Topic Of Discussion - Riot In Abuja Stadium

Two days ago, after the match between Nigeria and Ghana in Abuja Stadium, we had a lot of Nigerians pursuing out Ghanaian players out and also destroying everything in the stadium as I had read and watched in the news on YouTube. If you haven't watched this, I have a link for you to watch below.

Now that you have watched all that happened, I have some questions in thought, and if you do too, feel free to ask in the comment section.😁

Q1. If the rest of the world sees this news, what would they think of us?
Q2. What they did, is it proper for them to have done this?
Q3. would you be surprised to see a news update of over 1Billionaire spent on repairs in the stadium?
Q4. Who should we blame for this act, the fans who attacked or the government and why?
Q5. Do you think Nigeria would ever be removed from this indefinite ban placed by FIFA on World Cup and why?

Let the discussion begin....

The issue of unrest and violence is a world problem. Though this may not paint us in a good light in the global community, we have no excuse to result to violence.
In situations like this, the spirit of sportsmanship ought to take sway.

Repairs In the Stadium

I think it is a syndrome in Nigeria where a little renovation will gulp a large amount of money, probably the monies are used for self enrichment. I will not be surprised to see over #1 billion estimated as damages.
At least, the Abuja train bombing matter is said by the honorable minister of transport to be with over #2.4 trillion 🤣🤣. Nigeria we hail there.

Who To Blame

Well, the fans are to blame here. In sports, there is no permanent champion as a result, the fans should have swallowed the defeat, hook, line and sinker.
This dastardly act can cause FIFA to sanction our football team. Remember that a Zambian medical doctor working with FIFA died in the process. It is a national disgrace if you asked me.

I tell you.
After the attack, our most popular minister now dim it for to fix camera around the premises of the rail route plus repairs, all will cost a token of #2.4 trillion.

Tire?
Na we dey cause am self.
You may want to ask why?

  1. Political empathy. Many people do not participate in politics hence leaving our nation in the hands of the mediocre.

2.My own syndrome
The public idea that once an individual is ok, what happens to the next is none of his business.

  1. My father's house, our father land
May be because of our orientation, there is usually no patriotism. Our values have drifted to personal development rather than national development.
I have even heard some Nigerian thinkers say that an average Nigerian is corrupt.

Trust Nigerian politicians. They never pass up an opportunity to run the country to the ground because of greed. The question I often ask myself is at what point will they feel they've taken enough and try to give some back to the country. Despite the ridiculously high amount they demand for all projects they still use substandard materials.

Do you think Nigerian politicians thinks of the masses? Foolishness abounds in their hearts.
Until the populace begins to disregard money, politicians will keep messing with them.

Normally, like the rat, eat and blow breeze on whatever you are eating to cool it off, but here, our so-called leaders are securing their tomorrow because of fear of the unknown.
Every passing governor or public office holder have depleted the nation common treasury for self aggrandisement.

There is need for a rebirth of the Nigerian people and nation.

Until the populace begins to disregard money, politicians will keep messing with them.

This is very key in helping the country get back on its feet. However, there's another factor which is the fact that the poverty rate is increasing per day and with that comes desperation, so I doubt if there will come a time when the people will pick good representative over cheap money

You are right @blezyn.
Poverty has eaten so deep into our arrows that we find it difficult to know what to accept and what to desist from.
Everyone just want to earn a living. As a result, to fully purge this space from the awry political insincerity, there may be need for an intervention.

I think that's one strategy the government is using to win. The more desperate the people are, the more willing they are to accept crumbs.

there may be need for an intervention.

This is a was case I would see.. Nigeria constituting nuisance even in our very own country that's bad...

  • The first is that they would that Nigeria as a tout.
  • Actually, it's not a proper the to do because it's a game either you loose or you win .. and funny enough their loose is not just today so why fight??
  • I can never be surprised because I know it's what Nigeria can lie about. Just a way to steal funds again..
  • Well I can't say the government because it's not the govt that sent them to fight.. fighting is not the solution to the matter they should have let piece reign.
  • They surely will be removed tho.. that's not a big thing to me in this Nigeria and again it's just FIFA and it's just a ban and not a life ban so it could be reverted at any money.

