Sheng Xiao - Breath of Death

I've been having a blast playing with the new modern landscape. There are so many new card combinations to discover and each battle I encounter feels like a unique experience. But with a very limited budget, I have to carefully consider what cards I can use in the game. So when choosing my archon, I had to go with the dragon element since it's more versatile and can command other elements as well.

Another factor to consider for me is choosing cards only from the latest set, Conclave Arcana, to fully maximize the value from my purchase given that it will have longer modern play and potentially two conflict seasons. So there's two dragon archons at the moment, Kavor Skarn and Sheng Xiao. I would have liked to go with Kavor Skarn but the limited use of his bloodline dominion ability made me think twice. There's also the case of its cost rising which would have made a max level more expensive than its legendary counterpart. So I went with Sheng Xiao instead.

Sheng Xiao has a menacing card art that fits perfectly with the new full art layout. This ancient dragon bestows two allied units the ability to inflict deadly poisons.

First, the corrosive ward melts away enemy armor. This is significant, in my opinion, because there are many strategies revolving around armor in the new modern meta. This would make tanks easier to deal with, especially those that have Armored Strike.

The Poison Burst is truly what makes Sheng Xiao a powerful archon. It has the potential to poison up to three enemy monsters, which would be a death sentence to them. And because it's a tactic ability, you can wait and see the state of the board, whether the enemy has Sneak or Snipe monsters, for example, and position the Poison Burst strategically.

I'm having tons of fun playing with Sheng Xiao and the modern gameplay as a whole. I've almost forgotten how good Splinterlands as a game is because I got more focused on the token and asset prices. I'll try to slowly build my CA collection and hopefully get some airdrops from the upcoming conflicts as well.
