The 100 Florida Goldback, A Golden Work of Art

Over the last few months I have been doing a series of posts on the new Florida Goldback series that was released early this year. I have spent a lot of time living in and visiting Florida over the years so I have a bit of attachment to the state. It's a gorgeous place with so many great beaches, fishing, and diving. I've been having a lot of fun talking about these beautiful works of art that also are micro deposited with 24 K pure gold. It's a great way to invest in gold as there is a range of gold not amounts starting with 1/2000th of a Troy ounce all the way up to 1/10th of a Troy ounce, which I will be sharing today! It's titled "Liberty".

Goldback.com

I love the design of this particular Goldback as is has so much Florida history. I'll go over some to the interesting events today in my post. Will I be buying this particular one? Most likely not. The reason being is that the asking price is $629 at the moment. Now, if I were to buy a gold coin that also had 1/10th Troy ounces of gold like the one below it would only cost me $396. That's an additional $234 for the note and I just be wouldn't be willing to pay that high a premium even though it really is a cool item.

Let's dive into the art of this Goldback note. For those of me who don't know me well, I love the ocean and sea creatures, so we're kicking off with the sea turtles!

At the very bottom of this Goldback you see some baby turtles making their way to ocean. There are five different species of sea turtles that lay their eggs of Florida's beaches and all are endangered, but the most commonly seen if the Loggerhead. I have always loved diving on a reef and running into one or two of these beautiful animals. It doesn't happen very often so it really is a special treat.

Female turtles will come ashore to lay their eggs on the beaches. Biologist typically will flag nests to protect them from being crushed, but still predators like to eat any eggs they can find. Once they hatch they have to make a dash for the ocean all the while they are very exposed to being eaten by other animals. Once in the water they use algae to hide until they are big enough to avoid predation.

Something interesting I learned today is that the baby turtles have magnetite in their brains which is a magnetic mineral. It contains iron that they use it to to navigate with the earth's magnetic fields, a very neat trick of evolution by mother nature. For those of us who like to pan for gold we are very familiar with magnetite, as it is found in black sand where gold is often found while panning.

Here is a video of some hatchings making the dash to the safety of the sea to escape predators:

Cuba

revistaconsideraciones.com

Cuba is one island nation in the Caribbean that I have always wanted to visit but was never able to make the trip. In the 1990's Cuba was an extremely difficult place to visit as an American citizen due to restrictions placed by the US Government. I had friends from that weren't US citizens and would travel there frequently as it was an inexpensive and beautiful location.

For a quick backstory, after the 1898 Spanish American War Cuba, Puerto Rico, The Philippines, and Guam were ceded to the United States. Cuba chose to become independent in 1902. There was always a lot of political dissent that led to a revolution started in 1933 by Fulgencio Batista. In 1940 a new constitution was enacted and Batista was president until 1944. He then decided to run again in 1952, but faced a sure electoral defeat so he led a military coup and took over the government and outlawed most political parties and constitutional freedoms. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer.

In 1958 a fellow by the name of Fidel Castro starts to make waves and overthrows Batista in 1959 turning Cuba into a communist stronghold. Many Cubans fled the country to escape the new government and economic hardships that followed and continue until this day. For many years the US was where many Cubans found refuge, and I personally have many friends who fled Cuba.

In the Goldback you see Liberty helping bring the ship of immigrants to Florida from Cuba. Miami became a hotspot for Cuban culture which still felt today, along with great food and coffee!

Apollo 11

ar.inspiredpencil.com

Another notable feature near the bottom of the Goldback is the boot print in the sand. It's not just any boot print, but one similar to the ones left by astronauts on the moon. On July 20, 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon becoming the first men to walk on an object other than earth. However, it wasn't without it dangers. NASA informed the Apollo 11 crew that their odds of success were 50/50 at best. That meant they had a pretty good chance that their final resting place was going to be the moon.

abcnews.go.com

These brave men faced the dangers to have the chance to walk on another world and succeeded. They launched from what is today Cape Canaveral on Florida's east coast. All in all twelve men would eventually walk on the moon the last being in December of 1972. Only now is there a renewed push for manned missions to the moon and establishment of a permanent manned base to set the stage for trips to Mars.

