Social Media Challenge - Collateral Damage - Just Hands Off And Let Your Opponent Hurt Themselves

image.png

Prelude
Good day to all, hope that all of you are having a good week so far and having many memorable and interesting battles in Splinterlands. My lifestyle adjustment had been rather good and I did manage to catch back some rest and feeling less tired than when I was in a burn out state. Today I would like to share a matchup that I had recently and it was on a ruleset that was recently released, Collateral Damage. Initially, I tried a couple of matches and find that I struggle because I ended up damaging myself way too fast and lost such matches. However, over time I manage to use a new strategy to win such matchup and here is one of the matches which I deployed this strategy.

Collateral Damage

This ruleset basically gives reckless to every single card in the lineup. Then what is Reckless?

Each successful attack also deals 1 damage to adjacent allied units.

So with this crazy ruleset, it is essentially seeing more damage infliction on self which can just wreck the whole lineup, unless there is Pain Forge which gains attack by being inflict damage through friendly fire.

However, when we do not have cards with pain forge, how can we do well in matches with this ruleset? Let's head on to today's sharing.

Selection Analysis
In today's sharing, I will be using a Frontier Ranked match for showcase. We have 3 splinters available for selection - Life, Earth and Death. And the decision on Splinter came from who has more cards that has no attack. In this case, I picked death splinter which I will be able to use 2 non attacking cards.

To lead the lineup, I call upon Thalgrimore, death foundation Archon that give -1 health to all opponent cards. To be the tank, I choose Spellmonger as I expected melee attacks coming from the front, and the thorns from Spellmonger will come in handy to shave off additional health from those melee attackers. Next is Arcane Curator which has backfire, so if any attack fail to hit it, damage will be return to the attacker. And next in the lineup is a card that if trapped in the middle, will be unable to attack, Savage Butcher and finally to wrap up the lineup, it will be New Beluroc Aegis which has taunt and will not be able to attack when not in the front. You can see, all the cards chosen are latent cards, meaning to say waiting for others to attack it.

Opponent used by earth foundation archon, Aurelia. There is a similarity in using Spellmonger to lead the lineup and hope for thorns to some damage. However, opponent had 3 attackers that can attack right from the start due to reach, opportunity and another being a magic attacker which will not be bounded by position. The cards used are Mad Gearhead with the reach, Vicious Quilliun with the opportunity and finally Glimmermancer with the magic attack.

2 different strategies, one with a desire to go out to strike hard while on my end, I am taking a backseat and hoping to watch how my opponent will self inflict damage before I start picking up the scraps.

So let's get right on to the round by round synopsis to see how each strategy unfolds.

Round by Round Synopsis

Round 1 - A much tapered down round with no casualties but from the way it is, opponent cards are already getting damaged while only my taunt and tank gotten some damage.

image.png

Round 2 - And finally we have our first casualty which is the Mad Gearhead from my opponent side whom had lowered health due to the collateral damage and also receiving some thorns damage. But I also noted that more cards on my opponent end had further lowered health.

image.png

Round 3 - After consistent attacks from my opponent's cards, finally my New Beluroc Aegis finally fell. More cards on low health.

image.png

Round 4 and 5 - With all kinds of damage inflicted, we are now down to final card on opponent side which will give me a scare because it will be able to push through my attackless card.

Round 6 to 9, Glimmermancer push through my Arcane Curator but was then disposed off by my Savage Butcher, bring the match to a close and a win for me!

Battle Summary
This is quite a fun match especially at the earlier stage where my opponent just keep inflicting damage on its cards with me just waiting to pounce at the end when the cards were more of less cleared out.

But something to remember is that, we cannot just leave it to cards with no attack, you will still need something to finish the job at the end when all the side cards have been cleared off, otherwise you will still lose the matchup because opponent's last card will bulldoze through your lineup.

Wrap Up
Thank you all for dropping by the post and walking through with me on the sharing on this match where a hands off situation to let opponent self inflict damage then clearing them out to win the match which had a Collateral Damage ruleset.

That was indeed fun, too many units attacking from behind costed your opponent the win
