Community Engagement Challenge: Ruleset Rumble

image.png

Prelude
Hi all, good day to all of you. It's time again for Community Engagement Challenge. Today's topic will be looking a ruleset rumble where strategy, go to cards and lineups will be discussed. I do have a specific match that can showcase all the 3 ruleset that was being included in this challenge but the match I had but unfortunately my opponent's lineup didn't fully make it a good match replay. But I will use that lineup selection to discuss on my strategy so that I can give the community a glimpse of how to setup that lineup to thrive and do well when encountering such a combination of rulesets.

Ruleset Rumble
The three rulesets that are being listed out for the challenge are:

  • Little League
  • Up Close and Personal
  • Fog of War

When you see such a combination, the first thing that comes to mind is that, you have 2 collection restriction ruleset which already chew away big chunk of your available selection.

  • You cannot play cards that are above 4 mana
  • You can only play cards with melee attack

And to make matters worse, the melee cards available to you will have sneak and opportunity removed and it does look like it is a further reduction to the selection. Hands and legs are bounded to a much streamlined list.

Working With Constraints
Since we are bounded, we have to work our way around with whatever we have left.

  • A strong tank with a reach card becomes very important. By having a strong tank and a card with with reach will allow you to strike 2 times instead of 1 by the tank at the position. So when you setup a lineup, do lookout for cards that have reach and field them.

  • Double attack cards will be good here as well. There are not many especially when in Little League, but Phlegmunculus from earth splinter is a good choice to include since it has both melee and range attack.

  • Charge ability is a gem in such a ruleset. With no opportunity and sneak, this is the ability to go to as it allows melee attack to strike at any position. And this becomes a very important ability when we are met with such a combination of rulesets.

If you've noticed, what I am trying to emphasize here is to gather additional attacks and not limiting to 1 hit per turn only by the tank card alone.

Reach, double attacks and charge will enable you much more value to land more hits in a turn and bring you more value to clear out your opponent faster than how they can clear you.

So let's look at how a match setup is like.

Lineup selection:

Halfling Refugee takes up the tank role which is a cheap and good low mana card with good stats. It is followed by Fenmor Platypus which has reach for that extra attack. Next will be Halaran Huntress which has charge and allows her an additional attack from within the lineup. Phlegmunculus is next in the lineup with the double attack in the form of a range attack. The remaining 2 cards are fillers just in case the frontline got cracked and I do not have any other available cards that suit this combi ruleset.

Matchup:
Due to the lack of cards in my opponent's lineup, the match went on super quickly and ended in 2 turns. A few factors that allowed this to end quickly:

  • Opponent only had 1 attack, sneak attacker no longer have sneak
  • I have 4 attacks instead of 1 from my opponent.
  • I had a much bigger lineup than my opponent

It could have ended even quicker if I did not miss one attack. This is a crazy ruleset combination and certainly, even for myself, I do feel a little lacking and struggled a little when putting up the lineup. And with Conclave Arcana, do capitalize all the bloodline advantage to see across different splinters, what you can add to your collection and get more advantage over your opponent for the rulesets.

Wrap Up
Thank you for coming by my post and reading on how I manage and thrive in such a ruleset combination. Hope the tips in my sharing will be able to do you good as your journey through the ranked battles and brawls. All the best in your battles and have a good day!
