Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenge: Grund

Introduction

This week's battle challenge promotes Grund, the Earth Double-striking Giant with Trample at gold level and above! With the release of the legendary summoner Immortalis that grants Void and Shatter, Grund became a force to be reckoned with.

A few weeks ago Grund's price was hovering around 0.85$ (at the time when Chaos Legion set was valued at 3.200,00$) and today's price is almost doubled (Chaos Legion set is valued at 5.350,00 $ currently).

It is one of the cards that I never bought solely because I don't use Earth element almost at all. I have one BCX that I opened in a pack and decided to keep it.

To complete the Weekly Battle Challenge I decided to rent a level 4 Grund, which cost me around 11 DEC a day. What a deal!

Since I don't usually play Earth element I had to use Grund with Quix the Devious - my favorite summoner for its versatility from Chaos Legion set.

In today's battles, I managed to include Grund in 2 battles which I'm going to share below!

Battle Ruleset

The first thought that came to mind was using Pelacor Mercenary since it ignores both Earthquake and Poison damage with Flying and Heal abilities. The rest of my team included Djinn Chwala since poison damage triggers enrage, my strongest Dragon fliers, and Grund due to the Opportunity ruleset.

Conclusion

Unfortunately for me, my opponent chose a better option in Earthquake + Poison ruleset since Uriel the Purifier and Adelade Brightwing dominate that combination. I thought that Grund had Cripple which would help against the Angel, but that ability becomes available only at the highest level. It's also worth mentioning that Flying + Blind combination made my melee monsters miss way more than I would've liked.

Battle Ruleset

The above rulesets allowed me to include Grund once again since I was eager to show a winning battle for the Weekly Battle Challenge.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, my opponent used level 1 cards in the gold league, and I could easily overwhelm the opposition with my leveled deck.
