Becoming a Musician: From Novice to Proficient Instrumentalist.

We sometimes get something's wrong by calling ourselves a musician. Most of the time, when we are asked if we are a musician, we say yes. Even if it's just that, we just try to sing or play instruments a little. We forget that it requires a lot to be a musician. You might not be a pro or an 100% player or singer but we can just wake up to say we are an instrumentalist.

I was at the rehearsal yesterday with the other choirs and we had some new signings, let me put it that way. Those that just joined the choir. These guy have written application since a while but due to lay down guide in the choir, they can't just join until they are screened and approved before they can finally join.

After going through their first stage of the process to join the choir, they were passed to join but while they were there, they went through some screening yesterday which some did well and some did below an average. Why they did below average was the fact that they were unable to specify what they really are. For instance, after the first person spoke, which was a lady, she said she sings and she stated her path which is the soprano.

She was then told to sing on two different keys and she was able to do that successfully. On the other hand, another person was told to introduce himself to the other choir members and he said he is a singer and can play a series of instruments. When he said this, I was very surprised and I said different instruments again. Then he was told to mention the instruments and he said clef, drums bell mostly percussion instrument and he was then told that those he mentioned are instruments but he was not supposed to say different instruments but instead percussionist.

After that, he was told to do everything he stated but he is not good in all but at least better in some aspect. Lo and behold after the screening, they were all permitted to join the choir full and now most of them got skill which they need to work on to make them better.

Before one can be fully called an instrumental, it all start with a Step which must be taken and one must ensure he does practice enhancing your dexterity day by day. Then, when you have attained some level, you can then be called an instrumentalist. Rehearsal and a lot of practice makes us get better as an instrumentalist.

Sometimes we generalize the terms :) It's good to learn the differences from your post.