Lol that's the truth 😅😂. Nigerians would be seen as hooligans. I could not believe when I first heard that happened.

Actually, it's not a proper the to do because it's a game either you loose or you win .. and funny enough their loose is not just today so why fight?

Exactly that's how games should be played. It's for fun.

I can never be surprised because I know it's what Nigeria can lie about. Just a way to steal funds again..

This one na norms my guy. Those politicians no go change.

Well I can't say the government because it's not the govt that sent them to fight.. fighting is not the solution to the matter they should have let piece reign.

Yeah the fans are to be blame but if we had a good government in the first place. This would have not happened. They might have done it out of frustration by the government.

It can even be planned by some people in the government so they can find way to extort money from people.

They surely will be removed tho..

If you say so, it keeps me thinking, why haven't they removed India to be playing in World Cups football? 🤔🤔🤔

You know, I thought of this too. Nothing comes as a surprise when the government is involved. You know some say Will Smith's slap was planned because people had lost interest in the Oscars.

Everything that happened in that stadium could have been planned by a government official. You remember what started the looting and ultimately the unfortunate end of that Endsars protest was influenced by government officials.

With the hope that Nigeria gets better, we as individuals definitely has a role to play in achieving that.

Q1. If the rest of the world sees this news, what would they think of us?
I am sure the rest of the world will be like 'freaking black people' as usual to their rugged lifestyle.

Q2. What they did, is it proper for them to have done this?
Even a normal human being will know that it is improper. It cost us representation as a country, I mean because of this incident, the Abuja stadium was banned by FIFA.

Q3. would you be surprised to see a news update of over 1Billionaire spent on repairs in the stadium?
As we dey so, I won't be surprised, since they can budget such amount for just lie detector vision glasses for NDLEA, 1 billion is even too small, trust me.

Q4. Who should we blame for this act, the fans who attacked or the government and why?
Nigerians are tired and frustrated with the happenings in this country, yes their actions are so wrong and unjustifiable but I think they just find means to pour out their anger on the government.

Q5. Do you think Nigeria would ever be removed from this indefinite ban placed by FIFA on World Cup and why?
This is a huge one, I think it will take a lot of time and convincing and more effort by proving that security is paramount. It's indefinite not definite.

The action is really uncalled for. I mean must we display our weakness for the whole world to see?

Pour out the anger to the Government is good but then, will it yield any meaningful result? If our government always give listening ear to the people and take action as well, most things wouldn't be going wrong like it is now. Nigerians are frustrated like you said and most of us don't care anymore.

Like make all of us join hands spoil the country nah💁... that's what the the display is like.

It's well shaa

Very well, this shows that we do not have enough crowd control security measures..even when we get national security..and the stadium dey Nigeria.🤣

It's funny how people who are considered adults don't understand the consequences of their actions. Getting worked up over a lost match is the least of our problems, why didn't they storm aso rock and demand an answer from the president regarding the state of the country ATM. It's just stupid behaviour.

Q1. If the rest of the world sees this news, what would they think of us?
The rest of the world already sees Nigeria as a country full of fraudsters, I'm sure this would help them to add violent and insensible to the list of things they don't like about Nigerian

Q2. What they did, is it proper for them to have done this?

It's the most improper childish behaviour I've seen in a while. How do you justify attacking visitors who came to play in your country because they won the match?

Q3. would you be surprised to see a news update of over 1Billionaire spent on repairs in the stadium?
Nothing is surprising when it comes to funds in this country, if they even say it's 60billion I still won't be surprised.

Q4. Who should we blame for this act, the fans who attacked or the government and why?
The government can't be held responsible for everything, we as individuals should be able to use our common sense. The fans are to blame, they made that decision without any influence from the government.

Q5. Do you think Nigeria would ever be removed from this indefinite ban placed by FIFA on World Cup and why?

I don't know a lot about football but I think they will let them play eventually. They may have to pay a fine or miss some games but eventually, they should let them play.

The whole scenario is funny really.

The rest of the world already sees Nigeria as a country full of fraudsters, I'm sure this would help them to add violent and insensible to the list of things they don't like about Nigerian

This was what got me really cracking up 😅😂. Violent and insensible.. Though I don't like the fact that our image are being damaged.

