~ A Splatts Family Trip to Newport, OR ~
It’s been a tough year and a half financially. We haven’t gone anywhere for any type of family vacation. We typically take one vacation a year that lasts about a week. The money we would have for vacation is going to something way more important, my Son’s scoliosis treatment. Which, by the way, is going great!! Mama Splatts loves the beach and is always wanting to go. So we got together with Mama Splatts’ Sister, her Husband and kids and rented a beach house in Newport, OR for a couple days. Splitting the cost of renting the house helped big time!! I had to get Mama to the beach!!

Ok, so the house wasn’t right on the beach. It was a whole entire block or two away. A couple minute walk and you were on the beach. It had a nice little deck out front with a pretty dang good view.

Once we got our stuff unpacked we wondered down to the beach. Looking around I saw a whole lotta beach and very few people around. Perfect!!

Time to kick them shoes off and dig those toes into the sand.

I’m telling you, we couldn’t ask for better weather. I swear any time we hit the Oregon coast it’s overcast and cloudy most of the time. Not this time!! We had full sun, a slight sea breeze and clear skies!

The kids had me do some weird thing with my phone camera and take a family photo… What the???

Alright let’s take a “normal” family selfie… is it considered a selfie if there are multiple people in the photo??

Well that’s about as “normal” as it gets with the Splatts family. Them kids crack me up!!
We spent the first evening wondering along the beach finding shells and agates. Remnants of dead crab littered the shore line. An occasional washed up jelly fish was picked up and tossed around. SLAP! right in the back of the neck!! That daughter of mine if outta control.

In search of some tide pools, we cruised down towards an outcropping of rocks. Look at that!! He found the men’s restroom.

The ladies stayed down low looking for little critters

While the boy took off climbing to the top

Looking down in the cracks in the rocks I could see little crabs tucked away. Their pinchers crossed in front of their faces acting as a shield. I was able to get one to come out of hiding for a little photo shoot

This little guy has some really cool colors and markings

The clouds came in just in time for sunset. So like most people, I took about a billion photos looking off into the Pacific Ocean.

Ok, one more sunset photo as we left the beach and headed to the house to get some dinner going

How about a few more from the deck…

The next day we took a little drive down to the tallest Lighthouse in Oregon. The Yaquina Head Lighthouse stands 93 feet tall and was first lit back in 1873

There is a set of stairs that takes you down to the rocky cove.

Out in the water, sea lions were bobbing around in the waves. Then we realized there was a whole bunch of them laid out on the rocks sunbathing.

You don’t realize it when you are wondering up and down the beach but we put on some miles in the couple of days we were here. Question… Do I get double the miles for packing this 14 year old around?

It was a short trip but it was just the right medicine the Splatts family needed. Especially Mama Splatts…

I mentioned to Mama Splatts that I don’t want to be getting home at midnight. We have a 6 hour drive ahead of us. Well we made it home around 10:30 pm… so I guess we did make it home before midnight.
Even though the trip was short and the 6 hr drive there and back seamed like a waste… it was definitely worth it. Hopefully next time we head to the coast we can spend a whole week relaxing as a family and enjoying each others company.

Hello mr. crab! :P
next time, come visit maui! 😁🤙🌺🌺🌺
We will get there someday… My wife and I went to the Bahamas years ago. The warm water and white sandy beaches were really nice 😉
It has be about 15 years since I was last on the Oregon coast. Maybe more. I know I've been to Yaquina Head and a couple other lighthouses before. Maybe it's time for another trip soon.
We had a great time a couple years back. Took our camp trailer and stayed in seaside for a few days then went up to long beach for a few days. I need to sell this small camper and get a little bigger one. It’s tight for the 4 of us.
I may seriously be interested in buying your old trailer if the size is right and the price is low enough. Is it a tent trailer?
It’s a 21 foot 5th wheel with no slide outs. Gross weight fully loaded is 8,250lbs. It’s a 2007 artic fox 21-5R
Alas, not something I can use. Now is definitely the right time to sell used trailers though. The market seems pretty hot.
For sure!! I need to get my butt in gear and clean this thing up. I picked it up at an auction about 4 years ago for $2,500. It was like it was never used. It’s still in great shape and I could probably get rid of it quick for $5k.
Quality family time, good for you. With all that you and the family have gone through over the past year or so, a vacation was well deserved. It looks as though you had a good time even if it was a short one.
Your Daughter sounds like a real character. How did that jelly fish feel on the back of your neck, funny stuff.
It's great to hear that your son is doing so well, next year he'll be giving you the piggy back ride. What you should do is put on 50 pounds in the interim and give that new back of his a real test.
When we first got married we spent 7 weeks traveling cross-country. We made it to Oregon and the one thing that has stuck in my mind since was just how large everything was. the trees and leaves they sported were enormous.
Great family post with many fabulous pictures including that picture where your arm looks to be about a couple of yards long.
Enjoy your weekend buddy.
Hold up!! I’m trying to drop a few pounds and you are telling me to stack on 50?!? I’m not sure if you should be my life coach anymore. 😂😂
She is definitely the squirrelly one out of the group. Must get it from her mom 😜😜
I wanna take the kids to the Olympic peninsula to the rain forest. It’s just something I remember doing as a kid. Banana slugs as long as your forearm. I would imagine one of those would end up on the side of my face. 😂😂
