Introduction

Hi Praetoria! Welcome to another edition of the Splinterlands Social Media Challenge brought to you by The Jedo! Link to the challenge HERE. I noticed a lot of articles being posted about Survival Mode and SPS Validators but I want to go against the grain this time and post about something else I am very much passionate about: Land!

This week, I will share my progress with the Land portion of the game and how I am preparing for the upcoming Land 1.75 update. As a bonus, I will also share some fun battles I have experienced while playing in Modern Ranked! These battles were from last season and though it's a little bit out-of-date, I still would like to share how these battles went.

Approach to Land

I recently wrote about my land holdings in this article. Since then, the only update I have done with my land is the assignment of an assortment of GF monsters to my remaining unworked Magical Plots in the region where my Keep is located. This was done even before @cryptomancer provided the Land Barons some update:

I do daily resource claims across all the regions I have production in with the exception of my sole plot I have in Region 18 (Rare Occupied land) and my Keep in Region 50. For these 2 specific plots, I only claim the gathered resources every Saturday. I have discovered a handful of totem fragments harvesting resources this way. I had even gotten a Legendary one months ago and sold it for $100! With the surprise twist mentioned above, it's only going to get harder to find these totems.

Once a week, typically every Saturday, I also deposit my excess Grain into the Grain-DEC LP. I currently own 0.3% of the pool but will gradually increase my position over time.

I have a variety of future resources that I can harvest across different regions. Based from my holdings, majority of Grain and Wood would come from my Home Region Ia'telda, which is Region 50. Ritrough, which is Region 51, could be my source of Ore. In Region 119, Lonshire, I can generate plenty of Stone. My lands in Region 114, Tostrington, can produce a little bit of everything. See link HERE to view all other plots I own in each region and see which plots are producing any resources. For now, I only populated higher rarity plots. All natural commons are left unfarmed, and so are most of the other rare natural plots in my secondary regions. I made sure everything I owned had buildings built on it, though. Just giving myself a bit of a head start.

I do not have all my plots up and running at the moment but my goal is to make all of them productive. I might have a long way to go but I do believe in Splinterlands and I do believe in the Land portion of this game. Slowly but surely, I believe we will get there.

Even though Grain is the only resource available for farming at the moment, (aside from Research and SPS, of course), I feel like I will still be in good shape when the new update rolls out and when buildings for other basic resources get automatically converted to produce the respective resource depending on plot type. In case I need more Wood, Stone, or Ore to continue harvesting Research and mining SPS, I will access the Resource-to-Resource market which will also be available soon. Exciting times in Praetoria!

Do you have any comments or feedback about land? Let me know!

Featured Battle 1

As previously mentioned, I will also share some bonus battles with y'all!

The first one is a 27-mana match with Deflection Field, Stampede, and Healed Out as the rulesets. With only Life and Dragon as the available Splinters, I was very limited with the units I could play. Sometimes though, being limited is better, as there are fewer options to choose from, and therefore will take less time to decide on which team combinations to play. Not sure what I wanted to play here but I wanted to maximize the Stampede ruleset. I want Venka the Vile out there!

My Strategy: Deal as much carnage as possible with Venka! Make the most of her Trample ability! No need to worry about Thorns due to the Deflection Field ruleset.

I placed a speedy team consisting of Void Dragon as the dodge tank, with Venator Kinjo, Soul Fiend, and Naga Assassin for Speed Manipulation. I also included Dr. Blight because... why not? I selected Lily as my Summoner mainly for the Camouflage ability. I wanted to make sure my Venka was protected.

Feature 1.1.jpg

The match started with Naga Assassin dealing the first attack of the game. This broke the enemy Divine Shield making it vulnerable to succeeding attacks. Void Dragon's magic attack also connected but a portion of the damage was reflected back to the speedy dragon. With Deflect, of course, no damage was dealt, and even if there was, the Void ability would have minimized it. Chaos ensued shortly after.

Feature 1.2.jpg

Venka had the chance to deal double damage to Pelacor Conjurer, killing the flying meat shield in one blow! Seeing the damage amplified by the Oppress ability feels really satisfying. Venka's Trample triggered, commencing another attack to the next adjacent enemy unit. This time it was Djinn Renova on the receiving end of Venka's giant weapon.

Feature 1.3.jpg

With every kill, Trample triggers, thanks to the Stampede ruleset. The enemy team did not stand a chance. Venka showed no mercy. It's nice to see this when you're on the offensive end. Feels horrible when you're on the receiving end. Can you tell this has happened to me before?

Featured Battle 2

The second featured battle (and the last one, at least for now) is another low mana match restricting me to choosing units from the Water, Earth, and Death Splinters only!

15-mana match with Rise of the Commons, Counterspell, and Reverse Speed as the rulesets. I could have gone for a Sneak play with Water but Pelacor Bandit is too fast. Magic units typically have slower speed or would at least have a lower chance to miss attacks but the Counterspell ruleset worried me. I thought maybe Night Stalker can bring it home for me.

My Strategy: Lower enemy health with Thaddius Brood's health reduction ability and use a Redemption play to further reduce the health of enemy units. This will open up Night Stalker's Execute ability and cause collateral damage with Blast.

Feature 2.1.jpg

I chose a cheap tank in Wily Coyotian. Life Sapper was also selected for the sole purpose of dealing Redemption damage when it dies so the reflected magic damage did not worry me at all. Ahna-Chei Botanist was placed in the rear just for Sneak protection.

My plan worked! As the enemy team was busy attacking Wily Coyotian, Night Stalker caused mayhem in the enemy backline. Execute triggered for the first time, allowing Night Stalker to basically attack twice, taking down 2 enemy units.

Unfortunately, Night Stalker's attack in Round 2 did not connect. I have already lost my low mana tank pushing Life Sapper to the first position and vulnerable to all enemy attacks. Life Sapper eventually got eliminated but brought down Soul Strangler with him by means of the Redemption damage.

Night Stalker's chance to attack again came in Round 3 and boy did he make the most of it! Since he's now in first position, he had no choice but to attack the enemy tank. His melee attack connected and dealt Blast damage to the Dark Arborist, bringing its life total down to 2. Execute triggers again, allowing the dual element unit attack Dark Arborist not only killing it, but also dealing Blast damage back to the current enemy tank, an opposing Wily Coyotian.

Feature 2.2.jpg

The 2-mana tank had the chance to deal one last hit to my Night Stalker, leaving both of them at 1 health. If Night Stalker somehow misses his next attack, it would mean I'd lose this match. Thankfully, he hit his target, swiftly eliminating the last unit in my opponent's team.

That was a close one!

Summary

As you can see, there are other ways to enjoy your Splinterlands assets aside from playing Ranked, Tournaments, Brawls, and most recently, Survival Mode. Land is another way to generate value from your assets. Considering land is so cheap and affordable at the moment, it might be a good time to stack up on some digital real estate before the markets move and price out most of the players in the game. Not financial advice, though! 😜

Final Thoughts

I hope you guys enjoyed this article! Whether you prefer to play battles, build your digital real estate, or just collect these fancy images of collectible cards, I'm hoping you enjoy your time while doing so!

If you have questions, comments, or feedback, please let me know! Let's all learn and grow together and set each other up for success! Vonak! Together We Thrive, Kapamilya!