I won't be signing up for any Moon or Mars trips myself, I don't know about you. Would you want to be one of the early Mars settlers?

That will wrap up today's post, I hope you enjoyed learning some more Florida history portrayed on this golden work of art. I think Goldbacks are really awesome, I just wish the premium weren't so high on this one because the artwork is top notch. Please feel free to leave any questions or comments below, and thank you for all of your support. It's deeply appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

That is pretty cool, but I understand why you wouldn't want to spend the extra money on it. I actually think the art on the other one that has the more ancient look is pretty cool. The one with the conquistadors and stuff like that. These are neat in that they are almost like a little treasure hunt or those old picture search puzzles we did as kids.

I agree completely, this is the most modern looking of the group and the most expensive. I would rather have a gold coin or bar over spend all the extra cash for the Goldback in this case. The art is really cool and has some great history, and it really is a bit of treasure hunt to figure out what the pictures are referring to!

I didn't notice the rocket in the background until I went back to look at the footprint.

That rocket is hard to spot in the background if you don't look for it! lol

The design is too cool!!! But that's a lot of premium you have to pay for a 100 Goldback. I understand that collectors will purchase that. Personally, I prefer a gold coin!
Wow, I miss Hawaii!

That is a very nice goldback with lovely design. But I do think I will buy the coin as well instead of the goldback, the price differences is also quite big.

The premium price on the Goldback is just too high on this one, the coin would be much more affordable. I think everybody agrees on this one so far! The art is really cool though! Thanks!

I really like the GoldBack’s as well, my friend, but that is a high premium….🙄
I think you’re correct. It would be better to buy the 1/10 ounce gold coin at the moment!👍

I couldn't stomach the price, premium is just too high! It's pretty cool though, just you could almost get two of the coins for that price! lol

It’s is very cool, but I agree with you I would go for two 1/10 Ounce Gold coins!😇😊

Awesome GB note!
That kind of premium is discouraging.
The issue is likely the fixed costs of producing this gorgeous GB. Until Aurum can get sufficiently high demand and ramp up the production, we won't see reduced costs without employing efficient use in Economy of scale.

It must be technically more challenging to deposit that much gold, and like you said without higher demand it's not likely to drop in price. As much as I like this one, the a gold coin or bar would make me happier at the current price level. I wish I could collect them all, just like Pokémon. But not being incredibly wealthy I do what I can!

What beautiful places you combined here, the space, the Cuba I want to visited this places one day, and the fantastic turtle combinations

That's what I love about the tropics, beautiful water and beaches along with sea creatures. I wish I could have made it to Cuba, maybe some yet! I've been to almost all of the other islands in the Caribbean though.

Space would be really cool, but I doubt I'll be alive long enough for the prices to get down low enough for me to go. And for the safety standards to get much, much better!

Thanks! It's just too bad this one is so expensive to purchase. I would much rather buy 1/10 Troy ounce gold bar or coin, it would be much less expensive. The whole Florida Goldback series have great art, the smaller gold amounts are much more affordable!

I had not noticed that. I checked with the hiqvote I gave and the last time it worked was 3 days ago.
in recent months the hiq team has been much less active and present on Hive.
Their idle game has been unplayable since October 2024
I hope they come back active soon because I liked their project

I think I will pass on going to Mars! Although I am partial to a Mars chocolate bar, which if I remember right is like a Milky Way in the US. For some reason they are different here and there!

I'll pass on Mars too, but the candy bar is a different story. I'll take one of those! It's all the weird branding and ownership issues between the UK and the US.

I heard Elon Musk say that his goal is to travel to Mars and have it be his final resting place. I've lived in enough deserts to know that Mars isn't for me!

Maybe when Musk lands on Mars we can then sever ties with Mars!
