My New Zombie Death Deck after CSR!
Greetings everyone,
The core set refresh has been a huge update so far that got the game more exciting but a bit more confusing as well. With all these new reworked cards, new ones and lost decks that you might had before, players might be a bit confused as to what to play, which cards to use and what deck to build.
The core set refresh brought alongside it a huge door to try new stuff that might shift the meta which still have a long way to be discovered and slowly being uncovered by our wonderful players. I surely have seen and was surprised with a lot of cards when I was playing and I am still getting surprised!
So with all these new and reworked cards, I figured I might try adding and switching some stuff to my old zombie death deck which I posted about before which surprisingly was still viable even after changing all these cards I was still able to use it and no cards in it went out of death realm. So after reading and seeing some new cards (still have a lot more to see) here is my new death deck with a couple of cards switched:
New Deck
This deck looks so similar to my last one, I mean of course they are both zombie decks so they won't look a lot different. However, I added in a few new cards that have either been reworked or newly released that have served me quite well over my last 12 games, and I will be mentioning them later on in the post, for now let's see how the deck performed for me:
Matchups and Results:
Matchups | Wins/Matches | Win rate |
---|---|---|
Light | 1/1 | |
Nature | 3/4 | |
Magic | 1/2 | |
Death | 0/1 | |
War | 3/3 | |
Deception | 1/1 | |
Overall | 9/12 | 75% |
These are the results from the last 12 games I played with this deck. 7 of these games are in Ethereal Diamond and the other 5 were in mythic after I promoted back. I can say this deck performed quite well especially when I had good starting hands because unless you get your Necroscepters and Cursed Obelisks early on, it is really tough to come back from this situation.
It also performed excellently especially against war because I was able to talk control from the start of the game and the opponent was not able to finish me since I had many ways to heal back slowly since all my war opponents were playing aggro war. So overall pretty nice results!
New or Reworked Cards
The deck was performing a little bit more poorly before these cards were reworked or added so I can safely say that these cards did so well for this deck that we should highlight them one by one:
Skeleton Heavy
So the skeleton heavy was reworked from a neutral 2/4 2 mana card without any effects, to a 3 mana 2/4 death card with the afterlife shown in the picture. After adding it to see how this card might perform, the afterlife helped me in many situations to keep either a creature or a zombie alive till my turn comes so I can frenzy myself without having to use 1 mana for god power. It also kept some creatures alive for me with its that might have been taken down, thus allowed me to control the board even more!
Ray of disintegration
So the ray was basically the same exact cards with only the 2 damage changed from hitting your god only, to hitting both gods. I know this might not sound like a game changing buff, but trust me even though this card was very useful before the buff, it is now immensely better. Not only these 2 damage helped win a few games that I was not able to finish off the opponent in, but also it now makes you frenzied which is soo useful for death decks. This way you would not have to worry about using a mana crystal to frenzy yourself if you were on 5 mana or you can also pip it out at 4 mana and get the frenzied in case you did not gave any creatures on board in both cases!
Monsterize
This card was the last one I added after going through the newly released cards. I though that with the many zombies that you get through the game, this could be a close up cheaper version of The Old Ritual which basically transform any creature you control to a 6/6 Nether. I thought that turning a zombie 4/3 with only 2 mana can be quite useful and it did help me in many situations either to take out annoying creatures or maybe heal back or simply get extra face damage in.
Extra tips on using the deck:
A card not to mulligan
Surprisingly even for me, this card is not good to mulligan at the start of the game only maybe against light. Because after experiencing it for a while, I feel like if you start with this card, first it will be hard to make use of its ability because it is tough to kill an enemy creature with only 2 damage and second it helps the opponent establish a board early game because it does not deal any threat.
This card is best used at 3 or 4 mana to protect a Cursed Obelisks for example and where it also might help you finish off an opponent creature and come back to your hand only to be placed again!
Do not let spells stack in your hand
It is sometimes tempting to keep early game spells in your hand like a Blight Bomb or a Monsterize for example, but this has proven more harmful than good to me. Because often I keep one of them in my hand, only to draw a Void Flash next and have a dead hand for the next 2 turns. My advice in this situation would be if you do not have at least 2, 2 mana creatures in your hand, remove all your spells hoping to get one of these necros or cursed obelisks hopefully. Of course though prioritize rotating the very high mana cards first if they started out in your hand. The best starting hand for me that won me most of my games was this:
A blight bomb instead of a Void Banshee here would be fine as well since most of the times you will be able to get that early huge frenzy with the Voracious Fiend.
A card that I have my eyes on:
I passed through a card early on for the death god, and it peaked my interest, however, I still am not sure of it will be a good add to the Zombie Deck or if it would work better in other death deck here is the card:
I though that with god power, this is an instant +2/+2 for this creature, and if you had 1 or 2 zombies already on board, it can be even more huge! But whether this card might ruin some players for the deck when it takes another card's place that remains to be seen. Definitely planning on trying it though!
Conclusion
The CSR opened a lot of doors for us to try and add new stuff to our decks and also build new decks that we did not expect to work before! And this is a great work from our developer to keep the game very exciting and trying their best to keep it balanced as well!
For now I am trying my best to try as much new stuff as I can while I am overwhelm with how many new cards and effects took place that are surprising me! So be sure to also try as much new stuff as possible and try out this deck if you like Zombies it is so much fun to use! And let me know in the comments of any new cards that you like a lot or it peaked your interest!
And I also want to say huge thanks for @kephler showcasing website that is always keeping up to date with the cards changes and helping us showcase the new card as soon as they come up and keeping things simple for us. Make sure to check it out if you have not : https://gu-list-creator.vercel.app/
And for now that is it for this post, hope everyone is having tons of fun with the game and I will se you on the next one! Mad Love, Peace out <3
The people doing V2K with remote neural monitoring want me to believe this lady @battleaxe is an operator. She is involved deeply with her group and @fyrstikken . Her discord is Battleaxe#1003. I cant prove she is the one directly doing the V2K and RNM. Doing it requires more than one person at the least. It cant be done alone. She cant prove she is not one of the ones doing it. I was drugged in my home covertly, it ended badly. They have tried to kill me and are still trying to kill me. I bet nobody does anything at all. Ask @battleaxe to prove it. I bet she wont. They want me to believe the V2K and RNM in me is being broadcast from her location. And what the fuck is "HOMELAND SECURITY" doing about this shit? I think stumbling over their own dicks maybe? Just like they did and are doing with the Havana Syndrome https://ecency.com/fyrstikken/@fairandbalanced/i-am-the-only-motherfucker-on-the-internet-pointing-to-a-direct-source-for-voice-to-skull-electronic-terrorism

Skeleton Heavy seems awful after the rework, there's so many good choices for 3-mana, even Cursed Hoplite is better because of how sticky it is
I mostly use it to tank for the cursed obelisks and sometimes finish off an annoying creature with the afterlife.
Skeleton Heavy doesn't cut it at 3 mana, you have many better 3 drops in death like Fickle Cambion, Greed Banestrider, or even the Cursed Olympian.
I'm actually having so much trouble with Zombie Death after the CSR; the Ray of Disintegration change hit me like a brick when it dealt lethal to me in a game 😂 Although I haven't seen Faithbreaker being played yet it seems super strong, hope you get to pull it soon and try it out in your deck 😃
