Time To Burn Some DEC!

It's been a little over a year since I started to play splinterlands. It's also probably been a year since I excitedly bought my land plot. Back then, I was still struggling to understand the game but I intuitively knew that I would be making the right choice investing my time and money in this game. There have been tough times especially recently with the huge market decline that has the community worried. Still, the faith in this game, the company and the community remains. For me, this faith has been made stronger after hearing that splinterlands would be celebrating its 5th anniversary!

It takes a lot to start a game like this with a vision and put in the work to keep it up for half a decade. A blockchain-based video game is even tougher because of the very volatile crypto and NFT markets. Many projects have come and gone over the years but splinterlands is still standing strong and getting even stronger. That is definitely something worth celebrating and I really believe that splinterlands is going all out with the celebration.

The Great Burning!

"The Great Burning"; what a way to phrase this massive event! I absolutely love the idea of incentivizing players to buy a lot of DEC and DEC-B tokens. Of course, I am more interested in the DEC tokens. Given that there are more DEC tokens than DEC-B, we should expect more DEC to be burned in this event. I predict that tens, if not hundreds, of millions of DEC would be burned in this event. The purchase and burning of DEC should help the token regain some value and get closer to par. This would be really beneficial to the entire game economy which is the most important benefit right now. The value of DEC should increase as the supply reduces and also the price of SPS should increase as more SPS is burned to mint DEC. This should be reason enough to take part in the great burning but of course, there are other incentives.

The first impression I had after seeing this table was a good one. I like how the leaderboard prizes are stretched up the 200th position. Obviously, the first ten positions are the most desirable as that is when you'd probably get a good return for burning. Those top spots are obviously for bigger players but the other positions are not so bad especially considering the other prizes that are up for grabs.

So, except for the leaderboard prizes, everybody that participates enough in this event will stand a chance to win some really cool prizes. So there is some hope for us the smaller players. The best part about this is that the number of points received per burned DEC reduces everyday making it difficult for last minute burners to gain a lot of points. This way, more DEC is expected to be burned on the first day of the event as players strive to get as many points as possible!

Giuld Points: A long term reason to Burn

I still don't fully understand how these Guild points would work given that they have not been implemented just yet. Still, we have been told that we would soon need guild points to upgrade guild buildings and that these guild points remain with the player even after they leave a guild. The change is easily a better way to increase the faith of players when it comes to guilds given that they don't lose all their investments in the event that they are kicked out of a guild.

The great burning will provide all participants with the first opportunity to earn guild points that would serve them in the long term. This means that, since we would need DEC to obtain guild points even after the event, the burning is not so much a waste if a player does not earn any prizes given that the guild points may even be cheaper to earn during the event.

Getting Ready To Burn

It sucks when you don't keep up with the events of the community. There is always something happening on splinterlands and so it's important to always keep up with everything. Of course, just like any other player, I don't participate in every single event but I try to participate in as many as possible.

The Great Burning is definitely an event that I would participate in. I can't say how much DEC I would be willing to burn but I would burn as much as possible. I want to stand quite the chance to win some cool prizes. Any prize will do for me but I really hope I get another Runi! Who knows, maybe I will.

Conclusion

Sometimes I really wish that I got into splinterlands back when it was still steemmonsters. I would obviously be a bigger player by now if that had happened. I'm sure many people get these thoughts too. Still, I think I got into splinterlands at a good time with everything I have witnessed and all the developments to come. The fact that this game has made it 5 years so far gives a lot of faith that it will stand the greater test of time. In the next five years, I know that splinterlands will be way bigger and those of us playing right now will become OGs.
