Fake Silver 20g Bar
I was so excited this morning to finally receive my package. My order was a 20 gram pure silver bar that was supposedly made from India. It was from a Facebook seller that I've purchased from a few times already. He seems legit as all other items I've gotten before were okay.
But as soon as I unboxed it, I immediately could tell that it was not silver. It was a very hard metal. I want to say it was similar to the feel of stainless steel it was non-magnetic. I weighed it and it was exactly 20 grams. But the dead give away for me that it was not silver was the ping test I made. It had a short hard sound, typical of common metals. Copper, silver and other similar metals have a higher pitch sound that reverbirates for a long time.
So from there, I immediately knew I got a fake 20 gram silver bar. It was hard for me to accept as I was expecting fresh silver in my hands. I also don't want to judge the seller immediately and would like to give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't know it was fake, although if you're handling precious metals on a regular basis, just touching it is a dead giveaway that it's a counterfeit.

I fear that the amount of fake silver and gold is likely to increase with time as people who encounter coins try to pass it off so that the forgeries become problems for others.
I prefer to buy coins locally because it is easier to seek legal recourse for local trades.

I am also shocked at how many counterfeits are on the market now. I used to be confident buying 90% US coins but even the quarters are faked now, apparently.
I've handled a lot of silver over the last eleven years it would feel obvious. If this was the first few sales of a silver bar, perhaps. If the Seller have sold many silver products, then I would be suspicious. However, you should return it for a refund as this product was not what you have purchased. Does Facebook have a Seller Ratings or Service feedback policy? I have never bought or sold anything on FB.
Unfortunately, this was a personal collector/ seller that I've had legit transactions with in the past. I don't know what happened to him, trying to pass this as real silver.
