Stealing the Show in a Party (Not in a Good Way)

Have you ever been given money because you acted or looked like a poor kid? It actually happened to me at a wedding I attended.

It was on a Monday, and everyone present were with smiley faces and genuine happiness for the bride and the bride-groom. We had actually just finished with the reception segment, of which as a good sleeper that I am, I slept all through and were told to march down to the venue for the main white wedding.

I was amongst those that walked as fast as possible, so as to secure a very nice position, for easy receiving of the food and small chops that was going to be shared later that day. Few minutes later, the programme started fully, with lots of dance groups and comedic acts, however my focus wasn't even in any of these...I was waiting for the best part(item-7), so as to unleash my eating skills. Minutes turned to hours and it seemed as if the food sharing wasn't even the next 4 in line...to save myself a bit, an imaginary turkey was employed to do the trick...

I was already lost in my imagination, detaching the layers of this turkey mercilessly, that I didn't even notice when the sharing of food was announced.

Well, in no time, food had circulated the entire auditorium, and one of the ushers dropped mine right in front of me, the smell forcing me out of my imagination, to a plate filled with rice, and turkey, just as imagined before. Without much talk,I devoured this food and Within minutes I was done with the food, hoping to receive more as the program progressed, even though I knew the possibility of that happening in this particular wedding was 1.12% (don't ask how I did the math).

Me still very hungry even after the first plate was contemplating whether to secretly meet one of the ushers, who has been looking towards my direction, to explain why I was still hungry and probably make him see 6 reasons why he should give me a second plate...well, I tried my best to remain chill and give off that big boy vibes, and so I didn't approach him. But then shortly after thinking about how to get more food, a young well dressed man probably a Tiv man in his early forties, came towards my table, and sat just opposite me( still on same table)...as a good boy i already was, I greeted him warmly, and continued to salivate secretly as I saw others still eating.
But shortly after, I sensed that same usher walking closer towards my table with food and I was already smiling and waiting patiently to receive the food. Actually, he gave me the food and I actually thanked him and shook him severally, to show my appreciation, even though I could sense confusion on his face (what mattered most at that moment was the food which was in my hand)....this usher allowed me to thank him severally, and eat a spoon from the food, before tapping me, and explaining that the food wasn't meant for me, but for the man who was sitting opposite me.

With so many permutations and combinations (confused if I should still pass it to the man or not), I quickly made up my mind seeing all eyes around were on me and passed it over to the man, with embarrassment written all over me. I tried explaining to both the usher, and the man with a very calm and confused smile, but that was more like medicine after death. Unknown to me, my action sent the wrong message, which was that of a poor child who hadn't eaten since the night before lol...me that ate a bowl of rice before coming for the wedding.

In no distant time, people around began to advocate for me, and urge the ushers to bring more food for me. They even went as far as dropping money on me thinking they were donating to a homeless kid. well, it wasn't their fault actually i was the one being unnecessarily greedy/hungry...I tried to explain that I wasn't one, but perhaps my previous action spoke way louder than my voice, and as the attention towards me increased, I had to stylishly run from the wedding location leaving the money behind.

Thanks For Reading.

Embarrassment on the semi-highest level!

I'm imagining how you felt and putting myself in your position when they were giving you those pitiful looks.
God abeg😂

Wow! Just wow! I don't want to begin to imagine how you felt on realising that the food wasn't meant for you but for the man sitting next to you...😱 Lolz! That wasn't nice at all the usher would have left the food for you and then bring another for the man to avoid embarrassing you.
