Smackdown This Week

This week's episode of WWE SmackDown did not disappoint by representing what WWE does best in creating and building compelling stories. Specifically, any match involving Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens facing The Bloodline was always bound to deliver an entertaining show. In this case, the match did indeed deliver, explored a series of promising storylines and engaged the audience. It was exactly that kind of high-stakes match that often lures the attention of not just myself, but likely other individuals in attendance and at home watching on television.

Let me also say that I love high-stakes rivalries, and this one is no different. The atmosphere and the stakes were present, and I really liked seeing Owens and Rhodes work together like two giants trying to topple a colossus. I enjoy how the Bloodline continues to establish their leadership within SmackDown.

What I appreciated equally was how no wrestler was booked as the sole star of the encounter. Owens and Rhodes working together felt fresher and dynamic I think. Sure, the athleticism, the psychology and the back and forth between each man was appealing, but it was the storytelling that enticed me back.

At the end of the evening, it was clear that WWE is creating opportunistic moments to encourage or rebel against reality. Compelling rivalries have not yet fully revealed their direction, but if this show is any indication, we are in for one hell of a ride. Netflix here we come, hahaha.
