team stable makes him a natural battlefield leader. Even against higher-level enemies, he stays standing long enough to turn the tide and create openings for the rest of the team to strike.
During my early days playing with rented cards, and over the past few weeks, a few cards truly stood out and carried me on when I was still learning the ropes of Splinterlands. Nim Guard Captain had been my frontline for most of my battles. Bringing me victory upon victory. Playing on Splinterlands particularly on Frontier Mode has been very successful and most thanks to Nim Guard. A true hero indeed.
Thanks for reading this post and see you in my subsequent ones.
