Halloween Skins and Reward Cards
The People's Guild returned after a six-week break, welcoming back Dave McCoy and discussing the new Halloween skins. Dave explained that there are 13 skins available in the Glint shop, ranging from 500 Glint to 20,000, and 4 spooky summoner/archon skins in the Ultimate Chests, which will be available in the next 24 hours. The team also discussed the return of tradable reward cards and the dilemma players face with choosing between purchasing Ultimate Chests now for haunted skins or waiting a week for new reward cards.
Ultimate Chest Release and Updates
The group discussed the upcoming Ultimate Chest release, with Dave McCoy explaining that the older version costs 4,500 Glint and offers better odds for Rebellion cards, while the new version costs 10,000 and includes more cards. The chests will be available until November 4th, and Dave mentioned @beaker007 had created a site using the API to track how many have been pulled. The discussion also covered the reintroduction of tradable reward cards, including gold and black foil versions, and the group shared memories of past card sales and market dynamics.
Game Reward System Overhaul
The group discussed upcoming changes to the game's reward system, including new chest mechanics, potion effects, and the introduction of fortune draws. Dave McCoy explained that the new system aims to balance rewards between players and protect the game's economy, with changes to unlock costs and the addition of unbinding scrolls. The fortune draws, inspired by Frontier Mode, will offer a chance to win rare and valuable cards, with participants needing a spellbook and the option to pay 125 DEC for entry. The group expressed excitement about these changes, particularly the return of more valuable and marketable card moments, which they believe will help hook players for the long term.
Raffle Card Market Strategy
Dave McCoy addressed concerns about flooding the market with raffle cards, explaining that they don't contribute to conflicts, deck debt, or collection power, and their value is determined by market demand. Bjangles expressed excitement about the new era and praised Dave's leadership for being open to change and listening to the player base. Dave noted that while some initially criticized Frontier Mode, complaints have decreased, and the mode continues to be popular, with two new cards added and more planned.
Black and Gold Foil Card Success
Dave McCoy and FatJimmy discussed the recent introduction of black and gold foil cards, which have been well-received by players. They noted that these cards are more accessible to new players and offer a chance to earn rewards without needing to understand crypto. Dave emphasized that the print limits for gold foils are low, making them valuable for collectors. Bjangles highlighted the success of Frontier Mode cards and predicted further developments in reward systems for players. Dave concluded that the game caters to a diverse range of players, from casual gamers to collectors and adrenaline seekers, by offering various card types and rewards.
Black Foil Auction Format Review
The team discussed the recent Black Foil Arcane Auction, which introduced a new bidding mechanic allowing extended bidding times and multiple snipes, resulting in an exciting and fair bidding process. Dave McCoy confirmed the success of the auction format, noting that participants enjoyed the extended engagement and the opportunity for competitive bidding. Bjangles and FatJimmy highlighted the need for feedback from participants to refine the system further. The conversation also touched on the weekly fortune draw system, with Dave McCoy explaining its mechanics and the potential for future adjustments, such as rolling over uncompleted wins to the next day.
SPS Staking and Strategy Discussion
The group discussed the new staking requirements for SPS and the option to rent SPS to meet these requirements. They explored how players might adjust their strategies, including renting SPS, using it to buy cards, or focusing on earning enough SPS through gameplay. The conversation also touched on the upcoming mini-set and its potential impact on players' decisions to stake SPS.
Survival Mode Rework Discussion
The team discussed the upcoming survival mode rework, which will allow players to use cooldown cards exclusively in survival mode while still participating in ranked tournaments and brawls. They agreed that this change would create new opportunities for gameplay and provide a more accessible entry point for new players, particularly with level 1 cards. The team also touched on the SPS rental market, noting that while improvements to the interface are not on the immediate agenda, the current system is functioning adequately for now.
Market Opportunities in Buyer's Market
Dave McCoy discussed the current market situation, explaining that lower prices create a buyer's market where sellers are more numerous than buyers, which he views as a normal and positive development. He noted that DEC prices being below 60% of peg is not concerning, as it allows for better purchasing opportunities, and he shared his personal experience of buying cards cheaply during previous market downturns. Bjangles and FatJimmy joined the discussion, with Bjangles highlighting a significant purchase by JeffOpensCards and FatJimmy referencing a quote about buying when there's blood in the streets.
Splinterlands Development and Silver Prices
Dave McCoy and Fat Jimmy discussed the recent rise in silver prices, with McCoy emphasizing the importance of understanding the underlying economic factors. They also talked about Splinterlands' current position and future developments, including new modes, cards, and avatars. Bjangles expressed optimism about the game's prospects, citing the team's recent efforts and the potential impact of new reward systems. McCoy teased some upcoming features, including a new PvE mode called "Gauntlet," and addressed concerns about the rotation of Rebellion cards, reassuring that alternative play options are being considered.
Addressing Business Challenges and Change
Dave McCoy discussed the challenges of addressing obstacles in business and emphasized the importance of fixing issues rather than ignoring them. He noted that while some community members express negativity about the platform's changes, he tries to understand their concerns and doesn't hold animosity towards them. Bjangles defended the community's reactions, attributing them to past experiences with slow changes, and expressed support for the ongoing cultural shift. Dave acknowledged that while he is the face of these changes, the team is collectively responsible for implementing them, and he encourages those who wish to sell their assets to do so quietly rather than trying to convince others to follow suit.
Parallel's Performance and Content Plans
Dave McCoy shared insights about Parallel's recent mini-set sale, noting that while it sold out, their total revenue was only $198,000 compared to Splinterlands' $2.5 million, highlighting that Splinterlands is performing better than perceived. The team discussed the temporary Bloodlust ability for Halloween, and Jimmy revealed plans to launch a new content creation venture focused on gameplay and land action, while remaining involved with People's Guild. Bjangles announced they are planning a special Episode 150, inviting other content creators to collaborate under the TPG umbrella.
Spoilerlands Card Expansion Plans
The group discussed upcoming content for Spoilerlands, including new cards for Frontier Mode and human-only leagues, as well as the introduction of jackpot cards which will be exclusive and limited in quantity. Dave McCoy confirmed that these jackpot cards will include new designs not available in packs or rewards sets, with plans to release multiple types ranging from common foils to black foil legendaries. The team also mentioned a Town Hall meeting scheduled for 34 hours after their current discussion, and FatJimmy's return to the community after his ban was lifted.
