Downvotes affect rewards. Some may think that auto-generated posts don't deserve as much as they get. We all have a say in the rewards distribution and that can mean adjusting them downwards.

Arcange changed how he posts to resolve the issue anyway. Marky has done a lot for Hive and I don't think he wants to wreck it, but he will act where necessary. I've always found him very reasonable. Have fun on Blurt.

I think that the problem isn't just a question of reward. It affects the reputation too...
It does, but it generally takes a lot of downvotes to significantly change that. You also need a higher rep to affect others. We need these tools to deal with abusers, but anyone is free to use them as they like.
Yes, but with his 80 rep he is clearly crushing people down. I understand that they are clear abusers, but attacking other witness (and not just) like that... I find it too coercive.
