Battle Mage Secrets: Reverse Speed - Snail's Glory Day

Prelude
Hi all, hope all is well for you and it is time for another Battle Mage Secrets. Last week, we looked a ruleset which restricted half of our collection by only allowing odd mana cards to be played. Today, we look at a ruleset that is of no stranger to most Splinterlands players, as it has been there at least since I started playing Splinterlands.

Ruleset Spotlight

Reverse Speed

Description:

• Units with lower speeds will attack before units with higher speeds. Attack Accuracy based on speed will also be reversed.
• Units with Bloodlust will increase speed after killing a unit.
• Avoid using Slow as this will help your opponent.

What thrives with this ruleset?
On this ruleset, this is where all the slow stuff do really well.

Swiftness and Slow are going to be your top taboo for this ruleset. Altering speed to become relatively faster is going to hurt you. So previously cards like Creeping Ooze, Baakjira and Time Mage are actually going to give you bad buff and make you start hitting a little later than your slower opponent cards. Do note, please do avoid using Summoners such as Kelya and Quix whom are both can alter speed.

The next category of things that we need to avoid will be the stat boosting kind of abilities. And these abilities include Blood Lust and Martyr of which both will give you an overall stat boost and with that your speed get boosted which is not such a good thing.

There are big array of low speed melee cards available and they should be in your consideration for this ruleset. E.g Sand Worm. But because nowadays, we are in Modern, so no more Sand Worm, can consider cards like Terraceous Hulk if you have or even the good old Disintegrator.

With all the considerations of abilities and also what cards to use/avoid, let's head right on to the battle.

With these in mind, let's start to talk about the battle proper.

Splinter	Mana Cost	Position	Reason
Obsidian	4	Summoner	Simple Magic boosting summoner, with no form of speed alteration but makes the mages of the lineup stronger.
Terraceous Hulk	11	1st	Planned tank for the lineup with slow speed and Void Armour. Even better is that it has Taunt to attract all the attack towards it.
Bramble Pixie	7	2nd	Hard hitting reach attacker which is slow but good for this matchup.
Queen Mycelia	4	3rd	Another slow card that gives Protection to the whole lineup and giving them even more armour.
Goblin Psychic	6	4th	Slow tank healer to heal up everything in front of it and having slightly higher magic attack.
Spirit Hoarder	3	5th	Yet another slow card that has Triage to heal up the tail card after first tank falls and change to the rear taunt tank.
Mycelic Slipspawn	9	6th	Rear taunt tank that absorb attack once the front taunt tank falls.

Prediction before pressing rumble
Looks like my opponent got almost everything wrong.
Xulax is a Gladius card which has blood lust and will grow bigger with every card that it kills. In general, everything else in my opponent lineup are having speed 2 and above. With this two portions that is misplayed by my opponent, the chances of me winning is rather high because with what I planned, I will be the one to strike first and get some advantge. I avoided Gladius cards or even Martyr cards to ensure I can still remain at the driver seat in terms of striking first.

Battle Synopsis

Round 1, Match start, assault all went towards Xulax and before opponent's lineup started their attack, Xulax fell to the massive barrage from my side. Terraceous Hulk only had its armour shave off, no damage to its health. Front facing now is Will-O-Wisp which has no attack even after weapons training but being train on range attack, at first position it is of no use.

Round 2, Similar fate, barrage continues and now everything landed on Will-O-Wisp and opponent only started when the barrage completed. And again, facing my lineup at front line is the Berix Snakeye which cannot attack because it is a range attacker.

Round 3, This is definitely a repeat situation with now Berix Snakeye as the victim, but now my Terraceous Hulk is finally drained to 1 health.

Round 4, Wow, with all the slowness I have, I manage to clear this round with 0 hits landing on my lineup because I cleared both Riftwing and also Revealer.

Round 5, This round was a wrap up where the lineup just disposed off the Dhampir Stalker which couldn't actually attack at all and remained a sitting duck. A victory secured in the nicest way!

Post Battle Summary
With opponent making a blunder in using high speed cards, this essentially become a walk in the park for me. And most amazingly, my whole lineup was kept intact with no casualties.

Did my strategy work? Yes, the strategy total smashes it. My lineup effectively was so slow that it took over the whole gameplay where everyone just strike first before opponent can return. Other than Mycelic Slipspawn which is at speed 2, everyone else was speed 1 and just wreck opponent lineup fully without any mercy. Every single 1 speed card all had their purpose in the lineup as well due to the abilities.

What's the Battle Mage Secret?

Today's Battle Mage Secret is simple. Be a snail when you see the snail icon appearing in your ruleset. When you do so, you will see how wonderful your slow cards have become.

Picking the right summoner is important too. My opponent today made a mistake and used the wrong summoner which speed up his cards and ended up becoming even slower.

When you have bulk of the team at speed 1, you know victory is more or less in your hands.
