Introduction

Hi Praetoria! Welcome to another edition of the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge brought to you by The Jedo! Link to the challenge HERE.

This week, we will discuss my beginnings, milestones, and other things that keep me coming back for more - whether to the battlefield or to other aspects of the game.

Discovering Splinterlands

It was the summer of 2021. A cousin of mine living overseas reached out to me and invited me to play this new game he just got into.

His pitch? It’s like Magic: The Gathering. Similar to Axie Infinity at the time, games like Splinterlands were becoming more and more popular especially with the earning aspect of these kinds of games.

Like many games I have played in the past, whatever he was into, most likely I got into as well, whether it was an online RPG or a new TCG. He had a feeling I was going to like Splinterlands and tried to convince me to play more than once.

Since there was a money-making aspect to his invitation, just like anyone interested in making a little bit more on the side, I eventually decided to check it out. And so began my Splinterlands journey.

More on my backstory HERE.

Early Memories

First Reward Card I Treasured

Back when daily quests were still a thing, I always looked forward to opening chests and hoped that I'd get a card that's worth something. Maybe even an SPS jackpot. A guy could dream.

One random day, I opened a chest and got my very first Epic Reward Card: Axemaster.

I got really excited getting this card! I do not remember how much it cost at the time but I wasn't planning on selling it anyway even if the card was just Regular Foil.

I tried to use it in games as often as I could. I eventually bought more BCX to get it to Level 4 which I still have to this day.

Maybe I should get one in Gold Foil just for sentimental reasons... Hmmm.....

Splinterfest 2022 - An Opportunity to Meet Other Players

Another early memory I have regarding battles happened in Las Vegas during Splinterfest. Just a little over a year after I had started playing the game.

It wasn't a battle I played, but something I witnessed.

This match was actually mentioned in one of the recent @thepeoplesguild Podcast episodes. It was shown on the big screen featuring Djinn Inferni delivering consecutive stuns as if he was Stone Cold Steve Austin.

The only bummer here was that it wasn't televised live. We had heard people cheering from the gaming area before the match was played on the big screen. People already knew the outcome of the match.

It was a little bit anticlimactic because we already had expectations that something great was about to happen.

Nevertheless, we still cheered as the match progressed. But imagine, how much more amazing it would have been had everyone witnessed the battle all at the same time...

Evolution of My Strategy

Early on, I was happy with just renting cards and completing the daily quests. I also started with minimal investment. Maybe around $100 in SPS and $100 in DEC at the time.

I jumped from one league onto the next, and discovered that Gold League was my sweet spot in terms of investment and challenges. This is where I tried to compete for Ranked Leaderboards. I ultimately started to own some assets and gradually added more cards to my collection.

My first owned summoner? A level 6 Malric Inferno.

At first, I was content with owning a few cards and just renting the rest.

After some time, I got hooked to owning the cards I wanted to play with. I kept spending as new cards were being released. My collection grew bigger and bigger.

This strategy changed with the release of Land. I wanted more Production on my land plots so I purchased more cards with the sole purpose of populating my land.

Now, my own collection is above 6 million CP. 7 million including my long-term rentals. I think it’s safe to say I am very much invested in this game already.

I had known about Spinterlands Land from when I first started playing the game. Unfortunately, this was way after the presale had concluded.

I was buying Plot tokens from Hive Engine hoping the investment would be worth it someday. In my mind, there’s so much potential in this type of asset especially if these virtual lands were to mimic real life.

Initially, I was happy with the 12 plots I had owned that were surveyed between 2 groups.

As more land plots hit the market, especially ones in the regions I liked, I tried to obtain more and more. Even though prices kept going lower, I continued to buy as I thought this was my opportunity to expand my holdings.

To date, I have over 260 plots with varying rarities and land types!

image.png

Even though I only have a little bit over 25% of my total plots that are active, I know one of these days that I will get the opportunity to activate more.

One step at a time.

As mentioned earlier, I started with a small quantity of SPS. I started with $100 worth of SPS just so I could get enough rewards daily from staking and from playing the game.

Changes to the ranked system had been implemented and I felt the need to reach 100,000 staked SPS just to get decent rewards in the league I was playing.

Today, I have already surpassed 250,000 Staked SPS! Milestone achieved!

Reaping the harvest from Land and owning a Validator License contributed to this accomplishment. A great feeling, indeed!

Aside from SPS, I also invested in Runi. As already made obvious in the statements above, I am big on Splinterlands Land and staking Runi to your land plots further boosts production.

I am a proud owner of 20 of these scarce assets.

In case you are interested, I had previously wrote about my Splinterlands journey HERE.

Goals: Hitting Milestones

With almost 4 years into my journey, I have already hit goals I had subconsciously set for myself. I never thought I would spend this much on digital cards and other assets like Land, Runi, SPS, and DEC.

I don’t regret any of these, though. I believe in the future of Splinterlands and I will keep on growing my assets one way or another.

For my next steps, I think these will primarily be towards Land.

To me, this is the most fascinating part of the game. Managing my assets and generating passive income from Land is like a real life business. It can also be compared to owning dividend-paying stocks!

My goal is that one day, I will get to own all the plots within the reach of my Keep and ensure they are all in production, even with just a few thousand production points on them.

I also hope that I am able to inspire more Splinterlands players to explore and navigate the regions of Praetoria and own a piece (or pieces) of these fertile grounds.

Map of Praetoria

So far, I was able to convince a couple of community members to reallocate some of their Splinterlands earnings into Land.

Someday, they will be able to reap the benefits of owning land and reinvest them into the game. They can even use their earnings for real life stuff!