The government can't be held responsible for everything, we as individuals should be able to use our common sense. The fans are to blame, they made that decision without any influence from the government.

Yeah true, common sense left the group chat when a large group of people decided to make this act.

Yeah true, common sense left the group chat when a large group of people decided to make this act.

The painful thing is that it doesn't end here, come election corrupt politicians only need to distribute 2k for them to be voted back in and we constantly complain about how bad the country gets every day.

Honestly, no situation justifies violence and destruction of valuables, and even the loss of a life, of someone who's not even Nigerian. But our country is really messed up.

You know the fans never collectively decide on going the path of vandalism, but it's psychology, once a persons thought is translated into actions, others with similar grievances just quickly adopt the violent route. It's the same psychology that played out during the tollgate incidence, Port Harcourt where I stay that wasn't really directly linked to the protest, but youths received the ripple effect of the dark psychological state especially when they share the same sentiment, and opted for violence.

They almost killed me and others in a bus, we were neither the government nor policy makers, but violence is just ruthless and nothing, can ever justify it.

You know the fans never collectively decide on going the path of vandalism, but it's psychology, once a person's thought is translated into actions, others with similar grievances just quickly adopt the violent route.

This is indeed true. It's like the herd mentality, it doesn't take so much. Once they see a person move in that direction, others tend to follow without allowing room for logical reasoning.

Just like that endsars period, imagine them attacking people that were meant to be protected. When they were vandalizing and looting shops of the ordinary man, I wondered if they thought that would affect the government. I know some stores that have still not recovered from what happened back then and it took just one person to start it, others just followed suit.

If the rest of the world sees this news, what would they think of us?

With this video/news,we have already painted a bad picture international, admist the fact that Nigerians have become a yardstick for measuring cyber crime(Nigerian prince)....we have actually made it worse now in the world of football.

Football is a worldwide sport and has the highest audience so this new has made FIFA and the world realize that Nigerians do not have what it takes to hold an international match;we might also get stereotyped for violence if this continues.

What they did, is it proper for them to have done this?

Absolutely not, sometimes we do things forgetting that we're like samples representing a population.

Yes,Nigerian youths have a zeal for the world cup but that doesn't mean we chase Ghana out of the stadium because they qualified due to the Away game rules

It is totally immature, this kind of energy should have been focused in getting the super eagles to win the black stars instead.

would you be surprised to see a news update of over 1Billionaire spent on repairs in the stadium?

I wouldn't be surprised because they destroyed virtually everything in the stadium,it wouldn't surprise me if they budget something higher because in projects like this(if it gets repaired)everyone wants a piece of the national cake

Well it's either they budget a lot of money or they budget a billion naira and do a shabby job.

Who should we blame for this act, the fans who attacked or the government and why?

We can not always keep blaming the govt, vandalism was caused by the fans, the only thing the govt should have done was to control the situation before it escalated like it did.

Why?

Sports is entertainment and shouldn't be taken too far, it's like an actor taking the role he plays too far....We cannot always have things go our way everytime.

Since 2006,Nigeria has always qualified for the world cup,so even if we don't this one time, there's always next season....we should prepare ahead of that and not bring a stadium down

Do you think Nigeria would ever be removed from this indefinite ban placed by FIFA on World Cup and why?

It would be difficult but it's not impossible,if we can prove to them by rebuilding the stadium and ensuring the security of players around the stadium

Moreso,Nigeria wasn't banned from the World Cup,only our stadium at Abuja was banned for international matches,so I believe if we can make the facility better and ensure security by placing enough well-trained security personnel in and around the stadium, the ban might be lifted.

I'm giving you permission to tag me

That would be all

Q1. If the rest of the world sees this news, what would they think of us?

Q5. Do you think Nigeria would ever be removed from this indefinite ban placed by FIFA on World Cup and why?

The truth remains that Nigeria is one of the worst country by reputation, globally. More persons have died recently in Nigeria that in most warring countries. Some persons abroad even believe there's a serious war down here, and it's not far from the truth. So, the world can think of us as they want, and we cannot defend our stance any further.

For the properness of what the fans did, you know that there's no joy in Nigeria, people are just looking for the slightest opportunity to express their anger. Its raging within them. But there's no way we can support violence, it's not justified in anyway.

