GREAT NEWS: Arcade Colony is coming to Mobile! 📲

Hello everyone, it has been a while once again that I wrote a longform article. As stated before, I hoped irl-stuff would cool down a bit during the Summer holidays but so far it hasn't cooled off. Anyway, I am not here to rant, it's not that bad after all to know what to do at work. Today I am going to write about Arcade Colony as I saw an article a couple of days ago which grabbed my interest. As you have read the title of this post, you probably already know what it's all about. Yes, you are right, it's: MOBILE GAMING and more in particular: Arcade Colony is investing heavily in mobile gaming. First I will talk about the news and afterwards I will give my opinion so let's go.

Mobile Blockchain Gaming is the holy grail of adoption

This is the article I am talking about, written by @aggroed who is one of the founders of the Invennium Corp. Which is a fully owned subsidiary of the Splinterlands corporation. He stated that mobile gaming is the holy grail of crypto adoption and I completely agree with him. As you can see on the graph below, the mobile gaming market in the USA in expected to continue to grow.

When I look at myself, I see an evolution as well. As a teenager I merely gamed on a console and on a desktop. Since I started working, I transitioned to mobile gaming. You may wonder why? Well, it's easier to play a couple of games laying on the couch than the hassle of starting up my desktop and loading a game which takes me 30minutes to just play one game. So yes, I rather play mobile games since a couple of years now.

Invennium and mobile gaming

As already stated, Invennium is the company who developed Arcade Colony. On Arcade Colony, you can play several games, like Moonkarts and StakeHouse Den for example. These games should be playable on mobile and it's probably the number 1 feedback given by their players. Why don't these games not exist on mobile? Well, apparently it's not that easy to develop mobile web3 games. Developing games for mobile is already harder than for a console or a desktop, adding the blackchain layer on top of it, is even harder.

Besides that, play2earn games often don't get approved by Playstore or other application marketplaces. Thus developers need to utilize a lot of creativity. An option as suggested in the article is to just have the game in the mobile version whereas the transfer or trading of tokens and assets is only possible on desktop or in a browser.

Anyways, Invennium is really close at launching the Arcade Colony homepage on mobile (personally this doesn't sound too hard to me, so I guess it will be there really soon). Afterwards, StakeHouse Den will go mobile, followed by Moonkarts.

Conclusion

I think it would be awesome to see more mobile games on the Hive blockchain. I would definitely consider playing them as I am already now more of a mobile gamer than a desktop-/consolegamer. Although I understand that it isn't easy at all, so much respect for Invennium and the others trying to crack the code of developing mobile games which interact with the Hive blockchain!
