Hello, everyone! I'm back with another entry for the weekly art contest. In this drawing, I'm trying to use bold and thicker lines. I was inspired by the Manhwa To a New Life, a time travel fantasy story by Cheong Dam, It has a good story, but more than that, I love the art style of it even more, especially in the second season.

In this Entry, I draw Xenith Archer. A ranged and a rare monster in Chaos Legion Cards. And used a pose reference from Pinterest.

Art Process

I started with a very rough sketch of the pose to just get a view of what it should look like. Then I added another layer on top of it and draw the parts of the body with basic shapes, I used red to avoid confusion with the lines below. After that, I just connected those shapes while also looking at the reference and was finally able the grasp a little on the pose.

I felt like there really is something off with his torso and it was getting me uncomfortable looking at him. Was it the difference in proportions because I'm using a female reference while I'm drawing a guy here? I had to redraw the torso again and again until I got the idea to utilize his sleeveless shirt and cover it for now (I'll never forget this day, torso. Just you wait!! lol). Besides that the first time I look at the reference, I got worried about the perspectives but I somehow made it, using those basic shapes was really helpful for me. After a few adjustments, I finalized the line art with thicker lines.

I started with the base color, I simply used the bucket tool here. I made his skin darker than that of the original so that his tattoo will pop out later. Next, I add another layer on top and set it to "multiply" for the shadow effect. However, before that, I need to determine the location of my light source to know where to position the shadows. Then added another layer and set it to "dodge" for the highlights.

When I was scrolling through the 25 layers of this drawing I accidentally turned off the base color layer and everything that was clipped on it was also gone, what remained was this. The glow effect on this tattoo looks so cool that I thought should I just post this instead, lol. I was quite obsessed with glow arts until a year ago and this takes me back to those days.