But Nigerian politicians as opportunists will use this event to steal money. The way they call billions now, there's no respect for money again.

The actions by the fans after the match was directly as result of the failure of the players to win, as that was the only thing that would have gave the average Nigerian there little joy. After scaling the fence to see your country win, you had to embrace their failure. It's not nice na! But, actually, that anger is greatly hinged on more social and political issues than it is on the match, the neglect, the insecurity, the poverty and all other issues an average Nigerian had to deal with daily is really frustrating. If you've noticed, skit makers are becoming plenty, because they are the only alcohol we can leave by to temporarily forget our sorrows, and most Nigerians endulge in lengthy hours of skit viewing because they are frustrated.

FIFA will definitely judge the situation and decide on the best line of action for the Nigerian football team. But it would be unfair to place Nigeria on an indefinite ban. Unless, the ban is on the use of Nigeria FIFA certified facilities for FIFA events. However, we wait on FIFA.

For the properness of what the fans did, you know that there's no joy in Nigeria, people are just looking for the slightest opportunity to express their anger. Its raging within them. But there's no way we can support violence, it's not justified in anyway.

You are right on this but that does not still justify their actions.

But Nigerian politicians as opportunists will use this event to steal money. The way they call billions now, there's no respect for money again.

It's becoming a norm, it's their way and I won't be surprised if that happens

Hmmmmm

Nigerian my country, it is well with with us oo.

Q1. If the rest of the world sees this news, what would they think of us?

They will reaffirm their belief that Nigeria is underdeveloped.

Q2. What they did, is it proper for them to have done this?

Not atall.

Q3. would you be surprised to see a news update of over 1Billionaire spent on repairs in the stadium?

I won't be surprised...it's an avenue for looting!

Q4. Who should we blame for this act, the fans who attacked or the government and why?

Both the fans and the government: the fans acted unruly without the spirit of sportsmanship, the government have failed to provide security to Nigerians.

Q5. Do you think Nigeria would ever be removed from this indefinite ban placed by FIFA on World Cup and why?

Yes, the ban is that Nigeria won't use MKO Abiola stadium for international matches.
It will be lifted in due time I think.

Q1. If the rest of the world sees this news, what would they think of us?

Not even if, cos they'd all have seen it already. Now, this just continues to portray our country as an unsafe place, basically. And now some racists who has tagged us as animals...wont this justify 'em?

Q2. What they did, is it proper for them to have done this?

Of course not, its a game someone gotta lose and the other, win..ot draw maybe. So why are they worked up?

Q3. would you be surprised to see a news update of over 1Billionaire spent on repairs in the stadium?

Normal, I am 100% expecting it already. Many sinzus go cash out 😂. Really, a billion aint enough. You know what, they will release the amount in dollars so that we may not be angry about it. 😂....except if you are saying $1billion.😂

Q4. Who should we blame for this act, the fans who attacked or the government and why?

Is this government? No its not. It is the fans that are at fault, wee we could add the security system too.
Uhm, i think I see the role of governemt here, the state of lawlessness in our country....where criminals ate not convicted.

Q5. Do you think Nigeria would ever be removed from this indefinite ban placed by FIFA on World Cup and why?

Wo, make the ban reach like 10 years make we rest from World Cup atleast 😂. Instead of just marking attendance every 4 years..like politicians...or are Super Eagles politicians?🙄🤔😤

I feel the country is messing with the citizens mental health and qualification to the world cup would have been something for the citizen to brag on but then the country can't even provide that and feels like nothing is working out in this country.
That triggered the destruction of property but then that was not proper should have been prevented.

The rest of the world seeing this would never want to associate with Nigerians for this violence is never the way and should never be.

Nigeria government and embezzlement, they will always find a way to embezzle and this scenario just gave them a path or should I say opportunity to embezzle money.
So if I hear 100 billion spent on repair of the stadium...i'm not caught unaware in saw this coming.

The fans of course they allowed there emotions to get the bad side of them.
Yeah we all are pained but do we because of that destroy our televisions at home.
I feel because most people know they won't be the one repairing they felt destroying it as way to punish the government over what they have been through so far.

Removed from the ban?
Can't say but let see how it goes because fifa can be very strict sometimes .

