Hi Everyone,

are you tired of reading success stories, cool strategies and random battle posts for splinterlands? Are you maybe more interested in reading about others mistakes in the game to have a lough an avoid them yourself? This might be worth a lough for you.

This is the fourth and probably last post in this series before I move to a new topic. Please start with post 1,2 and 3 to get the whole picture:

My Splinterlands story started on Nov 15 which was 14 days ago without any clue on how to earn and how to play. You might say the smart thing would be to watch videos and read all these cool guides here in the community after using an affiliate link that would set you up with a decent amount of starting DEC.

This would be quite a boring post if this was my story 😅

Mistake #13: I did not watch my battles and did not learn anything from them

It`s all just luck if you win or loose, right?

Mistake #14: I did not take into account that people will cancel rentals and increase prices at season end

We made a rental contract. Why would someone cancel it?

Mistake #15: I did not understand the difference between selecting cards for rent for their collection power or for their utility in battle

Why should there be a difference in usability for cards between collection power and utility in battle?

Take-Away for new Players:

  • Always watch your battles play out in the beginning and try to understand why something happened.

Look at this battle for example

I won this match. But the reason I won is that the combination of my Tank catching all the attacks combined with my healer managed to outlast my opponents tank and afterwards was only clean up. If I had no healer, this game might have gone differently.

or have a look at this

I lost this one because my tank was destroyed too quickly by having too low health and my healer could not really effect the battle

  • Be aware that a lot of players tend to cancel your long-term rentals right before season ends because then they can charge you 2-3x the previous daily rental price during this day. If you rely on rentals to stay in the higher leagues, try to contact the other party beforehand to clarify if you can rely on them not to do that or if you can reach a deal.

  • At the beginning of the season rental prices are lower and you might be able to get some good battle monsters to increase your Rating. I would recommend finding a balance between battle strength and collection power and establishing a connection to the person you are renting from to avoid the last minute cancellations.

  • Some cards have a really high battle utility and a very low collection value. Like Mylor Crowling as a Summoner or Sea Monster. But this cards can easily help you win some battles. I recommend watching some of the detailed beginner guides to get an understanding of the monsters currently viewed as good battle additions.

  • Likewise there are cards with low battle utility and high collection Value. I recommend using Peakmonsters and looking for CP/DEC as a good guideline on cheap collection power. The more collection power per DEC you get the better.

The rental topic is obviously a lot more complex than I presented it. You might want to look at a couple in-detail explanations of various topics:
