Welcome back to the People's Guild.
This week it's the Jimmy & Jangles show as we catch up on a wide range of topics — from the launch of Foundation Cards and the recent spike in new players, to DAO discussions around Pickle card acquisitions, to broader conversations on the game’s economy, meta and market dynamics. As always, we mix in a little music, some community banter & a look ahead at what’s coming next.
Enjoy the episode!
Foundation Cards Boost Player Engagement
Fatjimmy and bjangles discussed the recent release of Foundation Cards and Campaign Mode, noting its success with a significant increase in spell book purchases. They attributed this growth to Ygg's promotional efforts and new player engagement. The hosts reflected on the experiment of targeting Web 3-savvy players and considered the experiment's implications for improving the game's accessibility and retention. They also mentioned a doubling of new daily players in recent weeks, suggesting broader efforts are contributing to the game's growth.
Guild Names and Music Experiences
Fatjimmy and bjangles discussed various guild names and their personal experiences with music, including cover songs and live performances by artists like Keller Williams, Roger Waters, and Prince. They shared anecdotes about musicians' stage presence and discussed the evolution of artists' public images. Fatjimmy mentioned creating a guild called "Jimmy" for his alts, and they briefly talked about the potential for a theme song to increase guild enrollment.
DAO Pickle Card Acquisition Plan
Fatjimmy and bjangles discussed the potential acquisition of Pickle cards for the DAO using SPS staked tokens, which could result in approximately 2,000 cards. They explored the idea of developing an auction house to support the project financially and sustainably in the long term. They agreed to move forward with a proposal to buy Pickle cards, which Fatjimmy planned to initiate with the DAO.
Card Purchase and Revenue Strategy
Fatjimmy and bjangles discussed the purchase of 2,000 cards for 300,000 DEC, considering using the DEC for pickle cards and exploring revenue distribution between the company and the Dow. They noted strong sales performance, with nearly 90,000 starter packs sold and summoners priced attractively for potential returns. Bjangles highlighted the positive community engagement and the potential for new and returning players, while Fatjimmy and bjangles agreed on the strategic reintroduction of non-soulbound products in rewards, emphasizing the appeal for collectors and free-to-play users.
Enhancing Game Engagement and Stability
Bjangles and Fatjimmy discussed the need for more explosions and sound effects in the game to enhance engagement, referencing a previous goofy battle video. They also talked about the upcoming campaign mode, with multiple chapters already in development, and the importance of packaging complex mechanics like synergies and bloodlines in a digestible way. Bjangles shared exciting news about a new crypto gaming recovery fund initiative, which aims to support the crypto gaming community by offering long-term incentives for participants who join Splinterlands after leaving struggling projects. Fatjimmy emphasized the significance of this initiative as a long-term roadmap and a way to showcase Splinterlands' stability and commitment to the community.
Card Collection and Game Improvements
Fatjimmy and bjangles discussed their experiences with card packs, with Fatjimmy mentioning his collection of beta packs and bjangles acquiring cards through jackpot prizes. They noted improvements in the game's ecosystem, addressing previous issues like player and reward bleeding. Fatjimmy expressed interest in participating in modern ranked play and acquiring more cards, including recent purchases of black foil cards. They also discussed the strategic use of fire splinter cards and the potential for incorporating music into the game experience.
Airdrop Impact on Game Economy
Bjangles and Fatjimmy discussed the upcoming airdrop and its potential impact on the game's economy. They expressed concerns about the cost of repairs for wagons receiving airdropped cards and the fairness of the system. While acknowledging the experimental nature of the airdrop, they agreed to give it a chance and see how it unfolds. They also touched on the high price point for entry into the game and the need to make it more accessible to new players.
Card Market Economy Discussion
Bjangles and Fatjimmy discussed card market values, noting that prices for epics and legendaries had increased due to changes in the game's economy. They explored the potential for new pack offerings and marketplaces, including the possibility of a $2 booster pack. The conversation also touched on upcoming guests for their podcast, including the return of RoyalEagle and the potential for an auction platform. They agreed to save further discussion on land strategies for the next episode.

Not given this one a listen yet but always a good podcast. The last one had me wondering about the wagons. I have some BF cards to stake but my guildmates don't. They're concerned they wont earn much. Hoping for some answers from the team soon. Anyway, keep it up guys.
Gotta be comin soon! Stoked for this first airdrop. Cheers Pete!
With 2k pickles, that's about 60 gold foils at 2% chance but Black Foil drop rate is 1 in 4k so will be hard to get lots of BF. Still will be cool if the Dao get some and auction them to give Dao some earnings.
Already completed the campaign and got the foundation set. Glad that they are reintroducing non soulbound rewards and the way that they cannot be burned to DEC.
Thanks for clarifying the specifics here, Saydie! @fatjimmy - great call out here. Still likin the idea of stackin Pickles in the pantry! Cheers dude :)
TLDR;
@fatjimmy is willing to pay for moustache skins
:D
