4 BIG mistakes new players do!

Hello everyone,

You probably all know by now from my previous post that I was recently banned from gods unchained for win trading, which was a misjudgment mistake by their end. However, during these couple of days that I was banned in and after keeping on trying to reach out for the support, I reached a point where I lost hope for my account to be unbanned, so I created a new one and played it for 2 days I think.

During these two days I played a lot of games because in my mind it was going to be my new account that I had to start from 0 in; well not from 0 exactly because I got to keep all my meteorite cards. But despite having them, I decided to try it out on myself and only use new cards that I get and not touch any of the old ones.

So during these 2 days, and after playing a decent amount of games I reached twilight shadow and it was at this point that my account was unbanned so I went back to it again. Nonetheless, these 2 days I spent in the starting ranks, I saw and realized a lot of basic mistakes that new players are making that are costing them the games, so I decided to make this post to help anyone out there starting the game recently to avoid these common mistakes.

Now by all means this does not mean that all your games will become wins out of the blue because I was a 2 months experienced player among new ones so nothing to brag about, but this should help improve your results a lot. So if you are a new, unexperienced player this post is specifically for you! So I will be pointing out 4 deadly mistakes that I noticed some of the players doing between rusted bronze up until twilight shadow!

Mistake #1

Using random unorganized decks

In any card games out there, the deck that you are using makes 80% of how your games are going to turn out adding luck and skill to that. Now I noticed a lot of players are not using the starter decks, but making some random decks that have a lot of high mana creatures and barely nothing to play early on.

Now I understand that most new player does not know a lot of cards and are not very familiar with building decks, and starter decks can get somewhat tough to win with at a certain point, so I made 1 deck for each god completely out of the cards I owned when I started this account and after winning a couple of games, so after opening a couple of packs. These decks are close to the starter ones but improved to some extent to be more efficient and should be able to get you to solar gold:

Light Deck

War Deck

 "warr.jpg"

Nature Deck

 "naturee.jpg"

Death Deck

 "deathh.jpg"

Deception Deck

 "deceptionn.jpg"

Magic Deck

 "magicc.jpg"

Now all these deck are built completely with only what I had after opening a couple of packs on my new account, without using any of the old cards. Among all these the best ones to start using are either nature or war, because their f2p decks are somewhat better performing than others. But it is not only about having a good deck which will make your results become better, you have to also know how to play the deck and how to pilot it which brings us to our second mistake:

Mistake #2

Playing the deck randomly

Now what do I mean by playing the deck randomly? It means that sometimes, I noticed some players either spamming cards on the board and running out of cards to play, or playing a certain spell or a creature at some point and not get any benefit out of it. This clearly comes from the reason that this player does not know the real purpose out of his deck and is just playing creatures.

Now as much as this might work sometimes in early ranks, every player should learn the exact purpose of the deck he is using and how and when to use every card. So for this I will be explaining 3 keywords that can help you understand how these decks function better:

Aggro Decks

The first keyword will be Aggro decks, this means that your deck is meant to be as aggressive as possible, and it usually contains a lot of low mana cost creatures. In this one you have to try as much as you can to control the board early on and dominate your opponent and end the game as soon as possible. Spamming creatures here is usually useful when you are playing an aggro deck but it is also important to know where to attack with each one of them! An aggro deck mana chart can look something like this:

 "aggro chart.jpg"

This is the chart of the deception deck above, you can notice you have a total of 20, 1,2 and 3 mana creatures combined which shows that the deck is somewhat aggressive in the early stages of the game. So most of the times, checking out these graphs can help you determine what type of deck you are using.

Mid Range Decks

Now mid range decks usually contain a lot of 4,5 and 6 mana creatures and is all about taking control of the game during the mid stage of it. This does not mean you have to have a sloppy start, but having a strong mid game creatures should help you make up for the slow early game you had. So while playing a mid range deck you have to try to use these strong mid game creatures to your advantage and overwhelm your opponent by summoning creature after creature. A mid range deck mana chart looks something like this:

 "mid range.jpg"

Now as you can see in this deck we have many 3,4,5 and 6 mana creatures which will help us dominate the mid game, and also some small mana creature to help us not have a very bad starting game because that could cost us a lot! This is the chart of the nature deck above.

Control Decks

Now as you might have realized, control decks are the utmost late game decks. They usually consist of several late game creatures like 7,8 or sometimes 9 mana creatures and the whole purpose of them is to simply survive until the late game with as less damage and possible, and then from their simply use these strong late game beast to win the game. Now control decks does not usually works well in low ranks for the lack of cards that can help you survive until the 8 mana spot and that is why none of the decks above are considered control decks! A control deck mana chart can look like this:

 "control.jpg"

This is a classic Board Wipe Death mana chart. As you can see it has a lot of 7 mana + creatures alongside some low cost ones to help survive the early game.

Mistake #3

Not using the sanctum

Now I noticed several times my opponent was able to use the sanctum and had enough favor for it, and at some points if he used it it would have been game changing but he did not. So what is the sanctum? The sanctum is a mechanic where you can buy cards for only the game you are playing at the moment, using favor which you get by either hitting your opponent god, or killing one of his creatures without yours dying.

 "favv.jpg"

Here you can see how many favor you have.

 "sanctum.jpg"

And here is what the sanctum looks like, it is on the right of the screen during the game. Now how to use the sanctum varies a lot. The sanctum can contain 3 cards at a time varying from removal, to frontlines to cards that might heal or relic remove. So many times the use of the sanctum might be game changing for the outcome of the game. Now explaining the sanctum in details require a post by itself so here are two posts you can go to to learn even more about it:

Mistake #4

Using the extra mana crystals wrong

Now this one was a bit weird to me and I did not understand much the purpose of some players using the crystals this way but this was my conclusion about it. I noticed some players using the mana crystal after finishing all there mana, and then just giving the turn. So the way I think about it is that some players might think that these mana crystal are permanently opened to be used during the next turns which is not the case.

 "manaa.jpg"

To start off properly with explaining how these function, you are only allowed to use only 1 of them each round. These many crystal will add 1 extra mana to your crystals for only 1 turn. So these are usually used when you are 1 mana short to play a certain creature at some point, and as soon as you end your turn this extra mana crystal opened will disappear again. These are usually used to try and get ahead of your opponent with playing stronger or more creature at a certain turn. So next time you use one of these try to make the best out of each and every one of them!

Conclusion

It is very normal for each and every new players to make mistakes. I was a new player at some point and made a lot of silly mistakes that made me wonder what was I doing wrong at this point. The key to improving and learning these stuff is to either read about them, or watch videos. Here is one of the best beginners guide video for @copperpitch if you are more of a video person: https://hive.blog/hive-173286/@copperpitch/gods-unchained-complete-starters-guide

One of the best ways to master a certain type of deck is to watch good players piloting and using it, and see how they are thinking and acting in each situation, and also to learn more about the mechanics of the game searching for videos or articles is the way to go! So do not hesitate to keep learning and improving and at the same time enjoying the game to the fullest!

Do not get frustrated if a lot of stuff seems to be weird and confusing to you, and also do not get overwhelmed by the amount of cards that you might keep getting, with time you will manage and learn all these stuff until you can make your own decks yourself, or it will be easier for you to understand how to manage decks that you might import from other players.

Hope this post was helpful in any way for new players, and I hope these tips can help you improve your gameplay since I noticed these 4 mistakes happening quite often during the 2 days I was using my new accounts. That was it for this one and welcome to all new gods unchained player, hope you have a good time playing it!

Mad Love, Peace out <3
