Social Media Challenge - Well Placed Booby Trap That Helped To Win Seemingly Difficult Matches.

Good day to all, hope that all of you are having a good week so far and having many memorable and interesting battles in Splinterlands. My lifestyle is definitely seeing an improvement with me catching up on my sleep. Today I will be sharing on an interesting match that I played recently that saw me with a win clocked against a much stronger opponent with a well placed "booby trap" that allowed my other cards that gain additional foothold and overcome my opponent.

This booby trap is non other than Spellmonger from the foundation set which is having a 1 health at the level I have it. And this card at 1 health, will be a magnet against those opportunity cards whom will target it but take damage due to the thorns ability it possess.

And when we have something like this setup, having additional armour will help to keep such cards alive longer and when your opponent takes the thorns damage, it is time to retaliate.

Selection Analysis
In today's sharing, we have multiple splinters available but for this case, I will be using fire splinter instead of earth, life and death in view of what I intend to setup for this match.

To lead the lineup, I call upon Fithe Bloodstone, fire dwarf bloodline archon that gives the lineup +2 armour and void to all dwarves. Leading the line and supported by Mana Warden to give it shield ability is Drybone Megalodon which is able to strike hard and enable Mana Warden to strike in normal circumstances with flank but just for this match, reach is auto enable due to the ruleset. Following this pairing, we have Emberguard that reduces the melee attack of opposing lineup by 1 and hits with 2 magic attack. I have planted Torch Vizier which is great in melee lineups and able to take out other cards with ease due to opportunity. And next in the lineup is the card that I like most in Conclave Arcana, Portly Cannoneer which give melee cards additional 1 attack. Last but not the least, it will be my booby trap card Spellmonger that will return damage to melee attackers.

Opponent used dual colour archon Dolfar Daflak at level 4. Leading their lineup is Halfling Refugee which is really good value and offers good tanking as well. Next in line is a Chaos Golem that can strike real hard and have strong survivability. Opponent had 3 opportunity cards and of the 3 of them, 1 even had ambush. Looks like opponent really wanted to strike all my weakest link and the slowly path its way to victory. And to ensure they got more firepower, opponent also used Portly Cannoneer to gather 1 more melee attack.

2 very different strategies, and let's get right on to the round by round synopsis to see how each strategy unfolds.

Round by Round Synopsis

Round 1 - Things got on to a fiery start with both lineup containing fire splinter cards. In the round, I saw 3 strikes onto Spellmonger and each got their piece of thorns before Spellmonger fell. And Spellmonger did what it needed to do with one card from my opponent's opportunistic trio falling to Torch Vizier after getting thorns attack. Halfling Refugee also feel to the strong barrage it received from the front.

Round 2 - Opponent Torch Vizier was cleared out quickly and with the frontal barrage, we managed to take out Chaos Golem and the fatal strike came from Portly Cannoneer though it received 1 damage returned. We are off to a strong advantage after this round wrapped up.

Round 3 - Torch Vizier cleared opponent's Portly Cannoneer while Drybone Megalodon land the finishing blow on Mad Ogre Anarchist. Everything cleared we came on top victorious!

Battle Summary
I think in this match, there are a few elements that see the match coming to my lineup's advantage. The armour from Fithe Bloodstone was instrumental to give additional survivability to the cards while having a Spellmonger right at the tail with that additional armour wrecked my opponent and their plans to clear out low health cards.

Though being a foundation card, Spellmonger come out very good in rank battles and become an important piece when planning for some ruleset and potential lineup that opponent might field.