If the rest of the world sees this news, what would they think of us?

I think that most countries already have a negative perception of us in terms of behavior and this video only goes further to illustrate that idea... plus, they will just think that we are sore losers, which is not far from the truth. On the other hand though, some will understand that it goes beyond just football... Crowd behavior like this is hardly ever unprovoked and knowing that can lead them to wonder what the root of the problem is, but also, most people know that we are suffering from bad governance, especially in light of the #EndSARZ protest that later led to the rising of other issues within the country.

What they did, is it proper for them to have done this?

It wasn't the nicest scene to watch, but in my opinion, these things will always happen when the masses are not satisfied with government... This wasn't the first match we lost in our history, neither was it the first time we were failing to qualify for the world cup... Inasmuch as it wasn't proper to destroy our own facility, it is sometimes necessary for your oppressor to beware of your disapproval of his oppression, so i see how this can happen, and it might happen again if things continue like this or worsen

They should never have attacked the opposing supporters though, that was completely out of place.

would you be surprised to see a news update of over 1Billionaire spent on repairs in the stadium?

I would be surprised if I don't see that or more... I'll be a bit disappointed too :)

Who should we blame for this act, the fans who attacked or the government and why?

The government is to blame because this was only a product of their neglection of the voice of the people... They now understand that you cannot distract the people from this elephant in the room. The people are also to blame because we are all responsible for our own actions.

Do you think Nigeria would ever be removed from this indefinite ban placed by FIFA on World Cup and why?

They will be removed after a while, but since they(FIFA) will get the information that it was not just about football but more about bad governance, they will only be incline to lift the ban when they feel like Nigeria is in a better political state. And even with that, we will likely have a lot of sanctions to contend with by then.

Q1. If the rest of the world sees this news, what would they think of us?

Nothing new. This will further compound the negative views they have of us

Q2. What they did, is it proper for them to have done this?

It isn't. What was even the point? At whose detriment? I feel second-hand embarrassment

Q3. would you be surprised to see a news update of over 1Billionaire spent on repairs in the stadium?

Somebody has to make money off this so the repair budget would definitely be inflated. It's no surprise

Q4. Who should we blame for this act, the fans who attacked or the government and why?

The fans who did it

Q5. Do you think Nigeria would ever be removed from this indefinite ban placed by FIFA on World Cup and why?

That one no concern me.

If this match was held in Lagos, Bubu might not make it out of the stadium in one piece😂.

This video, in a way, depicts the situation of the country. Lawlessness, disunity, chaos, just name it. The world already has a bad perspective of us, that's common knowledge, this is just another instance to them.

The violence is not justified, violence is never justified. This whole situation is just a picture of the masses' reaction to the actions and inactions of the government. It isn't just about the match. Already, we remember Bubu has been recognized as "bad luck" to the Super eagles. An average Nigerian in that stadium was angry already, they only needed someone to initiate attack. Just as @zestimony said, it's just psychology. But of course, the effect helps no one.

Q3. would you be surprised to see a news update of over 1Billionaire spent on repairs in the stadium?

Ever since the times snake, dragons and what else started stealing money from public offices in this country, I've lost my ability to be surprised at anything happening in Nigeria 😂😂. How much did they spend making the logo of that airport project they cancelled that year, remind me please 😂.

Laidis as we're catching cruise and trying to make something of ourselves, according to Businessday.ng, we owe approximately 200k each on national debt😹
This country is one big joke.

I know this shit happened many days ago but it is so surreal that if things had happened slightly differently, I would have been in that stadium or maybe would have been on the train that got attacked.

Q1. If the rest of the world sees this news, what would they think of us?

The world already knows Nigeria is in the shitter. I mean, look at the guy that's our president.

Q2. What they did, is it proper for them to have done this?

LoL Nope

Q3. would you be surprised to see a news update of over 1Billionaire spent on repairs in the stadium?

Last time it was Dangote that fixed it. Honestly, I won't be surprised but I don't care.

Q4. Who should we blame for this act, the fans who attacked or the government and why?

The fans. Let's call it as it is. The fans acted like idiots.

Q5. Do you think Nigeria would ever be removed from this indefinite ban placed by FIFA on World Cup and why?

Is it Nigeria or the stadium that was banned?
