Reaching my goal of owning over 10k+ of SPS

I've recently reached my goal of owning over 10k+ of SPS. Even though $1.5k is a decent amount of money, this doesn't seem that much compared to the whales out there. So, how is it even possible to be in the Top 1% will that amount?

When we look at the Richlist "Total SPS", the number of players listed is 319k. My rank being #3,097 would theoretically put me in the Top 1%. However, there is a catch. The bots & players on a budget probably don't own much SPS, if at all. And, they are currently the majority.

Then, I got curious. So I also glanced at the other Richlist "Staked SPS" on Peakmonsters. In this list, the number of players was way smaller: 94k. I would argue that those are players who are more active or, at least, believe enough in Splinterlands to have some skin in the game.

But even though, I was still #2,866 in this list, which would almost put me in the Top 3%. I recognized a few names up there, like @bravetofu, @marianaemilia, @azircon, @jarvie, or @michealb, and I am by no means at their level. I couldn't help myself but wonder if this was concerning.

To be fair, I don't really know. I am EITHER still considered an "early adopter" even though the game has already been running for over three years. OR, there is simply not enough interest in the space at the current time. I like to believe that it is a bit of both.

A few things that came to mind

The first thing is: are those lists reliable?

The second is that I think I got lucky because I was able to dollar-cost average into SPS between $0.14 and $0.10, which was near the bottom (at least, for now). Consequently, I ended up spending all of my YOLO Investment Budget at the right time.

Others, with equal conviction in this governance token, might have started to dollar-cost average into it way earlier than me. If I had entered earlier, I would have never been able to gather that many SPS with the budget I had in mind.

Final words

In the end, a part of me hopes that I won't be that "high" on that list for too long, this would mean that Splinterlands has succeeded in bringing more players with consequent capital into its ecosystem, which would benefit every player already committed to the game. The other part of me hopes that I will find ways to keep increasing my assets to keep up with the players up there!
